Jorge Elbrecht makes all kinds of music, from psychedelic to darkwave synth pop to black metal. He collaborates with a lot of other artists as well, and his upcoming new 7" he pairs with Ariel Pink on the A-Side for a noisy blast of industrial-tinged mayhem. Listen to "Traces of Death" below and get the "Gloss Coma 003" record here.

SSION featuring Ariel Pink remixed by Johnny Jewel
Earlier this year...like a month ago maybe...i felt a case needed to be made for the Ariel Pink assisted SSION track "At Least the Sky Is Blue" to be considered a very early contender for song of the summer. I still do, but now we've got a remix and an instrumental version of the song by Johnny Jewel to make an even stronger argument. Listen to both below and download them here via DERO Arcade.

SSION and Ariel Pink
Dreamy, breezy artist/producer SSION just released a new song, and it features Ariel Pink at that. "At Least the Sky Is Blue" plays like a chilled, psych pop leaning, soft rock jam, sure to grace stereo speakers at pool parties and yacht clubs once the summer begins in earnest. Listen below, cop the song here, and be on the lookout for the upcoming "O" LP in May on DERO Arcade.

Ariel Pink - Feels Like Heaven
Ariel Pink's new album "Dedicated to Bobby Jameson" is out next month on Mexican Summer, and the artist has released another new track from the record, this time with the dreamy, 80's pop-tinged "Feels Like Heaven." It's an airy and floating little jam, a wistful post summer tune for sunsets. Listen below.

Ariel Pink & Weyes Blood
Frequent collaborators Ariel Pink and Weyes Blood have joined forces again for the upcoming "Myths 002" EP, out later this month on Mexican Summer. The recording was made in conjunction with label's annual Marfa Myths festival, an art and music event i really need to make it out to one of these days. Listen to the magical and almost medieval sounding "Tears on Fire" below.

Drugdealer
If it seems like there is a veritable endless amount of musical styles, genres, and influences to mine for modern inspiration, that's because there is. Drugdealer, the latest side project from Run DMT main man Mike Collins channels the easy soft rock grandeur of folks like Carole King and that ilk to sublime effect on the single "Suddenly" featuring a vocal assist from Weyes Blood's Natalie Mering, and Ariel Pink on the boards. It's lovely. Listen below, and pre-order the upcoming "The End of Comedy" LP on Weird World Records.

Ariel Pink
So, this Friday is the dreaded Black Friday. As someone who works in retail, let me just say...ugh. Anyway, Record Store Day's Black Friday event sees a slew of new and limited releases hitting the shelves on the 27th, and while there really aren't many that piqued my interest, we are getting a new Ariel Pink 7", featuring an assist from Blood Orange's Dev Hynes. The two songs are taken from the film, "Heaven Knows What," and they're warped and spacey. Try to grab it on Friday at your local brick and mortar record store, and watch the video for A-side "I Need a Minute" below.

Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz
I feel like i need to weigh in on this...and it feels really, really weird to do so. I'm not usually one to hype up some manufactured pop superstar, but this whole Miley Cyrus thing is just too much to ignore. Earlier this week, the former Hannah Montana released a crazy album that she made with The Flaming Lips called "Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz." To be frank, it's a complete and utter mess, but kind of a fascinating one, full of bedroom club stompers celebrating drugs and sex (what 22-year old doesn't dig drugs and sex?), sweet psych-pop ballads, and some all around weirdness. It's overlong and all over the place, basically like someone just vomited up months of artistic ideas with no real purpose, a purging of glitter and pastel colors. That's not to say that there aren't some genuine gems on the record though...which it why i'm even writing about this. Kudos to Cyrus here, going outside of her normal label system to create what she wants to create, even at those moments where it feels juvenile or misguided. She is 22 after all. And you can certainly feel The Flaming Lips' presence, and Wayne Coyne in particular. Often i can't tell if he's rejuvenating his artistic muscle working with these young pop starlets, or if he's just a creepy old weirdo. Probably more of the latter, but at least we're getting some interesting music out of the deal.
Anyway, i couldn't embed the whole thing, so you'll need to go here to listen to the whole album, but in the meantime, take a gander at the Ariel Pink assisted "Tiger Dreams" below.
I can't believe i just did a write-up of Miley Cyrus.

Ex Cops and Ariel Pink
I've never really payed much attention to Brooklyn duo Ex Cops. They've always been on the periphery...i think i may have even seen them before at SXSW, but i don't remember. Well, they've got my attention now with their new track "Tragically Alright," featuring an assist from Ariel Pink...and Billy Corgan of all people on the boards. It's a woozy, intoxicating song, and if it's any indication of upcoming album "Daggers," it may be worth checking out. Listen below and look for the album in October on Downtown.

Jorge Elbrose
One of the coolest record labels to surface in the last few years is Mexican Summer, and to celebrate their 5 year anniversary, the label is releasing a coffee table book with pictures, notes, etc. along with a 10" of collaborative efforts from Mexican Summer artists. One of those is Jorge Elbrose (Jorge Elbrecht and Ariel Pink). The duo put out an excellent 7" earlier this year, and hopefully this new jam is a sign of some future recordings in the future. Listen to the crunchy, warped, sun burnt indie pop of "Called to Ring" below and grab the book/10" record here.

Ariel Pink and Jorge Elbrecht
Sonic trash excavator Ariel Pink often makes some of his most easily engaging work when when collaborating with others as evidenced by the wonderful "Hang on to Life," a limited 7" release with Jorge Elbrecht on Mexican Summer. Listen below.

Schuh, Pink, and Cowboy
LA weirdos Neil Schuh, Crooked Cowboy, and the always eclectic Ariel Pink teamed together to record a one off 7" for Origami Records. "Cloak and Dagger" is a strange mix of warbled vocals, dubby bass lines, and echoed atmospherics. Trippy stuff. Listen below and grab the record here.
