Ces Cadaveres

Here's a cool and pulsing mix of darkwave, industrial, and goth from New York duo Ces Cadaveres.  And it's in Spanish.  Check out "La union perfecta entre el baile y el placer" below and download it from the artist here.

Friday Horror Trailer - The Hills Have Eyes

Daily Jam - Official

I first heard Swedish indie folk pop artist Jose Gonzalez almost 20 years ago with his stripped down acoustic take on The Knife's "Heartbeats."  Occasionally he also releases music with the band Junip.  Here's a track from their 2005 "Black Refuge" EP.  Listen to the brooding and practically oozing "Official" below, our Daily Jam.

The Haunted Youth

And now for some dreamy autumnal tones from Belgian band The Haunted Youth.  The upcoming "Dawn of the Freak" is a lush and wonderful mix of dreampop, shoegaze, indie rock, and new wave.  There's probably a little chillwave and post rock in there too.  Check out the hazy and nostalgic "Teen Rebel" below and pre-order the album here from Mayway Records.

Cate Kennan

Here's some very soothing instrumental experimental music from LA artist Cate Kennan.  "Sundial" feels like the kind of library synth sounds that would accompany some old vintage 16mm science film or nature documentary you'd watch on projector in 7th grade.  Check it out below and pre-order the upcoming album "The Arbitrary Dimension of Dreams" here from Post Present Medium.

Daily Jam - Jesus Christ Pose

This one popped into my head this morning.  Not an easy one to sing in the shower.  Listen to Soundgarden and "Jesus Christ Pose" below, our Daily Jam.

Men I Trust

Here's a new song from the always delightful Montreal pop band Men I Trust.  Listen to the warbled, grooving, and dreamy alt-rock of "Billie Toppy" below and download the track here.

Daily Jam - The Devil's Movin' In

It's been a spell since we last heard from ol' Hank Williams III.  Nearly a decade as far as i can tell.  Maybe he'll remedy that soon.  In the meanwhile, here's a track from the fantastic 2011 double album "Ghost to a Ghost / Guttertown."  Check out "The Devil's Movin' In" below, our Daily Jam.

Desmond Doom

Australian artist Desmond Doom released their new "Surf-Goth" EP last month, and it's full of moody post-punk and...well surf-goth vibes.  Check out "I Hope I Never See Your Face Again" below and download the EP here.

Daily Jam - Let's Get Lost

Several years ago, i began outlining an idea for a sci-fi/horror/western/adventure script about an outer space mailman who crash lands on a desert-like planet in the midst of a zombie outbreak.  I eventually abandoned it, but every now and then it will cross my thoughts when i listen to music i would have wanted to put in it.  One of those songs is Elliott Smith's "Let's Get Lost," a beautiful and melancholy lament that i would have paired with our protagonist's ship crash landing in a barren wasteland.  Maybe i'll go back to it some day.  In the meantime, listen to the track below, our Daily Jam.

The Go! Team

I'm honestly kind of amazed that The Go! Team are still around and kicking it.  That's wonderful.  Check out their latest blast of cheerleader hip-hop, afterschool psych-pop, and vintage samples below with "Divebomb."  Download the track here and look for the new album "Get Up Sequences Part 2" in February on Memphis Industries.

Daily Jam - Alone Again Or

Love is one of those bands i really need to dig into more than i have.  I've liked every song i've heard by the '60s psych band, so i really should seek out some deeper cuts.  Anyway, here's "Alone Again Or," our Daily Jam.

Peel Dream Magazine

LA artist Peel Dream Magazine has a new album coming our way next month.  Gone are the shoegaze sounds of 2020's "Agitprop Alterna," and in are the airy and baroque psychedelic kosmische sounds the artist describes as space-age bachelor pad music.  Check out "Pictionary" below and pre-order "Pad" here from Slumberland Records.

Daily Jam - NYC-25

Man i miss these guys.  And i'll always consider myself lucky i got to catch them live in 2011 before Bill Doss passed away.  Here's some music from the wonderful Olivia Tremor Control for your Sunday.  Listen to "NYC-25" below our Daily Jam.

Skinshape

Here's some jazzy, funky psychedelia from Skinshape, the project of UK artist Will Dorey.  "Nostalgia" has a lot of breezy library vibes to score a Saturday afternoon.  Check out "High Tide, Storm Rising" below and pre-order the album here from Lewis Recordings.

Daily Jam - 4:50AM (Go Fishing)

Before he left Pink Floyd in 1985, Roger Waters ventured solo with "The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking."  It's a weird and interesting record and grows on me a little bit more every time i listen to it.  Here's a song about moving your family into the wilderness to live off of the grid and then everything goes wrong.  Listen to "4:50AM (Go Fishing)" below, our Daily Jam.

