Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everybody!  I know i've posted this in the past, but this fan made video for Ministry's "Everyday Is Halloween" is one of my favorite things ever.  Enjoy.

October Horror Trailer - Trick 'r Treat

Posting these trailers has been a lot of fun.  I love, love, love all of these films, and highly encourage anyone who hasn't seen them to check them out, or just rewatch if it's been a while.

Emily Reo

Brooklyn singer/songwriter Emily Reo just released "Spell," a 10" single available from Orchid Tapes.  Backed by a 9-piece band fronted Owen Pallett, the artist crafts lush and mysterious pieces of art pop, of which B-side "Stronger Swimmer" is a beautiful example of.  Listen below.

Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation

Sweden's Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation craft lush and gorgeous krautrock-indebted tapestries of sound, motorik beats and psychedelic flares rushing in and out on new album "Mirage," sounding both like a part of the past and a part of the future that never happened.  Splashes of Broadcast or Stereolab cook in a psych-drenched, proggy haze, with too many other influences to even name.  This is an instant classic.  Listen to "Rushing Through My Mind" below and grab the album here.

October Horror Trailer - Lifeforce

FYI: There are a lot of boobs in this trailer, so NSFW i guess.

October Horror Trailer - We Are Still Here

Glass Candy - Halloween

Originally released five(!) years ago, Glass Candy's "Halloween" was meant to be taste of the group's upcoming new album "Body Work."  Said album is still not out yet, but the duo have reworked the track and provided a new spooky video for the song.  Watch and listen below, but maybe don't hold your breath for the new record anytime soon.

October Horror Trailer - Tenebre

S U R V I V E - Copter

Austin synth wave four piece S U R V I V E are having a huge year, and they just released a new video for "Copter," one of the highlights from their "RR7349" LP.  Watch below and get the record from Relapse.

Leonard Cohen - You Want It Darker

He may be 83 years old, but Leonard Cohen still kills it with every release.  His new album "You Want It Darker" carries the same heaviness his previous records have had, Cohen's low and gravelly vocals sounding like dark omens or mystic storytelling from some old sage.  Listen to the title track below.

MOLLY

Austrian shoegaze duo MOLLY just released their "As Years Go By" EP, which you can get from the group here.  The duo create cold and haunting shoegaze jams that sound like drifting away into the darkness.  Watch the video for the title track below.

October Horror Trailer - Repulsion

Mad Monster Party

The good folks over at Waxwork Records have yet to release anything that hasn't been absolutely stellar, and their latest, the soundtrack to the fun and quirky "Mad Monster Party" continues that trend.  I have never actually seen the 60's animated film before, but judging by the music, and the photo stills i've seen online, i need to remedy that.  Listen to Maury Laws' and Jules Bass' wonderful title track below.

Thee Oh Sees - The Poem

I seem to be writing about new music from Thee Oh Sees all the damn time, the prolific nature of Dwyer and company keeping me up to my armpits in fantastic, psychedelic garage rock.  So far, 2016 has brought us a live album, a couple singles, the blistering "A Weird Exits" LP, and now the upcoming companion album "An Odd Entrances."  The first taste of the new record is the pretty, lullaby-feeling "The Poem," like walking through a garden in a sunny haze.  Listen below and grab the new album from Castle Face Records next month.

The Flaming Lips - The Castle

Good news everyone!  January is going to bring us a new album by The Flaming Lips.  "Oczy Mlody" is the band's first new album of original material in four years, and while Beatles tributes and Miley Cyrus collaborations are certainly fun and interesting, i'm stoked for this.  Watch the video for "The Castle" below and get the record next year from Warner Bros.

October Horror Trailer - From Beyond

Moby and The Void Pacific Choir

I've always had a soft spot for Moby, and while he's not quite the pop cultural phenomenal force he was 15+ years ago, he consistently releases wonderful music.  Now under the guise of Moby and The Void Pacific Choir, his latest album, "These Systems Are Failing," continues his kinda preachy, but still catchy electronic pop.  Watch the excellent and depressing Max Fleischer indebted video for "Are You Lost in the World Like Me" below and get the new record from Mute.

