Beck

Last week, Beck quietly released his 15th studio album with "Ride Lonesome."  It's been a few years since his last full-length, and on the new album he's digging back into those sad Beck sounds, akin to the lush and melancholy vibes of "Sea Change" or "Morning Phase."  Check out the gentle "In the Night" below and get the LP here.

Wayfarer

Denver band Wayfarer make a kind of western-tinged hard rock music, like the heavy soundtrack to some bleak Spaghetti Western, but with occasional bursts of doom and black metal interspersed among the psychedelic Americana.  Definitely its own vibe, and it transports right into the thick of it.  Check out "Hollow Hearts on the Trail to Eden" below and pre-order the band's forthcoming "Riders of the Setting Sun" LP here from Vesperian.

Thorn Wych

Here's some strange and haunting experimental folk from UK artist Thorn Wych.  The music on "Aesthesis" sounds ancient, like the musical accompaniment to some exotic ritual, passed down through the ages, old myths and foreign customs.  Check out the warped and yearning strings of "Longing Song" below and get the LP here from Tompkins Square.

Jonathan Bree

New Zealand artist Jonathan Bree drops the dark and horny pop album of the year with his new "Don't Call it Love" LP.  I guess that album cover is the first indication of what's going on here, a sultry mix of trip-hop, R&B, and electro-pop.  Check out "Savour My Love" featuring vocals from Rachel Clarke below, and get the double LP here from Lil' Chief Records.

The Sick Man of Europe

Dummy

LA band Dummy fuse elements of shoegaze, psychedelia, and the late '80s/early '90s sounds of Manchester to delirious effect.  On their upcoming new album "Do You Love the Color of the Sky?," the band sites artists like Seefeel, Windy and Carl, Bjork, The Sundays, and Madonna's "Ray of Light" as influences.  That's a lot of cool sounds coming together.  Check out "Full Spectrum Dominance" below and pre-order the LP here from Polyvinyl.
