Blur released a string of amazing albums in the '90s, punctuated by the amazing break-up album "13." In hindsight, that album is the band's denouement to Britpop, something similarly achieved in hindsight on the "This Is Hardcore" LP by their peers in Pulp. I guess it's just something all the Britpop bands were doing at the time. Wrapping it up. "13" also has the added heartache of the crumbling relationship between front man Damon Albarn and Elastica's Justine Frischmann running through its blood, and it all still hits hard some 20(!) years later. Easily one of my favorite albums ever. So let's listen to "Coffee and TV," our Daily Jam.
I went through a bit of a jag with this album about two or three weeks ago, all prompted by waking up one day with this song in my head. SUCH a great song.
ReplyDeleteIt is. And i'm always slightly weirded out by how often you and i will be on the same wavelength without even realizing it.
