Daily Jam - Sweet Young Thing Ain't Sweet No More

I've had a real bitch of a week this week and last, so i'm taking a few days off to recover at an undisclosed location with some water slides.  Hazaa!  In the meantime, listen to some classic Mudhoney for me.  Dig on "Sweet Young Thing Ain't Sweet No More" below, our Daily Jam.

The Melvins & Napalm Death

A collaborative album by The Melvins and Napalm Death makes so much damn sense, there's a part of me that just assumes it's happened before.  But i think the upcoming "Savage Imperial Death March" is the first.  And it sounds exactly like we need it to.  Listen to the pummeling "Tossing Coins into the Fountain of Fuck" below and pre-order the LP here from Ipecac.

Anna Calvi & Iggy Pop

UK artist Anna Calvi is set to release a string of new EP's over the next year exploring identity as a metamorphosis, shaped and reshaped through the experience of falling in love.  The whole thing was inspired by becoming a parent and features a great array of guest artists contributing, like Laurie Anderson and Perfume Genius.  Check out the Iggy Pop assisted "God's Lonely Man" below and pre-order the "Is This All There Is?" EP here from Domino.

Daily Jam - The Crying Game

Like a lot of people my age, my cultural entry point for English pop star Dave Berry's "The Crying Game," was Neil Jordan's 1992 film of the same name, Boy George's cover for the film, and all the parody references that followed.  It wasn't until i was an adult that i went back and listened to that original version of the tune.  It's a good one.  Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Ekko Astral

I saw Washington D.C. punk band Ekko Astral a couple of years ago at SXSW and really dug the group's queer punk and political aesthetic.  They push that political notion into absurd and surreal places on upcoming new album "The Beltway Is Burning."  Check out this description of the record:

Recorded immediately after the 2024 U.S. General Election, Ekko Astral’s second album the beltway is burning was always intended as a real-time historical document in the form of a dark comedy. Each song plays out like a vignette, with Ekko Astral beckoning listeners into their fictionalized version of The Beltway (the area within I-495), in which Adam Sandler is a god-president and the DMV has become a demilitarized zone, a wasteland run by butt rockers and Soundcloud rappers.

On the surrealist lead single “lil xan goes to washington,” the titular character travels to D.C. to lobby for addiction assistance legislation before succumbing to the cartoonish horror that is K Street (where all major lobbying firms are based), ultimately becoming a sellout himself.

Works for me.  Listen to the aforementioned "Lil Xan Goes to Washington" below and pre-order the LP here from Topshelf Records.

Daily Jam - Love

I don't know how to describe my feelings for Lana Del Rey.  There is just something about the artist that, for lack of a better turn of phrase, rubs me the wrong way.  I don't know what it is, especially when every now and then i find myself completely enraptured by a track of hers.  Maybe it's a love/hate kind of thing, but that doesn't really feel right either.  At any rate, when Lana song gets to me, it gets to me hard.  Here's "Love," our Daily Jam.

Lip Critic

Aw shit, it looks like we've got some new music from New York's Lip Critic on the horizon with this May's new album "Theft World."  For the uninitiated, the band makes a hyper, frenetic mix of noise rock, hip-hop, hardcore punk, and electronic weirdness.  Definitely worth checking out live if you get a chance.  Dig on new track "Legs in a Snare" below and pre-order the LP here from Partisan Records.

Daily Jam - This Train Don't Stop There Anymore

My job is trying to kill me.  Anyway, here's some Elton John.  Listen to "This Train Don't Stop There Anymore," our Daily Jam.

Holy Fuck

It's been a spell since i last thought about Canadian electronic and experimental band Holy Fuck.  But lo and behold, they have a new album heading our way in March with the upcoming "Event Beat."  Dig on new jam "Elevate" below and pre-order the LP here from the band.

Chat Pile

Oklahoma hardcore punk/black metal/screamo band hybrid dropped a new 7" on Friday that i missed out on whilst working all weekend.  The A-side is a beast and the B-side is a cover of an old Nirvana song.  Check out both "Masks" and the "Sifting" cover below and download them here from Sub Pop (the vinyl is already sold out).

