CS + Kreme

Man do i still miss Australian band Devastations.  The moody indie-rock trio disbanded in 2010, but their members still pop up from time to time on different projects, so i guess that will just have to do.  The latest is the upcoming new album from CS + Kreme, the CS being Conrad Standish of Devastations.  Along with Sam Karmel, the duo make experimental folk, drone, and noise.  Check out the beautifully quiet and somber "Corey" below and pre-order the upcoming new album "The Butterfly Drinks the Tears of the Tortoise" here from The Trilogy Tapes.

Daily Jam - Oh Me, Oh My

Power just came back on after going out in the middle of the night.  Surveying the damage from the ice storm so far, and we've got probably 20 big oak tree limbs that snapped under the weight of all the ice, splayed out on the driveway, the patio, and the yard.  Our front door is blocked.  One of the limbs pulled one of the gutters off of the side of the roof.  Another is on top of our basketball hoop.  Looking at it all is a tad overwhelming when i think of all the clean-up work i have in front of me.  Here's Devastations with "Oh Me, Oh My," our Daily Jam.

CS + Kreme

In the '00s, i was a big fan of Australian band Devastations.  They've been broken up for over a decade now, but i do my best to keep track of the former members and their current projects.  One of those former members is Conrad Standish, currently making strange music with fellow Aussie Sam Karmel as the experimental duo CS + Kreme.  It's hard to really pin down the sound the duo create, a hypnotic mix of electronic, folk, drone, ambient, and more.  New album "Orange" is out now.  Get it here from The Trilogy Tapes and listen to "Would You Like a Vampire" featuring vocals from UK folk singer Bridget St John below.

Daily Jam - Sex and Mayhem

Australian group Devastations only gave us a couple of albums before disbanding a decade ago, but man were those albums good.  Harnessing a somber, solemn, kind of Southern Gothic lament, the band traded in dark pop that sticks to your ribs and hums in your ears.  Listen to "Sex and Mayhem" below, our Daily Jam.

Standish/Carlyon

Conrad Standish and Tom Carlyon are members of the long silent moody Australian band Devastations (2008's "Yes U" is fantastic, part Nick Cave, part Tindersticks, part The National, all mixed together with a sexy groove), and the two are readying new album together of dark and warped electronica.  Listen to the pulsing "Subliminally" below and look for the "Deleted Scenes" LP from Felte later this month.
