October Horror Trailer - Opera

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Born in Blood

I've been listening to the American Gothic sounds of Kind Dude's dark folk, crunch, and psychobilly vibrations for a number of years now, and while much of the artist's work has a little bit of the devil in it, the folky ambiance of "Born in Blood" always felt the most Halloween.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

October Horror Trailer - Slumber Party Massacre 2

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Cry Little Sister (Theme from The Lost Boys)

For many, many years, "The Lost Boys" was my favorite movie, the perfect combination of horror, teen culture, and pop music.  I feel like i watched it once a weekend when i was a little kid, and i certainly listened to the soundtrack incessantly as well.  Revisiting it now, it's dated for sure, but it still rips.  Here's the film's them, "Cry Little Sister," from Gerard McMann, our Daily Jam.

Desert Sessions 11 & 12

I love Josh Homme's Desert Sessions series, and it's been a very long time since we last had one.  Yesterday, the artist dropped Volumes 11 and 12, this time around featuring another array collaborators like Billy Gibbons and Les Claypool.  Check out the video for Vol. 12's "Crucifier" below and get the LP here from Matador.

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Silver Shamrock

Here's the commercial jingle for the evil Silver Shamrock Corporation from "Halloween III: Season of the Witch."  Both of my boys absolutely love it.  Have fun getting it stuck in your head.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

The Bleak Engineers

Russian cold wave post punk duo The Bleak Engineers have a new album of dark, hip, and moody little synth numbers heading our way in the very near future.  For the time being, you can grab "New Frontiers" digitally here from Six Tonnes de Chair Records, with a vinyl release coming out us soon.  In the meantime, check out the album opening "Multidimensional Way (Deviant Version)" below.

Daily Jam (October Edition) - The Omen (Ave Satani)

From "The Director's Cut," one of my favorite album of the '00s, here's Fantomas's superb and splintering rendition of Jerry Goldsmith's theme from "The Omen."  Check it out, our Daily Jam.

Lorelle Meets The Obsolete remixed by Pye Corner Audio

Mexican psych band Lorelle Meets The Obsolete released their excellent album "De Facto" back in January, and now synth maestro Pye Corner Audio is remixing one of that album's standout tracks.  Check out the hypnotic and sprawling mix of "Unificado" below and get it here via Sonic Cathedral.

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Unreleased Hellraiser Theme

So originally, Clive Barker's "Hellraiser" film was supposed to feature a score from experimental electronic and industrial band Coil.  They recorded a theme and everything.  Ultimately the film went a different direction with Christopher Young's Gothic orchestra sound (which in hindsight was really the way to go), but it's fascinating to think of what could have been.  Check out Coil's unreleased "Hellraiser Theme" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Lullaby (Rosemary's Baby)

There are so many horror film scores that i love, but i always come back to Christopher Komeda's haunting soundtrack to "Rosemary's Baby."  So, let's listen to "Lullaby," the song from the film's opening credits, and our Daily Jam.

Destroyer

Dan Bejar's long running Destroyer project has a new album heading our way in January.  And if our first taste, the synth heavy "Crimson Tide," is any indication, we're in for the artist's idiosyncratic take on dance pop and new wave.  Check it out below and pre-order the "Have We Met" LP here from Merge.

Paint Thinner

Apparently not content to have already released one of my favorite records of the year, February's "The Sea of Pulp," noisy, alt-rock Detroit band Paint Thinner just dropped their second LP this year with the new "Hagioscope to the Heart" LP.  Crunchy riffs and noise abound.  Check out the instrumental track "Sue" below and get the record here.

Taleen Kali - #1 Crush

Here's a groovy little cover of one of my favorite songs from the '90s, LA artist Taleen Kali taking on Garbage's "#1 Crush."  The track features an assist from Kristin Kontrol (AKA Dee Dee from Dum Dum Girls) on the boards.  Check it out below and get it here.

October Horror Trailer - Madman

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Black No. 1 (Little Miss Scare-All)

I remember when i was 15, and a friend of mine was describing Type O Negative to me, he concluded with, "They just sound like Halloween dude."  And he was right.  Really it's hard to muster a more adequate description of the band's particular brand of dark and melodic Gothic metal.  So here's their most Halloween sounding song of all, "Black No. 1 (Little Miss Scare-All)," our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Dream Warriors

Hell yeah we're gonna listen to Dokken's "Dream Warriors!"  I'd post this even if it wasn't Halloween season.  Check it below, our Daily Jam.

October Horror Trailer - Cujo

Prince Innocence - Sharon Stone

Dreamy Toronto synth pop duo Prince Innocence released their "Blue Star" EP earlier this year and just dropped a new video for the sultry and elegant "Sharon Stone."  Check it out below.

