Fax Machine

Here's an odd little jam from Newcastle's Fax Machine. "1981" feels like a number of songs that have been spliced together to make one jarring, bi-polar, yet propulsive electro-pop tune. Check it out below. Soon to be available from Transparent.

I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl

Here's the latest jam from Wavves, "I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl," from the "Life Sux" EP due in September from Ghost Ramp.

And honestly, who doesn't wanna meet Dave Grohl? I'll bet he's fun as hell.

Don't Be Afraid of The Dark

Any reservations you may have about seeing the Guillermo Del Toro produced, Troy Nixey directed "Don't Be Afraid of The Dark" due to one Katie Holmes' involvement can be cast aside. It's a very effective creepy little movie. A gothic bedtime tale. Little monsters terrify and try to eat a little girl because they like the way little kids' teeth taste. Isn't that enough for you? Oh, and Holmes doesn't fuck it up. And Guy Pearce is in the thing. Remember him? He's cool.

And check out the bad ass painting that basically sums up the movie below. I plan to blow up a copy to eventually hang in some 4 year old's bedroom...just because that would be awesome.

Raleigh Moncrief

California singer/songwriter/producer Raleigh Moncrief will be releasing his debut LP, "Watered Lawn" on October 25th from Anticon. It's an electronics-infused, psychedelic pop joyride. Check out the first single "I Just Saw" below.

I Just Saw by raleigh moncrief

Grave Babies

Grave Babies hail from Seattle, and make noisy garage goth jams for the horror set. Warbly, tinny guitars, freaked out synth noises, and thudding drums collide to make a potent, aural cocktail of doom and gloom. Check out "Pleasures" below and get the 7" from Hardly Art. Here's what they had to say about it:

"A searing goth platter from Seattle, WA. Two brand new, blown-out tracks of dark pop brilliance on a first pressing of 500 on clear vinyl. Put it on headphones and listen to blood pour out of your ears."

Awesome.

Gem Club

Check out these hushed, pretty pop tunes from Gem Club. Their LP, "Breakers," is due out from Hardly Art in September. Sleepy time jams...

The Baby

We love a lot of stuff here at Heaven Is An Incubator. And, when we're not listening and talking music, or reading comics, or dissecting toddlers in our secret, underground evil lair, we're watching crazy B-movies and drive-in fair from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Which brings us to "The Baby," a heartwarming tale from 1973 about a fucked up family and their 21 year old baby...a grown man who makes baby noise and poops himself. I'll stop there and let your mind work out the rest. All that i want to add is that for a film that's rated PG, it's very, very icky and gross.

And that's why we love it and promote it fully.

WU LYF

WU LYF's debut LP, "Go Tell Fire To The Mountain," is due out in the next couple of weeks. Seeing as the band is self releasing it, i can't put an exact date on the vinyl availability, but just know that it's soon. And that's a good thing. I honestly can't tell you much about World Unite Lucifer Youth Foundation, as they've essentially taken a fuck you and your mother attitude with any kind of press or adulation...so naturally we're all eating this up...but i can assure you, it still tastes good. Think of early Modest Mouse with twice the reverb and a whole lot of English cigarettes. Listen to an early mix of album closer, "Heavy Pop," below.

Marina and The Diamonds

Check out this cool, kinda Balearic re-working of Marina and The Diamonds' "Radioactive" by How To Dress Well. The single from the Welsh/Greek siren is out in October from 679 Artists. Listen below.

Marina And The Diamonds - Radioactive [How To Dress Well Rework] by 679artists

Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey is starting to get a ton of buzz, thanks in part to her awesome, mellow Nancy Sinatra-ish "Video Games," and the sentimental, nostalgia-inducing video that accompanies it. We will finally see a physical release for "Video Games" in 7" form from Stranger Records in October. You can pre-order here.

Here's the updated, official version of the "Video Games" video. Apparently there were some uncleared clips used the first time around.

Still totally awesome though.

Main Attrakionz

"808's & Dark Grapes II" from Oakland's Main Attrakionz, a tripped-out, lo-fi hip hop opus that goes back and forth between making you nod your head to the beat, to taking that head and holding it underwater while the sounds swirl around you. Something like that. At any rate, it's fucking awesome. Download the whole album for free right here. And, listen to "Perfect Skies" below.

Matt & Kim & Andrew WK & Soulja Boy

Remember that "My Drive Thru" song from a couple of years ago that Pharrell, Santigold, and Julian Casablancas did for Converse? It was kind of stupid, but a lot of fun. Well, Converse is at it again, this time with a track called "I'm A Goner," by Matt & Kim, Andrew WK, and Soulja Boy. You can listen and download here.

Fright Night

Saw a sneak of the "Fright Night" remake tonight at the Alamo. And..........i actually liked it quite a bit. It's a fun little horror comedy. It's got David Tennant, McLovin, a Franco, and really, who would have thought that i'd like Colin Farrell?

No one, that's who.

Crazy Clown Time

Last year, filmmaker David Lynch released a couple of weird electronic pop songs. Now he's announced the follow up, this time in LP form. Look for "Crazy Clown Time" in November from Sunday Best Recordings and PIAS America. Karen O from Yeah Yeah Yeahs will appear on the tune called "Pinky's Dream."

Check out "Good Day Today" below.

Hip to Be Square

It was brought to my attention on Friday that Huey Lewis and The Motha-Fuckin' News will be performing in Austin in October at The Long Center. Needless to say, i may have peed my pants just a little bit. This isn't the first time a rumored Austin News performance has rattled my brain. May we all recall the SXSW 2010 incident involving a vicious viral joke about a Whole Foods rooftop free show. It didn't happen. And that was just cruel. This time around, i did some research, and Huey is indeed set to play on October 26th...but...tickets START at $91.00. Power of love my ass.

(I still want to go.)

Cat in The Brain

Ah, Italian horror. Even when it's bad, it's still an absolute pleasure to watch, and Dr. Lucio Fulci never disappoints. Take "Cat In The Brain," a tit and gore fest that will just make you happy. Check the quick review below:

Chas. Balun's Deep Red
"Chainsaw eviscerations, decapitations, piano-wire throat slashings, intestines being fed to ravenous pigs, eye-gougings, masses of T&A, graphic knifings, tongue-rippings...all and much more are present and correct. And I mean much more! FOUR STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Why haven't you watched this yet? Get it from Grindhouse Releasing.

RIP Jani Lane

Warrant front man Jani Lane dead at 47. No way.

The Present Moment

You like Gary Numan-inspired synth riffs? You like pulsing bass lines that make you reminisce about what the future was supposed to be like? You like tacos? (Of course you do. Everybody likes tacos, but that has nothing to do with this post.) The Present Moment are a goth-ish 80's inspired synth-child straight outta LA, and the "Loyal To A Fault" LP is due out in September from Mannequin and Desire Records. Go here to listen to "A New Day."

Maria Minerva

Not Not Fun keeps the warped synth jams a-comin' with the new LP from Estonia's Maria Minerva (Maria Juur), "Cabaret Cixous." It's a warbly, old school futuristic collection of slow motion synth ballads and summer jammy-jams. "A beautiful, bizarre record, full of the weird vision and hazed-out soulfulness that’s everything we love about music." Get it here, and listen to "These Days" below.

Preteen Zenith

Here's the first full song to be released by Preteen Zenith, the new project from Tim Delaughter (Tripping Daisy, Polyphonic Spree). "Breathe" is a fun track, starting out like an old psyche-folk jam and finally culminating with an uplifting hoorah you'd expect from a Delaughter tune. A physical release should be out soon from Good Records Recordings.
