Music videos! Hooray!

Check out the video for JJ's "Let Go."

And the video for "Odessa" by Caribou.

I used to watch MTV all the time when i was young. I miss it. Even Kennedy.

Feeling stupid? I know i am.

There are so many lines from "The Simpsons" that my friends and i have been quoting and using for the last 20 years, that to really do it justice, i would need to devote space for 100 lines or more. But, since i'm lazy, we'll have to settle for a top 10 instead. (I don't remember which episodes some of these come from, so i'm not even going to bother.)

1. "Welcome to Itchy and Scratchy Land, where nothing can possiblI go wrong...possibly go wrong...why that's the first thing that's ever gone wrong."

2. "Here's a ball. Perhaps you'd like to bounce it."

3. "It tastes like burning." or "I bent my wookie."

4. "I'm normally not a praying man, but if you're up there, please save me Superman."

5. "Stupid like a fox."

6. "I was saying Boo-urns."

7. "Television: teacher, mother, secret lover."

8. "Now let's go back to that...building thingy...where are beds and TV...is."

9. "I sleep in a drawer."

10. "Mrs. Simpson, we all have nose bleeds."

I could go on and on and on with these, so if' i've only just whetted your appetite for Simpsons quotes, go here for a lot more.

Record hunting

Thurs: 228 lbs.

I found No Age's "Get Hurt" EP on green vinyl yesterday! Yea!

Running again (kind of)

Wed: 227 lbs.

I ran today for the first time in weeks, but i kind of half-assed it, so i guess it doesn't really count. The dog was not cooperating very well (she wanted to stop and sniff everything rather than jog), and my headphones kept slipping out of my ears. But i like to make excuses. I'll do better later in the week.

My mom and i found Archie Manning's rookie card at an antique store last week. I know that a 1972 Topps football card is hardly an antique, but hey, who dat!

And yes, i now own an Archie Manning football card.

Yet another one of these things...

Just tell us who this is already!

Have One On Me

New Joanna Newsom! Hooray! You'll either love her or hate her (my wife hates her), so i'm not going to recommend this one. Instead, i recommend you sample Ms. Newsom's work, and then make the call.
Go over to NPR to stream the album in its entirety.

She does date Andy Samberg, so you know she's probably funny at least.

Psychic Reality/ LA Vampires

The spaced-out droney peeps over at Not Not Fun have done it again. Check out the awesome split 12" LP from Psychic Reality and LA Vampires. Very, very cool, and there's nudity on the cover. Hooray!

I also found Tool's "Undertow" on vinyl yesterday. Finally, i'm the coolest kid at the playground!

Your dad's name is Sylvester Stabone?

So, my wife and my brother both informed me today that Boner Stabone is missing (his actual name is Andrew Koenig). He went missing a week ago in Vancouver (Olympics?). That's fucking terrible. Boner was easily the best part of "Growing Pains." The worst part was everything else.

I want to know what the Canadians are doing about this. Alan Thicke is a fucking Canuck for Christ's sake. Get him on the trail.

Anyway, hoping for the best. We're all thinking about you Boner.

Odessa

Fri: 226 lbs.

Caribou has a new album coming out in April. The first single is called "Odessa." It is excellent. Go and grab the mp3 for free right here. What are you waiting for?

Tragedy boner

Ok, so a quick message to the barrage of people still floating around the wrecked building in north Austin...GO FUCKING HOME!

That's right. All you new affiliates and looky-loos need to take your cameras and your carnage boners and go back where you came from. You're turning the traffic in the area into bullshit. It's all a fucking mess because there are so many of you there. Really. It's not like we've never seen a plane crash into a fucking building before. Go home.

There are so many people hanging around the crash site, that (and i kid you not on this) planes are flying overhead with banner ads. Yes, you read that right. Fucking planes are flying advertising over the spot where a fucking plane crashed yesterday. I actually laughed out loud.

Once again, the story is over. A dipshit killed himself, and was such a sack of shit, he had to take one other guy with him. That's it. Go home.

Good night.

Front row seat for a (blown out of proportion) national news story

Not to further inundate anyone with Joe Stack's highly public suicide by plane crash, but it's not everyday you get a front row seat for this kind of shit. I work across the freeway from the crash site, and our building shook. I'm not sure if it was from the plane flying so low over us or if it was the explosion, but the ceiling and glass doors rumbled. Outside was nothing but dark smoke, fire, and gas fumes. I do want to give big kudos to all the firemen, police, and EMS responders who were literally there in less than 5 minutes after the crash. Way to go. And, i've got to give the opposite of kudos (finger wagging?) to the news networks who jumped on this thing like Osama Bin Laden was flying the fucking plane. It was a nasty suicide, and something that maybe deserves a couple of hours of broadcast time, but it's not 9-11. You're never going to have ratings like that again. Instead, you should focus on the 6 gold medals that the USA won yesterday and the bitchin aerial moves of Shaun White.

Anyhoo, everybody's got problems and no one likes to pay taxes, so next time someone has a problem, take some fucking Midol and go about your fucking day. Or, crash into my work so i can take the day off.

One last thing. Word on the street is that before Mr. Stack crashed a plane into the IRS, and before he set his house on fire, he supposedly set his cat on fire. Can anyone verify this? Blaming the IRS, your wife, the Catholic church, your CPA, and George Bush is one thing, but what did Mittens do to incur the wrath of Stack. Come on man!

Christmas Island and White Dog

Wed: 227 lbs.

Picked up "Blackout Summer" by Christmas Island. It's another winner from In The Red Records. Each track comes off like a much beloved garage pop-rock nugget, care-free and unpretentious. And that means i really like it.