Gorillaz, Tame Impala, & Bootie Brown

I remember 20 years ago when i figured Damon Albarn's and Jamie Hewlett's Gorillaz project would be one of those one-off things.  Boy was i wrong.  Here we are 20 years later, and the group have a new album on the way.  Check out new song "New Gold" featuring Tame Impala and Bootie Brown below.  It's got me toe-tapping.  And be on the lookout for the upcoming "Cracker Island" early next year on Parlophone.

Devilish Dear

Here's some nice and swirly shoegaze from Rio De Janeiro's Devilish Dear.  New album "Army of Nothing" is out now.  Go here and pay what you want for the download from Midsummer Madness.  In the meantime, listen to "Evidence" below.

Daily Jam - No Escape from Heaven

This week is going to continue to be a pain in the ass.  I can feel it.  But enough about me, here's Curve with "No Escape from Heaven," our Daily Jam.

Darkswoon

Gloomy synths and reverbed guitars get me every damn time.  And Portland trio Darkswoon bring the gloomy synths and reverbed guitars.  New album "Bloom/Decay" is a catchy and melancholy mix of shoegaze, darkwave, and death rock.  Perfect sounds to wear black to.  Listen to "Eaten by Wolves" below and get the record here.

they are gutting a body of water

The first thing that piqued my interest about Philly band they are gutting a body of water was the strange band name: they are gutting a body of water.  The second thing was their warbled and lo-fi mix of shoegaze and dreampop.  Check out "Violence II" below.  It gets right to the edge of sounding like sonic inebriation, and then pulls it back just in time.  New album "Lucky Styles" drops next month.  Pre-order it here for a dollar.

Gold Dust

Here's a new track from Americana-tinged psych folk artist Gold Dust.  "Proof of Life" sounds like it should be played loud in a sunny haze.  Check it out below, and get the lathe-cut 7" single and/or the upcoming "The Late Great Gold Dust" LP here from Centripetal Force.

Misha Panfilov

Here's a very cool mix of jazz, psych, and lounge music from Estonian artist Misha Panfilov.  New album "The Sea Will Outlive Us All" feels part nature documentary, part cosmic meditation.  I think i may have found what i'm listening to while working today.  Check out "Waves" below and get the LP here.

Dark Canyon

I love the dusty mix of psych, folk, surf, and more that makes up the sounds of old Spaghetti Western music.  And it's wonderful that there are artists out there still finding influence from the scores of Morricone et al.  The latest comes from Chicago project Dark Canyon.  Check out the pitch perfect "Ouroboros" below and pick up the artist's self-titled LP here.

Daily Jam - Disconnect the Dots

Stressed and depressed.  Let's try to remedy that with some pop from Of Montreal.  Listen to "Disconnect the Dots" below, our Daily Jam.

Beak> - Kosmik Musik

The UK prog rock trio of Geoff Barrow, Billy Fuller, and Will Young, better known as Beak> are providing sonic accompaniment to the upcoming new graphic novel by writer and filmmaker Ben Wheatley and artist Joe Currie called "Kosmik Musik."  The whole thing sounds pretty cool.  Here's what the description on Bandcamp says:

Kosmik Musik is melting pot of 2000ad, Metal Hurlant, Kirby tech, psychedelic 60s art, Doctor Who, Douglas Adams, Kraut Rock, Star Trek and Star Wars. A UK 70s English childhood basically.  The galaxy is a big place–but not big enough for Mick and Eve as they are chased across it by cops, inter-dimensional plunderers, rogue artificial intelligences, middle-aged assassins and a third-tier superhero team.  Come with us on a rip roaring, planet hopping adventure. Punches will be thrown, tears will be shed and music will be played on vinyl on vintage record players as Mick and Eve try to solve every sentient creature’s fundamental questions like why and what... and eh? Yes, dear reader, Kosmik Musik will unlock some of the more pressing mysteries of the universe. True Fact.

Sounds excellent.  Sign me up.  And in the meantime, listen to the full and epic proggy, synthy "score" below.  Then download it here.

Daily Jam - Touch Me

I like to think that had Jim Morrison not died, he and The Doors would have had a big Las Vegas phase like Elvis.  It would have sounded a lot like "Touch Me."  But bigger.  And Vegas-ier.  Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Mark Peters

Mark Peters is a founding member of the UK shoegaze band Engineers who also often collaborates with ambient dreampop artist Ulrich Schnauss.  With "Red Sunset Dreams," Peters goes solo, combining elements of shoegaze, ambient, Americana, and cosmic country to create a dreamy and ethereal soundscape to watch the setting sun to.  Check out the album opening "Switch on the Sky" featuring Dot Allison on vocals below and order the record here from Sonic Cathedral.

Green/Blue

Here's some great new post punk music from Minneapolis band Green/Blue.  Check out "Worry" below, and get the new "Worry / Gimme Hell" 7" here from Feel It Records.

Daily Jam - Love Buzz

If anyone out there ever wants to give me an original Sub Pop Singles pressing of Nirvana's "Love Buzz," i will gladly accept.  Here's the band covering Shocking Blue.  Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Swedish gothic death metal band Tribulation just released a new single called "Hamartia."  It rules.  Check out the video for the song below and dig on those guitar solos.

