Glass Spells
I kind of love it when i see an album cover and know exactly what the music is going to sound like. Such is the case with "Shattered," the new album from Cali duo Glass Spells. Danceable, darkwave-tinged synth pop for the masses! Check out "Confessions" below and order the album here from Negative Gain Productions.
Daily Jam - The Flower Called Nowhere
I feel like i've got nothing today, so here's some Stereolab. Listen to "The Flower Called Nowhere" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - All Tomorrow's Parties
"All Tomorrow's Parties" is one of those songs i could literally listen to on repeat all day long. It puts me in a particular kind of vibe that i love to just roll with. So, join me along with The Velvet Underground and Nico with our Daily Jam.
Men I Trust
Montreal's Men I Trust are back with their aptly titled new album, "Untourable Album." It's almost unfathomable how difficult the last year and a half has been for touring musicians. So support them where and when you can. In this case, head over here to download the band's new album (pay what you want). And while you're doing that, check out the warbled, melancholy vibe of "Tree Among Shrubs" below.

Eyedress
LA artist Eyedress just released his latest album, "Mulholland Drive," a collection of warped and warbled pop music ready made for staticky AM radio, dreamy vistas, and ocean side gatherings. Check out "Dancing with My Demons," featuring an assist from likeminded artist Paul Cherry, below and order the album here from Lex Records.
Daily Jam - Memorial
Watching the news as a category 4 hurricane is likely to directly hit one of my favorite cities in the world. And feeling powerless. Everyone please be safe. Here's Russian Circles and Chelsea Wolfe with "Memorial," our Daily Jam.

Marie Davidson & L’Œil Nu
Montreal electronic artist Marie Davidson continues to make music with her full band L’Œil Nu to dizzying and wonderful effect. Last year's "Renegade Breakdown" was one of my personal favorites, and now the group has released a new single, "Persona," featuring three different versions of the track, playing with some Jungian concepts. Cool stuff. Check 'em all out below and download them here from Ninja Tune.
Daily Jam - Hooker with a Penis
Have you ever met a overly exuberant Tool fan? They're uh...they're something else. Anyway, here's some Tool. Listen to "Hooker with a Penis" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Tasmanian Pain Coaster
Doing my part. Listen to some El-P today. Here's the Mars Volta assisted "Tasmanian Pain Coaster," our Daily Jam.
Nothing
Last October, Philly shoegaze band Nothing released their latest full-length, "The Great Dismal." This October, they're following it up with an EP of B-sides from that album called, appropriately enough, "The Great Dismal B-Sides." Check out the beautiful, string-laden "Ambler Gambler" below and pre-order the record here from Relapse.
Irreversible Entanglements
Even if you have only a passing interest in jazz, the stuff getting released by International Anthem is almost obscenely good. And the latest is the third LP from New York/Philadelphia/Washington DC free-jazz outfit Irreversible Entanglements. "Open the Gates" is a blast and swirl of sound and textures that feels like the birth of something enormous. Check out the album opening title track below and pre-order the record here.

Daily Jam - Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head
Isn't wild that Gorillaz have been around for 20 years? One of those things that makes me feel like an old, old man. Anyway, sophomore effort "Demon Days" was a favorite around these parts for a spell, so here's "Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head." If there's anything i've learned from this song, it's that we needed more tracks with Dennis Hopper narration in them. Just a thought. Check it out below, our Daily Jam.
Explosions in the Sky
Earlier this year, Texas band Explosions in the Sky recorded the score for the appropriately Texas-themed PBS documentary about Big Bend National Park. That music is set to see a physical release in October. Check out "Climbing Bear" below and pre-order the "Big Bend" soundtrack here.
Marissa Nadler
October brings us (hopefully) cooler weather, seasonal change, Halloween, and some appropriately somber, beautiful, and sometimes murder-hued new music from Marissa Nadler. Nadler releases material all the time, but this is her first proper record of original tunes in a couple of years. Check out the wistful "Bessie, Did You Make It?" below and pre-order the upcoming "The Path of the Clouds" LP here via Sacred Bones.

Stomp Talk Modstone
Japanese shoegaze band Stomp Talk Modstone are having a busy 2021, having already released one of my favorite albums of the year back in January, and then following that up with a string of singles. The latest is the dreamy "She Was in the Depth of Misery and Take New Way." Check the track out below and get it here from the band.
Daily Jam - Potholderz
The world is getting overwhelming. I'm just going to take a breath and listen to some MF Doom for a little while. Here's "Potholderz" featuring Count Bass D, our Daily Jam.

