Daily Jam (October Edition) - Nature Trail to Hell

When i was 10, "Weird Al" Yankovic was my undisputed favorite musical artist, the first person whose entire back catalog i just had to have.  I devoured it all.  I absorbed it all.  Parodies, originals, all of it.  Here's a cut from "In 3-D," a mock theme song to a horror movie that doesn't but totally should exist.  I'd go see it.  Anyway, here's "Nature Trail to Hell," our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Der Fuehrer's Face

I've had this cued up since Wednesday, but the media seemingly does not want to just let it happen.  So screw it, i'm calling it.  You heard it hear first, Spike Jones's "Der Fuehrer's Face," our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota

I honestly have no idea who i would be if i hadn't had Weird Al in my life as a kid.  Probably somewhere boring and hating myself.  Anyway, here's "The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota," a song i've found myself singing every other day for the last 30 years.  Our Daily Jam.

Tim Heidecker - Sentencing Day

Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary that...well...you know what happened.  Anyway, comedian, musician, and fellow libtard Tim Heidecker has been putting out all manner of protest songs about President Dipshit ever since, most of which will be collected on the album "Too Dumb for Suicide," out digitally tomorrow on Jagjaguwar.  Read Heidecker's thoughts on the album and then listen to the ballad "Sentencing Day" below.

Well here it is. About one year in the making, all my Trump songs in one place. Most of these songs were written and recorded quickly, with the blood still boiling from whatever indignity or absurdity had popped up on my newsfeed that day. Certainly, “Trump Tower” was written in the rotten dawn, days after Trump’s win. Let’s hope I don’t write any more of these, but I probably will. Thanks to Davin Wood for playing piano on “Trump Tower,” and thanks to Jonathan Rado, who produced and played on a good number of these (the ones where you hear some of that beautiful tape hiss on, mostly)—his tribute to Steve Nieve on “Imperial Bedroom” is particularly inspired. Thanks to Kane Ritchotte and Max Whipple for providing the best rhythm section a boy could ask for and to Jordan Katz, Taylor Plenn and David Ralicke for laying down some sweet horns on “Wilbur Ross.” Thanks to Vic Berger for adding some backups to “Sentencing Day” and for usually being the best audience for these tunes. Thanks to Josh Tillman for surprising me with a tear-inducing cover of “Trump’s Private Pilot” and for allowing us to include it here…. Finally, NO thanks to Paul Simon who didn’t let us include “I Am a Cuck.”

I'm totally into this.  How about you?

Tim Heidecker - I Am A Cuck

On his latest song, "I Am A Cuck," comedian Tim Heidecker goes the political comedy route, parodying Simon and Garfunkel's "I Am A Rock" to skewer the "alt-right," the steaming, festering side of the political right whose views are rooted in racism, misogyny, and white nationalism.  And it's pretty effective, using that movement's buzzwords and insults, and spitting them right back at them.  Seriously though, fuck those guys.  Listen below.

The Super Bowl Shuffle

Soooo...a bunch of musicians and comedians got together to do a cover of '85 Bears' "The Super Bowl Shuffle."  Members of the super group include Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Tim Harrington (Les Savy Fav), Honus Honus (Man Man), David Wain (The State, Stella), Kyle Kinane, and internet cat Lil Bub among others.  And just like the original...it's amazing.  Listen below.  And look for the charity 7" in the near future to benefit Reading Is Fundamental.
