Daily Jam - What a Wonderful World
See you guys on the other side. This is the energy i'm going to try to head into 2023 with. Listen to Louis Armstrong and "What a Wonderful World" below, our Daily Jam. Happy new year.
Favorite 20 Movies of 2022
Well, i waited as long as i could to write up my favorite movies of the year. Time will not allow me to view anymore, but that's okay i guess. I'm hoping to catch some things like The Fabelmans and Babylon sooner rather than later. Anyway, there's a lot of horror as per usual, a kids movie i did not expect to like nearly as much as i did, an extremely divisive "biopic," a hilarious "biopic," an episode from a Netflix anthology (cheating), and so much more. It's always hard to pick a favorite, but if you twisted my arm, it would probably be RRR. Now, i've been cleaning the house all day, which with two young boys after Christmas is the endeavor you'd expect it to be, so i'll just let the titles and posters speak for themselves. Check 'em out.
And there you go. Be sure to tune in next December for more lists.

The Lord + Petra Haden
Well here's a bitchin' collaboration i would never have thought of. "Devotional" is the new LP from The Lord, AKA Greg Anderson of Sunn O))), Goatwhore, and Southern Lord Records, and singer and violinist Petra Haden of That Dog and The Rentals fame. Haden provides lyric-less vocals over Anderson's drone and metal guitar tones to glorious, delirious, almost religious effect. Check out the album closing "The End of Absence" below and get the record here from Southern Lord.
Cola
Here's one i missed back in May. I knew that post-punk band Ought had broken up, but did not know that lead singer Tim Darcy was back with a new group called Cola. While i still prefer Darcy's solo work to either of his full-time projects, "Deep in View" has a real cool and steady post punk vibe to it. Check out "Blank Curtain" below, and get the LP here from Fire Talk.
Jairus Sharif
Calgary artist Jairus Sharif makes a hip, spacey, and experimental mix of jazz, hip-hop, and ambient music that feels like it's injected straight into your aura. Wonderfully deep stuff that will stick with you for weeks at a time. Check out the cosmic "9-5 Silver" below and download the "Water & Tools" album here from Telephone Explosion Records (the vinyl is already gone).
Badge Époque Ensemble
Doing that thing where i come across a ton of great music i missed earlier in the year as i read different folks' year-end favorites. One of those is the September release from Badge Époque Ensemble. "Clouds of Joy" is wonderful and grooving mix of jazz, psych, funk, soul, prog, and more. Check out the James Baley assisted "Zodiac" below and get the LP here from Telephone Explosion Records.
Daily Jam - The Crystal Ship
Full disclosure: i've been on vacation the last two weeks. It's been wonderful, the creeping dread of knowing i have to go back in a few days is hindering my enjoyment. It's a pickle. Anyway, here's The Doors with "The Crystal Ship," our Daily Jam.

Man...or Astro-Man?
I had not thought about space surf rock band Man...or Astro-Man? in a long time. Thankfully that was remedied by my friend Shawn posting about the band's latest release, "Distant Pulsar." Check out the track below, get the double 7" record here from Chunklet Industries, and read more of Shawn's pop culture recommendations and exploits here.
Daily Jam - Conquest
Only a couple days left until 2023. Weird. Here's The White Stripes covering a song made famous by Patti Page in the 1950s. Check out "Conquest" below, our Daily Jam.

Rupert Lally
Here's some new synth wave from Rupert Lally. The artist dropped new cassette "Hacker" a couple days before Christmas, and while the tape is already sold out, you can download the album here from Spun Out of Control. In the meanwhile, listen to the album opening "Pen Test" below.

Loose Koozies w/ Kelly Jean Caldwell
Here's a little psych-tinged country music from Detroit's Loose Koozies featuring a vocal assist from Kelly Jean Caldwell. "I Won't Be Leaving Here (Unless It's with You)" sounds like it sprang from some honky-tonk that only exists in rose-tinted memories. Check it out below and download it here.

Daily Jam - Music to Watch Girls By
And just like that, Christmas is done. Are you exhausted? I know i am. But now, let's cruise through this last week of the year, starting with some jazzy, instrumental pop from The Bob Crewe Generation. Listen to "Music to Watch Girls By" below, our Daily Jam.

Death Hags
Here's some new darkwave/death rock from LA artist Death Hags with some perfect Christmas vibes. Check out "Exit to Winter Planet" below and get the new "Supersonic Noel" EP here.
Daily Jam - Christmas at the Zoo
So very, very tired. Up until 2am wrapping presents. Up at 6:30am because of excited, giddy children. Making Christmas dinner. Cleaning up after Christmas dinner. I'm about to pass out. Anyway, here's The Flaming Lips and "Christmas at the Zoo," our Daily Jam. Merry Christmas!

††† (Crosses) Cover George Michael
Want to hear ††† (Crosses), the duo of Deftones main man Chino Moreno and Shaun Lopez, cover George Michael? Of course you do. In what appears to be an annual tradition, the pair have offered up a cover tune for our listening perusal for the Christmas season. Last year's was the Q Lazarus classic "Goodbye Horses," and for 2022 we've got George Michael and "One More Try." And it's pretty damn enjoyable. Check it out below.
Daily Jam - Help!
Like i do every year, i've waited until the last possible second to wrap a million Christmas presents. I put it off all week, so today i will suffer for it. Anyway, here's folk singer Mary McCaslin and her cover of The Beatles' "Help!" Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

TURQUOISEDEATH
Here's some weird music from an artist called TURQUOISEDEATH. It's kind of alt-rock, kind of trip-hop, kind of electronic, and kind of all sorts of other stuff. And it grooves. Check out "Vision of Love" below and get the new "Phantom World" album here from Full Metal Records.
Daily Jam - Time
Kinda wild that probably my favorite album of the last 20 years is one that came out before i was born. It really was just a right time/right place moment when i heard Dennis Wilson's "Pacific Ocean Blue" for the first time. I've been a devotee ever since. Here's a track from it. Listen to "Time" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - There's Nowhere You Can Hide
Was running around and doing a few pre-Christmas errands, and the temperature dropped over 30 degrees while were out. Crazy. Anyway, here's some spacey, late '90s alt-rock coming straight at your face. Check out Blinker the Star and "There's Nowhere You Can Hide" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Welcome to Death Row
Here's some weird music from French experimental composer and synth artist Bernard Szajner. Listen to "Welcome to Death Row" below, our Daily Jam.

Your Old Droog
New York rapper Your Old Droog just dropped a new EP called "The Shining." Drawing some inspiration from the film, the album is 20 minutes of spooky, off-kilter hip-hop. Check out the album closing "The Hedge Maze" below, download the whole thing here, and dig on that Shelly Duvall album art above.
Daily Jam - Reptile
I was pretty obsessed with Nine Inch Nails' "The Downward Spiral" when i was a teenager. It dropped right at that age when you make attachments to art and music that can last for the rest of your life (15). Anyway, it's almost 29 years later, and i still think it's a perfect album, and i still go back to it all the time. Here's "Reptile," our Daily Jam.