Wednesday
I just can't help but tumble head first into the '90s alt-rock aping sounds of so many young bands out there. Does that make me old? Yeah, probably. A graying old dude getting some of that nostalgia dopamine injected straight into my ears. And North Carolina band Wednesday are supplying said dopamine today. Check out the crunchy, mid-tempo guitar swirl of "Twin Plagues" below and get the album of same name here via Orindal Records.
Daily Jam - Baba O'Riley
Ah, band members standing in front of mysterious monolith. Truly one of my favorite album cover tropes. Anyway, even though their "CSI" association can now lend an air of cheesiness to certain classic tracks by The Who, "Baba O'Riley" still slaps. Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Pissing in the Wind
Some songs out there can capture a particular type of melancholic mood that's difficult to put into actual words. Badly Drawn Boy's "Pissing in the Wind" is one of those songs, one of those moods. Check it out below, our Daily Jam.
Dean Wareham
Be it with Galaxie 500, Luna, with his wife Britta, or just on his own, there's just something about Dean Wareham's voice that sets me at ease. And that continues to be the case on his latest solo effort, "I Have Nothing to Say to The Mayor of L.A." Check out the lead-off track and single, "The Past Is Our Plaything" below and pre-order the album here from Double Feature Records.

Psychic Mirrors
It may feel like summer is nearing its end, but that's no reason we can't still listen to goofy ass pop music. And the boys and girls of Miami band Psychic Mirrors are here to provide. Smooshing together yacht rock, cheesy '80s pop, synth jazz, and a little boogie-funk, the group has sounds for pool parties, boat parties, or just dancing by yourself in your living room. Check out "You Remind Me" below and get the "Ophilia" album here.
Daily Jam - She's the One
And now for a little music from The Beta Band. Their oft hypnotic mix of psych folk and other weirdness takes me back to college every time i listen. Here's "She's the One," our Daily Jam.

Flowertown
Woke up to discover some wonderful and fuzzy indie pop this morning from San Francisco duo Flowertown. The band makes hazy, dreampop-tinged, lo-fi pop with a jangle here and some reverb there that feels like its simultaneously pulling from sounds of the '60s, the '90s, and from a decade ago. Check out "Time Trials," the title track from their new album below, and snag a copy of the record here from Paisley Shirt.
Daily Jam - Dogs
Sometimes it feels like Pink Floyd's "Animals" gets lost in the shuffle of the band's discography. I guess being wedged in between "Wish You Were Here" and "The Wall" will do that kind of thing. Anyway, there are days when i secretly and firmly believe that it's actually their best album. Listening to "Dogs" will do that kind of thing. Check the track out below, our Daily Jam.

Bnny
I am absolutely hypnotized by the opening track of Chicago artist Bnny's new album "Everything." "Ambulance" sounds like some subdued, '60s-inspired doo-wop track as performed by a reverb-heavy shoegaze or dreampop act from the first half of the '90s. Think Mazzy Star or Cowboy Junkies B-side vibes, and you're getting close. Excellent dreamy and dusty stuff. Check it out below and get the album here from Fire Talk.
Daily Jam - Watching the Planets
There are bands who will release an album that instantly and then forever falls onto my continuous playlist, and then there are bands like The Flaming Lips who have done it multiple times through multiple decades. Here's a track from the one the released in 2009. Check out the Karen O assisted "Watching the Planets" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Myself When Young
You may not think you need a jazz harpist in your life, but trust me when i say without a hint of irony, you need a jazz harpist in your life. At least that's the case with Dorothy Ashby. Considered one of the most accomplished yet underloved artists to come out of the American jazz scene, i was introduced to her 1970 album "The Rubaiyat of Dorothy Ashby" by chance a couple months ago and was completely blown away. Just masterful work. Check out one of my highlights, "Myself When Young" below, our Daily Jam.
Cherubs
It was very cool a couple years back when we got new music from '90s Austin noise makers Cherubs, and it's very cool now that we're getting even more, this time around with a new record of songs and "skrewed" versions of said songs. Check out the oozing and raucous "Lazy Snakes (Skrewed Version)" below and pre-order the upcoming "SLO BLO 4 FRNZ & SXY" here from Relapse.
Halloween Kills
Though i think it's divided among fans, i very much enjoyed the last "Halloween" movie a couple years back, and i'm stoked for the upcoming sequel, "Halloween Kills." And as usual, it's always a treat to get that accompanying John Carpenter score to go along with it. Pre-order that record here from Sacred Bones, and listen to "Unkillable" below.
ORAX
I know we're only in the middle of August, but i'm already starting to feel those early fall vibes. It could be because school has already started here, or the unseasonably cool summer we've had, or that football is right around the corner, but my autumn nature in nigh. And that means Halloween. So what better way to get a jump start on those feelings than with some soundtrack and video game inspired synth wave from ORAX. Check out the thumping churn of "Mistake" below and pre-order the upcoming "Love Kills the Demon" album here from NewRetroWave.