Daily Jam - I'm Going to Stop Pretending that I Didn't Break Your Heart

Eels make good music for the blues.  Not that i have the blues or anything right now.  I think i'm just really, really tired.  Listen to "I'm Going to Stop Pretending that I Didn't Break Your Heart" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Indigo

I've got another long, long day of work ahead of me today, and i'm keeping with the psych rock jams to get me through it.  Here's a combo indie rock-psych rock track from the '00s from Andrew Douglas Rothbard.  Listen to "Indigo" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Little Hands

It's Friday.  I'm about to start what is likely to be a 13-14 hour work day.  Let's listen to the opening track to Alexander Spence's seminal 1969 psych record "Oar."  Listen to "Little Hands" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Any Way that You Want Me

It's my youngest son's birthday today.  He's 10.  This life just goes so damn fast.  Anyway, he has no idea who they are, but i'm listening to some Spiritualized this morning before work since they're one of those bands that puts me in my happy place.  Here they are covering "Any Way that You Want Me," a track written by Chip Taylor and first recorded by Tina Mason.  The song has since been covered by a ton of different groups, most notably The Troggs in 1966.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.  And happy birthday Robbie!

Darkswoon

Here's some new music from Portland's Darkswoon.  The band mixes elements of darkwave synth pop and shoegaze to craft those dreamy, darkened vibes perfect for a gray day.  New album "Antivenom" (dig the awesome album art above) is out in April.  Pre-order it here from Viasonde and listen to "Thread" below.

Virgins

Belfast shoegaze act Virgins are readying their new album "Light the Space Left Behind / Transmit a Little Heaven" for release in a couple of weeks.  Check out the lush reverb of "Signaling" below and pre-order the LP here from the band.

Daily Jam - Too Late or Too Dead

The all too short lived St. Louis band 90 Day Men released three albums of mathy, avant garde post rock in the '00s culminating in their sound defining swan song "Panda Park."  I miss them.  Here's a track from that last album.  Listen to "Too Late or Too Dead" below, our Daily Jam.

Poison Ruïn

The excellent and nerdy Philly band Poison Ruïn is back in April with a new album of Medieval-tinged punk for the Renaissance Faire set.  Check out new tune "Eidolon" below and pre-order the upcoming "Hymns of the Hills" LP here from Relapse.

Daily Jam - Stockholm Syndrome

There was a time some 20+ years ago when i was really into UK band Muse.  I saw them live a few times, bought all the CD's (albums and singles), and listened to them pretty incessantly.  Somewhere along the way, we parted ways, but lately i've been listening to those first three albums again, and they are really taking me back.  So dramatic.  Here's a track from "Absolution."  Listen to "Stockholm Syndrome" below, our Daily Jam.

Violet Grohl

I was hesitant to post this new track from Violet Grohl because of the whole nepotism thing.  But then i relented.  It's not her fault who her dad is.  And her new track, "What's Heaven Without You," is both inspired by and dedicated to David Lynch.  And i'm a sucker for David Lynch.  Check out the dark and dreamy track below and download it here.

Daily Jam - Unwind

One of the things i love about a band like Sonic Youth is that if you ask anyone what their favorite album by the group is, you'll probably get a different answer from everyone.  You may also get a different answer from the same person any time you ask.  Like for me, sometimes "Washing Machine" is my favorite.  Sometimes it's "Goo" or "Dirty" or "Daydream Nation" and so on.  But today, i'll go back to "Washing Machine."  Here's the excellent "Unwind" from the album.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Setting

April brings us new music from North Carolina band Setting.  The band's self-titled album fuses elements of progressive rock, folk, electronic, krautrock, post rock, and more to craft a hypnotic, sometime delirious sonic tapestry.  Check out the album opening "Heard a Bubble" below and pre-order the LP here from Thrill Jockey.

Daily Jam - Lay Your Hands on Me

Bon Jovi's "New Jersey" was one of my favorite albums when i was in grade school.  I think i was in the 4th grade.  It still rocks.  Here's the album opening "Lay Your Hands on Me," our Daily Jam.
