The Green Child

Aussie band The Green Child dropped a new album last month of their particular brand of quirky, synth-laden, psych and jangle-tinged indie-pop, and it's got things moving and grooving over here.  Dig on new tune "The Lawn" below and snag the "Look Familiar" LP here from Upset the Rhythm.

Ka

I've begun prepping some selections for my year-end best-of lists, and new things keep creeping into my favorites of the year, like the latest from the New York rapper and firefighter Ka.  Somehow, i failed to hear that the artist released a new record a couple of months ago with the absolutely astounding "The Thief Next to Jesus."  I also missed that the album is his swan song, as he unexpectedly passed away in October at the age of 52.  RIP Ka.  The new album is quite the statement to go out on though, a mix of gospel and hip-hop with the artist's hushed delivery and insight.  It's really something.  Listen to "Tested Testimony" below and download the album here or wherever you like to stream or download things.

Daily Jam - The Sight of You

Sometimes i like to put on some Antonio Carlos Jobim and just let the jazz and bossa nova sweep everything away, like one of those commercials where a woman's shampoo magically whisks her away to a bathtub in the middle of paradise or something.  Ahhh.  Here's "The Sight of You," our Daily Jam.

Slow Salvation

To get us into the Christmas spirit, here's a haunting and dreamy new one from Jersey band Slow Salvation.  Check out "The Ghost of Last Christmas" below and download it here from Velvet Blue Music.

Mondaze

Because shoegaze is always on the menu around these parts, here's the latest from Italian shoegazers Mondaze.  New album "Linger" is out now.  Get it here from Bronson Recordings and listen to the album opening "Lines of You" below.

Lars Danielsson & Verneri Pohjola & John Parricelli

Here's some soft and tranquil jazz from the trio of Swedish bassist and cellist Lars Danielsson, Finnish trumpeter Verneri Pohjola, and English guitarist John Parricelli.  New album "ACT x Chateau Palmer" was recorded at the Chateau Palmer vineyard in France and would probably pair pretty well with a glass of wine.  Check out "Le Calme au Chateau" below, get the album here from ACT Music, and just chill out for a while.

Daily Jam - Loveless Love

Years and years ago i found a copy of The Feelies' great debut LP "Crazy Rhythms" in a used book store in College Station, Texas of all places.  Still feel pretty stoked about that find.  Here's a track from it.  Listen to "Loveless Love," our Daily Jam.

The Mellons

Utah band The Mellons specialize in crafting sweet little psych pop nuggets that worm their way into your ears and stay there.  Here's a new sweet little psych pop nugget from the band, "Tell My Why."  Check the song out below and get the 7" single here from Earth Libraries.

Paint & Matt Baldwin

Here's a weird mix of exotic guitar and drone that plays like some kind of fever dream from Brooklyn-based band Paint (Allah-Las member Pedrum Siadatian) and LA artist Matt Baldwin.  Dig on the warbled mess of "Dead Ringer" below and snag the "Cherry Lagoon" cassette from the artists here or here.

Daily Jam - Big Long Now

I had a pretty cool weekend, starting with a visit to Houston and the historic River Oaks Theater to see a holiday horror double feature of "Silent Night, Deadly Night" (1984) and "Black X-Mas" (2006) hosted by none other than Joe Bob Briggs.  I also got to revisit one of my favorite Houston area craft breweries, eat some excellent sushi with the in-laws, and then meet actor David Howard Thornton (AKA Art The Clown) back in Austin at the annual Horror for the Holidays event and market.  A Texas victory over Georgia would have been the nice little bow to tie it all together, but alas, that part was not to be.  Hope you all enjoyed your weekends as well.  Here's Nirvana with "Big Long Now," our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Taking Tiger Mountain

I think my favorite Brian Eno album probably changes on an almost daily basis.  Today, my favorite is "Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)."  Tomorrow it will be something else.  But let's listen to the wistful and playful "Taking Tiger Mountain," our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Cathy's Clown

Here's an old classic from The Everly Brothers.  I think the first time i ever heard "Cathy's Clown," it was actually the Reba McEntire version from 1989.  Anyway, let's listen to the original below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - I Wanna Be Your Dog

Here's Uncle Tupelo covering The Stooges.  Listen to "I Wanna Be Your Dog" below, our Daily Jam.

