New music from Broadcast!
James Cargill, the only remaining member of the band Broadcast, since Trish Keenan died last year, is supposed to be hard at work putting together an album featuring Keenan's last work before her untimely death. In the meantime, Broadcast has scored the upcoming film, "Berberian Sound Studio," an homage to 1970's Italian Giallo flicks. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Watch the cool opening credits sequence below featuring the song "The Equestrian Vortex." Look for the album in January from Warp.

Beak> - Mono
Portishead's Geoff Barrow has had a busy year with releases by his hip-hop outfit Quakers, a new release from his very Krauty Beak> project, and an album of Judge Dredd-inspired jams. And as if that's not enough, here's a new single from Beak>. "Mono" is a head bobbing, infectious piece of experimental pop, a departure from some of the band's more warped material. The single will be available from Invada in December. Listen below.

Peepholes
Minimal wave goes Gothic goes Caribbean goes jungle house goes world...or something like that. The UK's Peepholes are a solid mix of pulsing, unnerving groove. Stream their new LP, "The Overspill," below and pre-order from Upset The Rhythm.

Goat
If Led Zeppelin, Spaceman 3, Fela Kuti, and Funkadelic produced an offspring as the result of some freaky orgy, we'd get Sweden's Goat. Their debut "World Music" LP combines a number of styles and sounds to create a pretty unique psychedelic soundscape. It's music for harvesting souls to. Fuck yeah! Listen to "Goathead" below and look for the record from Rocket Recordings.

Horrid Red
We've touched on the excellent Horrid Red before, and the band just keeps upping the ante. Earlier this month, their second LP, "Nightly Wreathes," came out on Terrible Records. To describe the music therein, i'd say an almost unsettling implosion of fuzzy post-punk, noir krautrock. It's fantastic. Listen to "I'm Terribly Hurt" below and grab the record here.

Death Waltz
Halloween is just around the corner...our very favorite time of year. Candy, horror movies, slutty women, what's not to like? But we also dig on some horror movie scores, and UK label Death Waltz are putting out a crazy awesome series of horror soundtracks featuring unique art print covers. So far, soundtracks for Zombi 2, Prince of Darkness, Let The Right One In, and more have seen production, and we'll be getting even more in the near future. Awesome stuff. Check out their website and listen to a section from Zombi 2 below.

Here's a new jam from Chromatics on the forthcoming "After Dark 2" compilation from Italians Do It Better. "Looking For Love" is here, edited down into video form. Enjoy.

Vinyl Williams
Lionel Williams is Vinyl Williams, an LA psych-pop artist sifting through sonic textures to craft a groovy and smoky mix of precise, pounding Krautrock drums, echoed vocals, and goopy synth and guitar chords. You should totally get high to it. Listen to "Higher Worlds" below and look for the "Lemniscate" LP from No Pain In Pop next month.

The Black Keys & RZA
Here's another jam from the soundtrack to RZA's upcoming "The Man with the Iron Fists," this time around featuring the Wu-maestro and blues rock stompers The Black Keys. Watch the video for "The Baddest Man Alive" below. Blakroc lives!!!

Giorgio Moroder
Apparently legendary disco producer Giorgio Moroder has a soundcloud page. And it's loaded with tons of jams (many of which are quite rare). Awesome. Listen to "From Here To Eternity" below and then get your groove on here.

LA Vampires & Maria Minerva
LA Vampires (Amanda Brown from Pocahaunted) has put out several collaborative records over the last couple of years with everyone from Ital to Zola Jesus. It was only a matter of time before she got around to making a whole lot of awesome with Estonian Maria Minerva. Watch the video for "Seasons Change," a smooth and bouncy synth-jam from the upcoming "The Integration" LP on Not Not Fun.

The Man With The Iron Fists
If you didn't already know, Wu-Tang's RZA has directed a new film called "The Man With The Iron Fists." Why, after 20 years, this is the first kung fu flick made by a member of the Wu, we'll never know. Needless to say, it looks awesome, and the soundtrack's rad to boot. Listen to "Rivers of Blood" by The Wu-Tang Clan and Kool G Rap below. The record's due next week from Soul Temple.

Ty Segall covers The Velvet Underground
The Velvet Underground were arguably one of the best (at least the hippest) bands to ever influence everybody, and thus covers abound (see Beck's awesome take on The Velvet Underground and Nico). This time around, a bevy of San Francisco artists from Thee Oh Sees to White Fence to Ty Segall and more are on the attack thanks to Castle Face/Universal. Listen to Ty's take on "Femme Fatale" below and look for the album next month.

Empress Of
Here's a dreamy pop track from Brooklyn's Lorely Rodriguez, otherwise known as Empress Of. Listen to "Don't Tell Me" below...and float. No word yet on an album.

Philip Glass & Beck
I've mentioned the interesting Philip Glass remix album in the past, and it's a weird piece of music. That being said, the Beck rework of "73-78," a strange and eclectic mix of pieces of Glass music, interludes, and Beck's quiet vocals is about as wonderful an opus as i've ever enjoyed listening to. If you have 20 minutes to spare, take a listen below. It's fantastic.
Lower
Danish post punk band Lower are prepping a new 7" for release next month on 540 Records. The band's "Walk on Heads" EP was excellent piece of shouting and aggression, but new track "Someone's Got It In For Me" finds the band in much more slow burning kind of mood. Listen below.