Friday Horror Trailer - The Hitcher

Daily Jam - Friday

I miss going to shows.  But the combination of parenthood, moving out of the city, and then later the pandemic, has turned seeing live music into a rare occasion.  I used to go all the time.  That was one of the big allures when i first moved to Austin in the '90s.  Growing up out in Midland, Texas, there weren't a whole lot of artists that passed through.  Or at the very least, there weren't a lot of artists that i was interested in that passed through.  So when i arrived at UT, it seemed like the city was just exploding with live music.  Very quickly i learned to love venues like Liberty Lunch and Emo's.  And over the next couple of years, i got to see bands like Blur, Mercury Rev, The Flaming Lips, and so on.  I also vividly recall catching Sunny Day Real Estate a couple of times too.  Anyway, let's pull out of this memory rabbit hole and just listen to some Sunny Day instead.  Here's "Friday," our Daily Jam.

Shit and Shine

Man, i haven't thought about Shit and Shine and in years, but the Texas psychedelic experimental noise project is still chugging along, with new album "New Confusion" on the horizon from Rocket Recordings.  Check out the fuzzy and warbled paranoid din of "Annoyed" below and pre-order the record here.

Permanent Daylight

Permanent Daylight is a Berlin-based Scottish-Indian duo who make pulsing, ethereal darkwave jams to dance the night away to in some imaginary European goth club.  Listen to "Shadow" below and check out the band's debut "Temptress" here.

Daily Jam - 2HB

Every time i go back and listen to those first few Roxy Music albums, it's a revelation.  They're just so unbelievably good.  Anyway, here's a track from the band's debut.  Listen to "2HB" below, our Daily Jam.

Algiers w/ Billy Woods & Backxwash

Atlanta band Algiers has been making interesting music for a number of years, be it their soul meets post punk beginning or the weirder sonic territories they explored as part of the Nun Gun project last year.  They continue to push forward with new track "Bite Back," featuring New York rapper Billy Woods and Canadian rapper Backxwash.  This one feels kind of like a mix of everything they've been up to this point.  It's awesome.  Listen below and download it here from Matador.

drowse

Portland artist drowse has a new album of his particular brand of dark and melancholy shoegaze heading our way in November with "Wane into It."  Check out the creeping, crawling album opener "Untrue in Headphones" below and pre-order the record here from The Flenser.

METZ Featuring Joe Talbot

Canadian noise outfit METZ just dropped a new single featuring a vocal assist from UK post punk bnd IDLES front man Joe Talbot.  The result is "Come on Down," a raucous and frenetic blast of sound.  Check it out below and download it here from Sub Pop.

John Carpenter and Halloween Ends

Speaking of Halloween, what's a forthcoming new "Halloween" movie without a new John Carpenter score?  Look for it next month on Sacred Bones (pre-order here), but in the meantime, listen to the ominous "The Procession" below.

Boy Harsher

Halloween's arriving just a little bit early this year...which means it's right on time around these parts.  Darkwave duo Boy Harsher just dropped a new track, "Burn It Down," that's featured in the upcoming "Halloween Ends."  I had no idea the duo had supplied a song for the movie, so this is most welcome news.  Check out the moody, brooding track below and pre-order the 12" single here from Nude Club.

Floating Shrine

Some days i just need some airy, ethereal ambient music to keep me level, to balance me out, to calm my frayed nerves.  Australia-based artist Floating Shrine should do the trick.  New album "Growth and Decay" is out now.  Get it here from Decaying Spheres and listen to the album closing "Norway" below.  And breathe.

Laure Briard

French artist Laure Briard is back with a new album heading our way early next year.  New tune "My Love Is Right" really hits that sweet spot, a mix of '70s easy listening, '60s French pop, and kosmische psychedelia.  Check it out below and pre-order the "Ne pas trop rester bleue" LP here from Midnight Special Records.

Daily Jam - Un Amico

Every now and then, i'll be watching some '70s Italian crime flick, and i'll hear a segment of the film's score and know that i've heard it somewhere before.  Generally, it's either because it's Ennio Morricone or it was used by Tarantino in one of his films.  In the case of "Un Amico" from the 1973 film "Revolver," it was because of both.  Anyway, it's a great piece of film music.  Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Weyes Blood

November brings us new music from LA's Weyes Blood.  The artist has been churning out a great mix of folk, psych, pop, and other sounds for a number of years now, with each release feeling bigger and grander than the last.  That trend seem to be repeating with the upcoming "And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow."  Check out the lovely first single "It's Not Just Me, It's Everybody" below and pre-order the new LP here from Sub Pop.

Ruth Radelet

Here's a new track from former Chromatics member Ruth Radelet.  "Stranger" is melancholy dreampop at its most lonesome.  Check it out below, download it here, and be on the lookout next month for the artist's debut solo EP "The Other Side."