Boyhood

Canadian avant garde pop artist Boyhood released her new "Shells" EP a few days, and i am digging on the moody title track.  Check it out below and download the 3-song EP here.

2nd Grade

Philly band 2nd Grade have a cool power pop thing going on, with bits of jangle pop, old college radio, and some Guided By Voices inspiration in the mix.  Check out "Made Up My Own Mind" below and get the "Scheduled Explosions" cassette here from Double Double Whammy.

Fine

Here's some nice and melancholy music from Danish artist Fine that i missed with it dropped over the summer.  "Losing Tennessee" is a little folk, a little dreampop, a little country, and a little dust.  It's lovely.  Check the track out below and download the "Rocky Top Ballads" album here from Escho (the LP is sold out).

Daily Jam - Ex Lion Tamer

It sure would be cool if the forces that be could see to it that i get to see OG post punk band Wire perform before all is said and done with this world.  While i'm waiting for that to happen, here's "Ex Lion Tamer," our Daily Jam.

The Partridge Family Temple

Here's a little psych pop from a group of weirdos (i mean that in a good way) who claim to be in a cult that worships the characters from the 1970's sitcom "The Partridge Family."  I don't know about all that, but i can certainly appreciate weird psych pop.  Listen to "All in Your Mind" below and get the "Family Tree" LP here from Discriminate Audio.

Daily Jam - Holiday on the Moon

Finding myself listening to some old music from Love and Rockets recently and realizing how fucking great they are.  I mean, i already knew that, but getting that reaffirmation is pretty cool.  Anyway, here they are with "Holiday on the Moon," our Daily Jam.

Knifeplay

Eking in at the last few moments with some "best of 2024" music is Philly shoegaze band Knifeplay.  On new single "Spirit Echo," the band mixes in elements of Americana and classic old folk rock to beautiful, soaring effect.  Listen to the track below and pay what you want for it here from the band.

Daily Jam - Miles Ahead

Here's some early but cool and chilled out music from Miles Davis, featuring a full big band behind him directed by Gil Evans.  Listen to "Miles Ahead" below, our Daily Jam.

Disarme

French artist Disarme just dropped her debut single "Change," a moody, brooding throwback track that pulls from the alt-rock and indie sounds of the '90s and '00s.  This is one of those you listen to on headphones in your room in the dark.  Check it out below and download it here from Geographie.

Robert Ashcroft

Here's another new one from photographer turned recording artist Robert Ashcroft, this time around featuring a vocal assist from Britta Phillips of Luna and Dean and Britta fame.  We've already heard tracks featuring former Chromatics member Ruth Radelet and Black Lips member Zumi Rosow, and now we've got an album announcement to go along with all these wonderful singles.  Pre-order next month's "Echo Still Remains" LP here from Hand Drawn Dracula and listen to the sultry "Where Did You Go" below.

The Odd Pattern

The Odd Pattern is the project of Polish electronic artist and film score composer Wojciech Golczewski, and new song "Letarg" is very cinematic indeed.  The track comes in like night setting and snow falling, a world of grays.  Very pretty, but also very somber.  It's a mood and i dig it.  Listen below and download it here from the artist.

Daily Jam - He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother

Back to the grind.  Here's a melancholy classic from The Hollies.  Listen to "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" below, our Daily Jam.

Soaring

There is just something about the sound of mixing shoegaze, black metal, and post rock that is absolute heaven to my ears.  And French band Soaring have me covered on all bases with their upcoming new self-titled album.  Pre-order it here from Stellar Frequencies and enjoy the cacophonous bliss of "Sun" below.

T R E M O U R S

Dark and dreamy LA shoegaze duo T R E M O U R S are bringing us their debut long-player with the upcoming February release of "Fragments."  Check out the droney, hypnotic "Circulation Sound" below and pre-order the LP here from Little Cloud Records.

Daily Jam - Lovefool

We really are swimming in a world of shit, but i'm going to try and remain positive and focused, and maybe we can all pull ourselves out.  And that starts with some poppy, peppy, feelgood music from Swedish band The Cardigans and their infectious 1996 hit "Lovefool."  Listen below, our Daily Jam.