Parquet Courts
Brooklyn band Parquet Courts have a new album heading our way in October, and this time around the band is bringing in some dance vibes to pair with their particular brand of post punk. Citing influences like Talking Heads and Primal Scream, "Sympathy for Life" feels like it's going to be a party in a time when we desperately need one. Check out first single "Walking at a Downtown Pace," on which the Primal Scream influence is particularly evident, below and pre-order the album here from Rough Trade.
Daily Jam - In the Land of Grey and Pink
I had a 14-hour work day yesterday, so starting this fine morning off with some whimsical, prog-tinged psych folk from English band Caravan. Here's hoping it sets the tone. Check out "In the Land of Grey and Pink" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - This Is Heaven
Here's a short and sweet little number of marchy jazz from John Tchicai and Cadentia Nova Danica for what for me has been a long ass day. Listen to "This Is Heaven" below, our Daily Jam.

Dos Santos
Chicago based band Dos Santos craft a mix of psychedelia, jazz, Latin soul, folk, and more to make music that feels of the moment and of the earth. The group's upcoming new album "City of Mirrors" utilizes those vibes and sounds to paint a picture of modern America, grappling with its traditions, its history, its past transgressions, and its current ones. Check out the title track below and pre-order the record here from International Anthem.
Daily Jam - Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus
I'm so tired today. Gonna try to wake myself up with some Mars Volta before i get to work. Here's the sprawling and frenetic "Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus," our Daily Jam.

Ghost Bath
October is set to bring us new music from black metal band Ghost Bath, and just in time for Halloween too. Check out the burst of sound that is "Convince Me to Bleed" below, and pre-order the digital "Self Loather" album here from Nuclear Blast.
Daily Jam - Angry Johnny
It's been decades since i last watched this video for Poe's "Angry Johnny," and i'm struck by how she's dressed like every other girl i went to high school with. Far out. Years after the song came out, i discovered that Poe is the sister of writer Mark Z. Danielewski of "House of Leaves" fame. Anyway, check out the family's work but start below with our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Numb
Fat was one of those late '90s alt-rock bands doing a kind of rap-rock thing that was all over the radio for like a hot second in 1997. Here's "Numb," our Daily Jam.
Ty Segall
I've been busy as hell lately, working to the bone sunup to sundown, and so i missed that Ty Segall dropped a surprise album last week, his first studio solo album in 2 years (a very long time for someone as prolific as he is). Well, i got a minute to breathe, so i remedied that. Check out the crunchy and disoriented "Whisper" below and get the "Harmonizer" LP here from Drag City.
Mouth Painter
Portland band Mouth Painter take vibes and notions from country music, exotica, lounge, folk, and psychedelia to make dreamy, floaty bits of Americana. This is the kind of music to watch a sunset to, to float on your back in the ocean to, to drift away into the cosmos to. Get the band's "Tropicale Moon" LP here from Arrowhawk Records and listen to the title track below.
Smote
I love that particular kind of psychedelic vibe that sounds like wandering around forests and mountains of the East, a traveler of sorts in a faraway foreign land. So here's "Hauberk" from "Drommon," the upcoming LP from English band Smote. Check it out below and pre-order the album here from Rocket Recordings.

Daily Jam - Christmas at Brandos
Continuing my week of random ass '90s songs, so here's one from alt-rock act The Almighty Ultrasound. Check out "Christmas at Brandos" below, our Daily Jam.
Danny Elfman and Trent Reznor
Earlier this year Danny Elfman released his first solo album of non-soundtrack music in over 30 years. And now the artist has taken one of the tracks from that record, "True," and re-recorded with an assist from Trent Reznor. It's pretty rad. Check it out below and download the tune here from Anti- Records.
