Oklahoma City metal band Chat Pile are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands these days, their mix of black metal, emo, and grunge, along with their penchant for experimentation, just vibing with me in all the right ways.  September sees the release of new album "Who Loves the Sun."  Pre-order the LP here from The Flenser and listen to the crunchy "Deep Blue" below.

Chat Pile

Oklahoma hardcore punk/black metal/screamo band hybrid dropped a new 7" on Friday that i missed out on whilst working all weekend.  The A-side is a beast and the B-side is a cover of an old Nirvana song.  Check out both "Masks" and the "Sifting" cover below and download them here from Sub Pop (the vinyl is already sold out).

Chat Pile & Hayden Pedigo

In musical pairings i wasn't expecting to hear today, Oklahoma City noise rock/black metal/screamo band Chat Pile have teamed up with Amarillo folk and country artist Hayden Pedigo for the upcoming new album "In the Earth Again."  New tune "Radioactive Dreams" finds the artists exercising a more atmospheric sound of eerie, foreboding doom.  It's very cool.  Check it out below and pre-order the LP here from The Flenser.

Record Setter

Get your eardrums ready for new noise from Denton, Texas based hardcore punk band Record Setter.  The group's blend of screamo and punk is always good for thrashing around a bit, and new tune "Peace in a Memory" wails.  Check it out below and pre-order the "Evoke Invoke" EP here.

Infant Island

Fredericksburg, Virginia screamo band Infant Island have a new album coming out next week with "Obsidian Wreath."  The band's mix of emo, black metal, shoegaze, and post rock is very often just what the proverbial doctor ordered.  Check out the Greet Death assisted track "Kindling" below and grab the new album here from Secret Voice.

Sugar Horse

The first thing that caught my attention about Bristol band Sugar Horse was their cheeky song titles like "Fat Dracula," "Phil Spector in Hell," and "Shouting Judas at Bob Dylan."  The next thing was the sheer ferocity of the actual music, a blistering mix of screamo, hardcore punk, post metal, shoegaze, and avant garde weirdness.  It's intoxicating really.  I meant to sample a song or two and ended up listening to the new "The Live Long After" LP in its entirety.  And it rules.  Check out the aforementioned "Shouting Judas at Bob Dylan" below and get the album here from Small Pond.

Respire

As we've now arrived at the 9 month mark of a pandemic that we just spectacularly failed at getting under control, be it scientifically, governmentally, or culturally, and more and more people die to the sound of crickets, along comes a record that seems to hit my mood just right.  And so we have "Black Line," the latest release from Toronto's Respire.  The whole thing is a beautiful, intense, chaotic, and cathartic mix of black metal, screamo, and post rock and metal.  It's pretty much where my nerves are at these days.  Check out "Tempest" below and get the album here from Church Road Records.

Record Setter

Good ol' Denton, Texas.  The northern Texas college town has been pumping out great guitar rock bands for years, and one of the more recent arrivals is the melodic and chaotic Record Setter.  The four-piece make loud and noisy kind of emo or screamo or whatever you want to call it.  Good stuff.  Listen to "An Impression" below and get the new "I Owe You Nothing" LP here via Topshelf Records.