On a more somber note, i watched Samuel Fuller's "White Dog" last night. Fuller ("The Naked Kiss"/"Shock Corridor") really goes all out on the anti-racism here. The film is about an actress who hits a dog with her car, nurses it back to health, and forms a bond with it, only discover that he's been trained to attack black people. Attempts to recondition the dog follow.

It's a tough watch, but very good.

And it's probably good that my wife skipped out on this one.

The Morning Benders - Excuses

Just heard "Excuses" by The Morning Bender from their upcoming LP, "Big Echo." Think awesome, catchy 60's pop with a brilliant string section, all produced by Chris Taylor (Grizzly Bear). One of the best songs i've heard so far this year.

Go to their website for a free mp3 of the jam. The album comes out on March 9th. Hooray!

The Crazies

I can't wait for this movie. Check out the trailer if you haven't seen it already.

It's got Timothy Olyphant in it, so it's got to be good right? Right?

I wish i still looked like this

Why isn't this the everyday Tommy?

There Is Love In You

New Four Tet! Hooray!

"There Is Love In You" is everything we've come to expect from a Four Tet record too, a jazzy, electro, ambient, indie album. Hooray!

Wolf Like Me

We went and saw "The Wolfman" today. Yes, i know...very romantical of me. Anyhoo, it was ok. The pacing at the beginning was a little weird, but the mood really kept in touch with the original Universal Wolfman movie. And the gore was pretty good too, beheadings and disembowelment and all that good stuff.

And Hugo Weaving is always cool.

Keeping in the spirit of Lycanthropy, here's the video for TV On The Radio's "Wolf Like Me," the best pro-werewolf song i can think of.

The House of The Devil

Sun: 226 lbs.

Happy Valentine's Day. On that note, go rent "The House of The Devil" right now. The film is a complete homage to late 1970's/ early 1980's horror flicks. From the cinematography to the film score to the title sequence at the beginning, the movie should have been made 30 years ago. And it's awesome and creepy.

So, let's all celebrate this Hallmark Holiday with good, old-fashioned satanists-terrorizing-the-babysitter movie. Yay!

MF Doom and Thom Yorke

Metal Fingers Doom, or MF Doom, or just plain old Doom has release a remix EP of his bitchin track "Gazillion Ear." The original was on last year's excellent album, "Born Like This."

The EP includes remixes from Dr. Whodat? (love that name), Dave Sitek of TV On The Radio, and Thom Yorke of all people.

The Thom Yorke remix is pretty fucking good, and you can get the mp3 here. Go get it quick.

Charlotte Gainsbourg with Beck

Here's the video for "Heaven Can Wait" from Charlotte's new record, "IRM." Beck wrote and produced. It's pretty evident. And it's good too.

Another one of these things

Thurs: 226 lbs.

Another one of these things came out.

So, now people think it's this chick. No, i don't know who she is either.

Klaus Schulze

Wed: 229 lbs.

Found "Mirage" by Klaus Schulze on vinyl today. He, of Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream fame. As you can imagine, it's very, very German.

I totally want the album cover on a t-shirt though.
Oh, and i mentioned the Pantha Du Prince record, "Black Noise" the other day. It's very good. I highly recommend it.

Shocker

Saw this for the first time on Saturday night.

Ass crap.
I probably should have guessed.

Washed Out/Small Black split 7"

So, my cold symptoms are finally starting to abate, and football season is at an end. The days are getting longer and the weather is cool. That can only mean i've gotta get my ass running again. Hrmph.

Washed Out (they of Mexican Summer and blogger fame) have put out a split 7" with Small Black. They remix each other's tunes and do a decent job of it.

You should be able to purchase it here. It's pretty good. I'd pick it up if i were you.

Still giddy

Sun: 226 lbs.
Mon: 228 lbs.

I'm exhausted and still giddy from the win last night. And i threw up this morning. Awesome.

My friend Scott sent me this pic though. Enjoy.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm too fucking drunk to do this.

We won the fucking Super Bowl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who Dat!

That was for you Dad!

Saturday, February 6, 2010

Super Bowl! Oh, it's on.

Getting very excited, i can hardly stand it. It's gonna be hard not to get emotional, no matter what happens. Much love to the Who Dat Nation.

Friday, February 5, 2010

The Gate

Fri: 229 lbs.

We got "The Gate" on our Netflix yesterday. I haven't seen this movie since i was 9 years old. Little Stephen Dorff. I can't wait.

Toro Y Moi

"Causers of This" is the new LP from Toro Y Moi. The whole thing consists of really chilled out synthy jams. It's like the soundtrack to swimming in a dream.

The track "Blessa" came out on 7" a little while ago, but the new LP came out on Tuesday. Go get the mp3 for "Blessa" right here.

The clergy are on our side

Thurs: 227 lbs.

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

New Midlake

Wed: 229 lbs.

"The Courage of Others" is the new record from Denton's Midlake. It sounds pretty solid, really drawing from old English folk music and stirring it up with their usual mellow melodies. The Fleetwood Mac comparisons are still there, though not as prevalent as on "The Trials of Van Occupanther." And that's probably a good thing. Oh, and i love the album cover.

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Sleigh Bells and Lost

Tues: 228 lbs.
So, first off, i've gotta thank and give mad props to my wife for turning me on to Sleigh Bells. They are fantastic. It's kind of like if Health and The Octopus Project teamed up with a woodland nymph and took turns throwing darts at Karen O. Take a listen over at their Myspace page and then go over here for some free mp3s.

The last season of "Lost" starts in about 20 minutes. I've got my dork hat on and a bag of Reese's Pieces, so i'm ready to go. Time to bitch slap Benjamin Linus.

Monday, February 1, 2010

February yo!

Mon: 229 lbs.

Still sick. Slowly losing my mind. Cannot take this much longer. I've got no other information than that. Sorry.