Caroline Says

I caught Austin artist Caroline Says a couple of years ago and SXSW, and her blend of Americana and dreampop is just the kind of thing to wind down to on a Sunday that was hotter than it had any right to be.  Check out new track "Ohio River" below and get the new EP of the same name next month on Western Vinyl.

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Re-Animator Theme

So, is Richard Band's theme to "Re-Animator" a total and blatant ripoff of the "Psycho" theme?  Yes.  Yes it is.  There is no argument that you could make to prove otherwise because it's pretty damn obvious.  Does that mean we shouldn't listen to it?  Of course not.  So, here's the main theme from "Re-Animator," our Daily Jam.

October Horror Trailer - Hellbound: Hellraiser II

La Neve

La Neve is the solo project of Downtown Boys member Joey La Neve DeFrancesco, a project the skews far and wide from her other band's raucously political punk rock in favor of queer minded post disco and dance.  New album "The Vital Cord" is boogie-laden for sure and infectious in its bump and sway, party music for outcasts to revel to.  Check out "Stability" below and grab the album here from the artist.

The Bedroom Witch

Here's some gothy, minimalist, darkwave synth pop from the wonderfully named The Bedroom Witch.  The California artist's "Diaspora" album is out now via Psychic Eye.  Listen to the cold and smoky "Sea of Insects" below and get it here.

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Killer Klowns from Outer Space

We don't have enough pop music movie theme songs anymore.  The '80s were rife with them though, so here's The Dickies with their contribution to the movie "Killer Klowns from Outer Space," our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Dragula

Yeah, it's almost overly cartoonish and stupid, but i think i'd be doing everyone a disservice if i didn't include some kind of Rob Zombie song on my Halloween themed jams this month.  So, here's "Dragula," a song a like BECAUSE it's cartoonish and stupid, your Daily Jam.

October Horror Trailer - Fright Night

Jeff Rosenstock

Jeff Rosenstock, who put out one of my favorite albums last year with "Post-," just released a pay-what-you-want live album called "Thanks, Sorry!"  It's 29 tracks of punk-fueled alt-rock, and it's fantastic.  I have not been fortunate enough to catch Rosenstock live yet, so for the time being this will do.  Check out the live rendition of "TV Stars" below and download the whole thing here.

Jorge Elbrecht

The ever prolific Jorge Elbrecht has a new record heading our way in December.  And "Gloss Coma - 002" features guests like Sky Ferreira and Drab Majesty.  For the time being, check out the opening track, "A Mask in the Ash," a synthy, horror-laden little piece of death pop, and pre-order the record here.

October Horror Trailer - 10 to Midnight

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Suspiria

We did Thom Yorke's score for the remake yesterday, so it seems necessary to put up the original main theme to the original "Suspiria" from the legendary prog band Goblin.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Witch!  Witch!

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Volk

I know there's a lot of hemming and hawing about remakes and all that, but we all have to admit that sometimes they're good, if not great.  Hell, some ("The Thing," "The Fly") improve upon the original.  Anyway, i loved, loved, loved last year's "Suspiria" remake, and part of what made it great (not better) was Thom Yorke's eerie score.  Check out "Volk" below, our Daily Jam.

Je Suis France

Georgia's Je Suis France throw a lot of different styles and genres at the wall to see what sticks, bits of psych rock and prog and post punk and krautrock and no wave noise.  And amazingly it all does.  New album "Back to the Basics of Love" is out next month.  Check out the fuzzy, crunchy, alt-rock leaning "House Style" below and pre-order the record here from Ernest Jenning Record Co.

Malibu

Malibu is a French producer and ambient artist, and her debut EP, "One Life," is heading our way next month.  Check out the meditative, lifting, soaring, and cosmic "Tilting on Windmills" below and pre-order the record here from UNO NYC.

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Mad Monster Party

Sadly, i have never seen the 1967 animated TV program "Mad Monster Party" from Rankin/Bass Productions, the same folks who made that "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" show that gets re-aired every Christmas.  I need to remedy that because i love the music.  Check out the (almost Bond feeling) theme song by Maury Laws with vocals from Ethel Ennis below, our Daily Jam.

Destryur

I fall down one of these synth wave horror score rabbit holes at least a couple of times every year, and the Halloween season always seems to offer up so much to check out.  And so this morning i'm jamming to the pulsing, driving, retro sounds of Brooklyn's Destryur.  New album "Panic" is a mix of synth wave, hard rock, and techno, and hits all those marks for the season.  Check out the Dominick Martes assisted title track below and get the album here from the artist.

October Horror Trailer - Macabre

Just a little NSFW.
