Wear Your Wounds

I've been a big fan of Jacob Bannon's Wear Your Wounds project since first hearing it on a split 7" back in 2012.  Epic, heavy pangs of post rock and metal that's perfect for darkened skies and blackened souls.  Sophomore album "Rust on the Gates of Heaven" is out in July on Deathwish.  Listen to the title track below and pre-order the record here.

Birds In Row

Birds In Row are a French post-hardcore punk band who shroud themselves i secrecy.  They only go by their first initials and do not allow photos of their faces to be taken.  That's cool i guess, but more importantly, they've got a really excellent, moody, and aggressive sound going for them.  Listen to "15-38" below and pre-order the upcoming "We Already Lost the World" LP here from Deathwish.

Thou

Baton Rouge sludge metal band Thou are looking to have a very, very, very busy summer, having already released a droney, noisy mess of an EP earlier this month with "The House Primordial," a new EP, the dark and acoustic-centric "Inconsolable," drops officially tomorrow.  But that's not all!  The band also has a third EP on the way in July called "Rhea Sylvia" which the band describes as melodic grunge, a kind of Alice In Chains homage.  But that's still not all!  August will see the release of the band's fifth full-length of what is sure to be a crushing colossus of doom called "Magus."  Stream "Inconsolable" below, download it here, and pre-order the vinyl here from Community Records.

Then, listen to "The Only Law" from "Rhea Sylvia," pre-order the download here, and pre-order the vinyl here from Deathwish Inc.

And finally, listen to "The Changeling Prince" from "Magus," pre-order the download here, and pre-order the vinyl here from Sacred Bones.

Whew!  That's a lot of Thou.  Be careful out there.

Wear Your Wounds

I first heard Wear Your Wounds, the wonderful side project of Converge's Jacob Bannon, years ago on a split single with the band Revelator.  And honestly, it's been so long since i last heard from them, that i kind of thought it was a one and done kind of deal.  Thankfully, i was wrong and it's not, as a full-length LP is due in April on Deathwish Inc called "WYW."  Listen to the moving and epic "Goodbye Old Friend" below.

Fucked Up - Year of the Hare

Canadian troublemakers Fucked Up are set to release the latest in their series of Zodiac-themed singles, "Year of the Hare" in a couple of weeks on Deathwish Inc.  These boys and girls are still one of the best live acts around, and new music from them is always grand and welcome news.  Go here to listen to the 20-minute jam and watch the interactive video.

Cold Cave - Nausea, the Earth, and Me

While it has been a few years since we've gotten a proper album from Wes Eisold's Cold Cave, the man/band have released some pretty awesome singles and EP's since then, many of which will be collected on the upcoming "Full Cold Moon" set for release in June on Deathwish Inc.  Listen to the cold, pulsing, and ugly evil-synth majesty of "Nausea, the Earth, and Me" below.

Elder - Lore

Combining elements of stoner metal, krautrock, psych, and classic rock, Rhode Island's Elder have crafted an absolute monster of sound with their new album "Lore."  Listen to the blistering and epic title track below and absolutely grab the album from Armageddon Record Shop or Deathwish Inc.

Wovenhand

I had never heard of Denver band Wovenhand until about a month ago, just as snippets and tastes of the group's new album "Refractory Obdurate" were starting to surface on various blogs...and whoa, have i been missing out on something spectacular.  The band started as an offshoot of alt-country act 16 Horsepower, and have been churning out records for the last 13 years or so.  The band blends the aforementioned alt-country with gloomy folk, elements of ragged Americana, experimental metal, blues stomp, post, prog, and punk rock, and an old school vibe akin to channeling the Druids or ancient mystics.  In short, it's an absolutely amazing record.  Fans of Swans will be swimming in this...and you should too.  Get the album from Deathwish Inc, and listen to "Good Shepard" below.

Deafheaven

I love that shoegaze meets black metal is starting to become more of a thing.  It makes so much sense, that it's ridiculous it didn't start surfacing a long time ago (i realize that there may be some underground misfits that i've never heard of who were doing this sort of thing well before it was "cool").  Ugliness and beauty at deafening, blissful levels.  San Francisco trio Deafheaven will be releasing their "Sunbather" LP in June from Deathwish.  Everything i've heard sounds amazing.  Listen to first single "Dreamhouse" below.

Single Mothers

This actually came out a while ago, but one simply cannot ignore the high-energy post-hardcore punk that is Ontario's Single Mothers.  A coldness envelopes the whole thing (they are Canadian after all), a restless combination of foot stomping, head banging, and visible breath.  Listen to and download "Winter Coats" below and then go buy their 7" at Deathwish.

Cold Cave - People Are Poison

I've really been digging the industrial Depeche Mode worship of the latest jams from Wes Eisold's Cold Cave.  "People Are Poison" is the B-side from the recently released "Oceans with No End" 7" from Deathwish.  Listen below and check out the A-side over here.

Cold Cave

Wesley Eisold, aka Cold Cave, will be releasing a new EP, "Oceans with no End," via Deathwish Inc in the very near future.  Listen to the title track below, another exploration on the industrial, darkwave, synth-goth pastiche that has been (to my benefit) making a comeback of late.