October Horror Trailer - Sleepaway Camp

Oneohtrix Point Never - Animals

Oneohtrix Point Never's excellent "Garden of Delete" LP came out last year, but the track "Animals" just got a video starring perennial weirdo Val Kilmer.  And that's fantastic.  Watch below.

Marching Church

Iceage front man Elias Bender Rønnenfelt has been making music with his solo side project Marching Church for a few years, but has now added a full band into the mix on new album "Telling it Like it Is."  Kind of a hazy post-punk and Goth hybrid, the music feels dark, cold, and a little sinister.  Grab the record from Sacred Bones and watch the video for album track "Lion's Den" below.

October Horror Trailer - The Howling

Purling Hiss

A collision of garage rock fuzz, psych rock jangle, and grunge flair, the latest from Philly's Purling Hiss is a force to be reckoned with, some sonic mayhem to face the coming days with.  New album "High Bias" is out now on Drag City.  Listen to album opener "Fever" below.

October Horror Trailer - Tourist Trap

Cloud Nothings - Modern Act

Hey, a new Cloud Nothings song.  This wasn't on my radar at all.  The band continues to draw inspirations from classic acts like The Replacements, and that's a good thing.  Listen to "Modern Act" below and be on the lookout for the band's new record, "Life Without Sound," in January from Carpark.

October Horror Trailer - Chopping Mall

Marie Davidson

Montreal based electronic musician Marie Davidson has been making wonderfully dark and moody electronic atmospheres for a few years now, but on her latest album "Audieux Au Dancefloor," the artist seems to be pushing herself into more of a dance mode than on previous efforts...though the moodiness certainly remains.  Listen to "Naive to the Bone" below and get the record from Minimal Wave.

Solange - Cranes in the Sky

It's always pleasantly surprising when an artist you normally wouldn't pay any real attention to delivers a song or work that just demands it of you.  And so we have "Cranes in the Sky," a new song from Solange (she of the Knowles clan) from her new album "A Seat at the Table."  The song is this gorgeous and airy ode to self-empowerment and is proving to be my jam of the morning.  Watch the excellent video below.

Crying

New York's Crying take dozens of sounds and tropes from a whole plethora of genres and styles and combine it all into this kind of nerdy, poppy heaven.  Arena rock meets bubble gum pop.  Guitars and synths for everyone!  Listen to "Wool in the Wash" below and snag the "Beyond the Fleeting Gates" album Friday from Run for Cover.

Uniform

Uniform is the New York duo of Ben Greenberg (formerly of The Men) and Michael Berdan (formerly of Drunkdriver), a blistering combination of punk bombast and industrial shrieking.  "Ghosthouse" comes from the upcoming 12" of the same name, and it's a bleak and noisy mess, the perfect match for election season.  Listen below and grab the record from Sacred Bones.

October Horror Trailer - The Burning

Bryce Miller

Like some new age guru and a mid-90's computer geek got high together and discovered a bunch of John Carpenter soundtracks, Bryce Miller's "City Depths" album plays dark and eerie, but with enough moody electronic ambience to keep things from getting too pastiche.  Listen to "Wander" below and grab the cassette from Spun Out of Control.

October Horror Trailer - Dressed to Kill

Steve Moore - The Mind's Eye

Much love to Shawn for the heads up on this.  It seems that every time i hear about a new horror film i wanna check out, Joe Begos' new film "The Mind's Eye" this time around, there's always a good chance the score will be provided by Zombi's Steve Moore.  And that's awesome.  The artist has been perfectly taking cues from prog and synth horror soundtracks and bending them into his own constructs for years now, and it's lovely to see his stuff actually compliment real films.  Listen to "Intro" below and pre-order the record from Relapse.

Dungen

Swedish prog and psych rock band Dungen have a new record, "Haxan," out in November on Mexican Summer.  Listen to the first taste, "Jakten genom skogen," an airy and cosmic instrumental below.
