Twin Sister - Bad Street

Dreamy, poppy Twin Sister have hooked up with Domino to release their debut full-length LP in September called "In Heaven" (we like the title). Listen to and download the first single, "Bad Street," below.

Black Lips on Daytrotter

The Black Lips recently recorded a session for Daytrotter. I love Black Lips. They do things like spit on their guitars and then let said spit drip back into their mouths. If you are or are not repulsed, check em out here. Garage rock is fun.

Blood Diamonds

Here's a new jammy-jam from Vancouver producer Blood Diamonds. "Grins" is kind of haunting and uplifting at the same time, like watching a sunset as storm clouds role in. The 7" is due next month from Transparent. Listen and download below.

She

Here's the video for Tyler, The Creator's "She." Some nefarious shenanigans are afoot in the township of Nilbog.

Adult Swim singles club 2011

Last year, Adult Swim offered up a free mp3 a week for the summer. New jams from Washed Out, Madvillain, Cults, and more kept the summer afloat. This week they kick off round 2 with a new song from Ford and Lopatin. That's super kewl. Get it here.

Summer Fest pics

Ah, an outdoor music festival in Houston in June...what could possibly go wrong? Not much really. Despite the 105 degree weather, the whole event was actually put together pretty well. Beer and bathroom lines were manageable, but really, when you're sweating as much as i was, are you really gonna pee all that much?

The bands were great. I was a little nervous about Ween for a minute just because you never know if you're going to get weirdo awesome Ween, or crappy jam band Ween. Opening with "Buckingham Green" was a good move. Bravo Weeners. Aside from that, Peelander Z were entertaining as always, Beirut, Health, and Weezer put on great shows, and Fucked Up were phenomenal as always.

See you next year H-Town. Here's some pics:

An open letter to Rick Perry and the 82nd Texas Legislature

Hey you! Yeah, you Texas government. How about taking a weekend off? I realize that there's still a lot of shit to do, special session and all, but really...how about taking the weekend off? You see, my wife has to work when you guys do, and we'd really like to get away for a couple of days to go see some bands and Houston. And i'm sure you've all got shit to take care of as well. Didn't you all work over Memorial Day weekend? Yeah, you did. So a take a break, and let my wife go see Peelander Z and Fucked Up. Because if i have to go sans Paige, that will make me a sad panda.

And i don't want to be a sad panda. I want to be a sweaty, buzzed, head-banging panda. And so does Paige.

Thank you for your time.

E*Rock and Moon Duo

Check out Moon Duo's remix of the E*Rock jam, "False Fortress." Here's what 20JFG had to say:

"Moon Duo’s remix of E*Rock’s False Fortress crawls into your space like a gloomy out-take from that undisclosed (and perchance made-up) Neubauten/Throbbing Gristle country collaboration before accelerating into Opa Loka at 45rpm/Finders Keepers dodgy Z series psychedelic erotica territory. The rhythm is perfectly synchronised with the upwards/downwards thrust of a ritual blade slashing into the fabric of reality to reveal all the sexual neuroses of that foolish New Age community that choose to locate its geodesic dome in the hallowed grounds of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary."

Pretty awesome.

Birds of Paradise (Dub version)

Here's a pretty cool video for Peaking Lights' "Birds of Paradise (Dub version). I guess summer has officially begun.

Mi Ami - Dolphins

Mi Ami used to be a noisy rock band, full of pulsing bass lines, shredding guitar screech, and thunder drums. But with "Dolphins," their latest effort from Thrill Jockey, now they're a synth-pop band, albeit a pretty good synth-pop band. So, groove into the summer with greatest play-on-words album title ever. Listen to the album below.