Levek
Florida bedroom recording artist Levek (David Levesque) has a new LP out on Lefse Records. It's a wonderful mix of analog synth sounds, murky, washed out textures, and folky melodies. Listen to "French Lessons" below, a lovely jam that makes me think i should be sipping a fruity cocktail at a poolside lounge on an island paradise somewhere in the far corners of the Earth. Cling to that summer vibe for just a little while longer.

Scott Walker
Scott Walker began his career as a teeny-bopper under the name Scott Engel. He eventually joined the group The Walker Brothers crafting some excellent pop songs. From there, he forged into a solo career combining elements of several different genres, a crooner's voice, and many interpretations of Jaques Brel songs. Since the 70's, his work has been far more sporadic and experimental. His newest opus, "Bish Bosch," is due in December on 4AD. Watch the intense "trailer" for the record below. Wow.

Real Estate offshoot Ducktails (Matthew Mondanile) will be releasing new album "The Flower Lane" early next year from Domino. For now, feast your ears on the smooth, light, and airy title track.

The Twilight Sad & Com Truise
Here's Com Truise's take on "Sick" by Scotland's The Twilight Sad, taken from their upcoming remix album "No One Can Ever Know - The Remixes." It's gloomy, goopy disco. Listen below and look for the album from FatCat next month.

Congrats to Drew Brees!
Big props and kudos to Drew Brees for breaking Johnny Unitas' long standing record last night. Who Dat!
Mean Lady
Delaware's Mean Lady have a 7" coming out from Fat Possum next month. Listen to A-side "Bop Bop" below. It starts simply enough, a straight forward, folk-leaning indie-pop song that then gradually gets stranger with delays and echoes like the song's slowly being pulled into a saccharine black hole.
How to destroy angels
I would be remiss if i didn't post something about the new project from Trent Reznor, How to destroy angels. I was kinda obsessed with Nine Inch Nails as a teenager after "The Downward Spiral" came out (good lord, that was almost 19 years ago), so Reznor will always have a soft spot in my heart. Anyway, check out "Keep it together," from the upcoming "An omen" EP and download it below. Vocals are courtesy of Trent's wife Mariqueen Maandig.
The EP is due in November from Columbia.

Horseback and Locrian
It's chilly and gray outside (see awesome), so what better time to pair some droney, ambient doom metal with cloudy weather? The black-metal-meets-Americana vibe of North Carolina's Horseback swirls and echoes inside the ethereal drone and gloom of Chicago's Locrian. Hello Sunday morning. The bands' collaborative album "New Dominions" is due from Relapse next month. Listen to an album preview below.

Killer Mike - Reagan video
One of our favorite jams of the year, Killer Mike's excellent "Reagan," gets a fun, animated video. We love fun, animated videos! Check it out below.
Rangda
Rangda is the soundtrack to lost, western traveler making his way through the desert, stumbling upon various cults and harems of different Muslim sects, learning their cultures, and then teaching them about electric guitars and blues and rock & roll. Comprised of three musicians, Sir Richard Bishop of Sun City Girls (no surprise there), Ben Chasney of Six Organs of Admittance, and drummer Chris Corsano, the band revels in their sonic journeys into the middle east. Listen to "Majnun" below and look for the new "Formerly Extinct" LP on Drag City.

Deniro Farrar and Shady Blaze
Have i mentioned how much we love us some mixtapes around these parts? Because they continue to blow my mind every time. The latest from the cool and cold North Carolina rapper Deniro Farrar and Bay area experimenter Shady Blaze (of Main Attrakionz) have teamed to create some really floaty, mellow hip-hop jams. Listen to "Cold Blood" below featuring Haleek Maul, production from Ryan Hemsworth, and an awesome Goblin sample.
For the record, anything involving Goblin is, by definition, awesome.
Pay what you want for the album here.

Foxygen
Aside from having an excellent band name, the duo known as Foxygen are also readying their debut full-length LP on Jagjaguwar. "We Are The Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic" is due in January, but in the meantime, listen to first single, "Shuggie," a fun and bouncy piece of psychedelic pop below.
Cities Aviv & Star Slinger
Smooth Memphis rapper Cities Aviv gets some production assistance from hazy and choppy British producer Star Slinger on their new track "G A L L E R Y G U R L Z." Listen below, and be on the lookout for a new Cities Aviv mixtape in the near future.

Marching Church
Elias Bender Ronnenfelt, the young Danish wunderkind behind post-punk band Iceage and the stunted electro-weirdness of Var (formerly War) has yet another project to unleash upon the masses. Check out "Throughout The Borders" from Ronnenfelt's Marching Church, soon to be released on 7" from Posh Isolation.

Lymbyc Systym
"Symbolyst," the new LP from Arizona's Lymbyc Systym is a grand mix of orchestral synth-pop, an electro-heartbeat with lush symphonics. Listen to "Falling Together" below. It's like the score to an alternate ending of "Drive," where Ryan Gosling turns out to be a robot who disappears into deserts and mountains. Get the record from Western Vinyl.

Black Moth Super Rainbow
Always, always pumped when we hear a new one from Pittsburgh's resident electro-psyche weirdos Black Moth Super Rainbow. Listen to "Gangs in The Garden" below and try to stop yourself from doing the robot. I dare you. The group's new "Cobra Juicy" album is due out later this month from Rad Cult.
New Death Grips
Sacramento's noisy punk-rap outfit Death Grips have a new album for your ears (the 2nd one this year). "NO LOVE DEEP WEB" is available for free download here (the site was down earlier today, but just give it some time). In the meanwhile, listen to "No Love" below.
