Daily Jam - Welcome to the Machine

Like a lot of dudes before me, i went through a pretty heavy Pink Floyd phase when i was in college.  My enthusiasm for the band has waned over the years, but every now and then i go back and listen and remember why i got so wrapped up in them in the first place.  Here's a track from "Wish You Were Here," maybe the strongest and most consistent release from the band.  Listen to "Welcome to the Machine" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - 4:50AM (Go Fishing)

Before he left Pink Floyd in 1985, Roger Waters ventured solo with "The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking."  It's a weird and interesting record and grows on me a little bit more every time i listen to it.  Here's a song about moving your family into the wilderness to live off of the grid and then everything goes wrong.  Listen to "4:50AM (Go Fishing)" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Dogs

Sometimes it feels like Pink Floyd's "Animals" gets lost in the shuffle of the band's discography.  I guess being wedged in between "Wish You Were Here" and "The Wall" will do that kind of thing.  Anyway, there are days when i secretly and firmly believe that it's actually their best album.  Listening to "Dogs" will do that kind of thing.  Check the track out below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - No Good Trying

For the longest time, all i knew of Syd Barrett was the kinda exaggerated stories of his mental illness and the covers of his songs '90s alt-rock bands liked to play.  Not too much has changed these days with the exception of knowing and listening to the former Pink Floyd member's original versions of his songs.  Here's "No Good Trying," our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - The Final Cut

Pink Floyd's "The Final Cut" served as kind of a denouement to "The Wall," a continuation that found Waters in even more bitter and anguished territory.  The album's a little uneven, but when it lands, it's a masterpiece, and the title track might be my favorite thing the band ever did.  It crushes me every single time.  Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Pallbearer - Run Like Hell

Wow.  So Magnetic Eye Records are assembling a cover album of Pink Floyd's "The Wall" using a string of metal artists and more.  Tentatively scheduled for a November release, the record includes contributions from The Melvins, Spaceslug, and Mark Lanegan among a whole slew of other artists i've never heard before.  I'm particularly interested to hear what Church of The Cosmic Skull's version of "The Trial" sounds like.  In the meantime, check out Arkansas stoner/doom metal act Pallbearer's take on "Run Like Hell" below and order the record here.
