October continues to look like a pretty goddamn amazing month for new music, so we may as well go ahead and throw a new record from Savannah metal band Kylesa into the mix. "Exhausting Fire" hits October 2nd on Season of Mist, but go ahead and listen to increasingly psych-metal vibes of "Lost and Confused" below.

Kylesa live at Mohawk pics
Squeezing in some last second fun and music before fatherhood, and was lucky enough to catch Kylesa's stop in Austin while touring for their excellent new record, "Ultraviolet." Opening was the loud-as-hell wall-of-sound of psych rock band White Hills, followed by the witch-centric flute and organ metal of Toronto's Blood Ceremony. They looked like a bunch of drama majors, but were a lot of fun. Flute jam is the best kind of jam.
Kylesa were everything i wanted them to be...part stoner metal, part sludge, part shoegaze, and they threw a theremin into the mix as well. And there was some kind of instrument made out of a skateboard, so you know they're innovators. Anyway, here's some pics, and re-listen to "Unspoken," one of my favorite songs of the year so far.

Kylesa - Vulture's Landing
I've really been digging everything i've been hearing from Kylesa's upcoming new album "Ultraviolet." Of late, the band has been combining their metal riffs with more of a shoegaze kind of thing. With Laura Pleasants on lead vocals, there's almost a Curve feel to the whole thing...but with more balls. Listen to "Vulture's Landing" below and look for the new album in May on Season of Mist.

Kylesa
Dark, cold, dread. The latest from Savannah metal group Kylesa finds the band venturing into icy Goth territory, aided by the vocals of member Laura Pleasants on "Unspoken." This is doom music for the end. Look for new album "Ultraviolet" in May from Season of Mist, but listen to "Unspoken" now below.
