Noble Rot

Ennio Morricone's body of work is so vast that there are a significant amount of films i've never seen (and most likely will never get a chance to see) that he provided the scores to.  So i don't know the original context in which the beautiful and dreamlike "Ninna Nanna Per Adulteri" played, what kind of scene it underscored.  But i think that's okay because it's a wonderful piece of music all on its own.  Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Allison Lorenzen & Midwife Cover Bush

Allison Lorenzen is a Denver based artist whose sound is a lulling mix of shoegaze, dreampop, and slowcore alt-rock.  Midwife is also a Denver based artist whose sound rides the same kind of vibes, but with some drone thrown in for good measure.  Together, they cover Bush apparently.  And i'll be damned if it isn't excellent.  Check out the duo's take on "Glycerine" below and download it here.

The Lost Days

Secret Machines

Next month sees the release of "The Moth, The Lizard, and The Secret Machines," the latest from New York based space rock band Secret Machines.  Work on the record actually began way back in 2010, but was shelved for awhile after the death of bandmate/brother Benjamin Curtis.  And now, it finally sees its completion.  Check out "The Finalizer" below and pre-order the album from the band here.

Mark Peters

Last year, UK artist Mark Peters released one of my favorite albums of the year with the Americana/dreampop blend of "Red Sunset Dreams."  March sees the release of "The Magic Hour EP," and new track "Alpenglow," which drops a lot of the sweeping soundscapes of its predecessor for something a little more churning.  Check it out below and pre-order the 10" here from Sonic Cathedral.

I was really into Bright Eyes for awhile in the '00s.  My adulation of the group eventually waned after a few years, the 2007 track "Clairaudients (Kill or Be Killed)" being the last song the band released that i truly adored.  Soothing, melancholy alt-folk for the soul.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

The Utopia Strong

UK psych and krautrock band The Utopia Strong just dropped new album "Gyre."  The album consists of two sprawling, enormous songs that touch on Eastern melodies and tones, analog synths, and cosmic drone.  Check out "Mansions of the Soul" below and download the album from the band here.
