Chicago instrumental duo Dead Bandit quietly released their new self-titled album of ambient-tinged post rock last week. With all the SXSW stuff going on, it kind of flew under the radar. Listen to "Lucien's Bitters" below and get the LP here from Quindi Records.
The last show i caught for this year's SXSW was kind of by accident. I was at local brewery ABGB (Austin Beer Garden Brewing) to catch Australian punk band Delivery and ended up at the indoor stage watching San Francisco funk and soul band Angelo Moore and The Brand New Step. I kept thinking that the lead singer looked familiar, and it finally dawned on me that he was the lead singer and saxophonist for '80s-'90s ska-punk band Fishbone. Far out. One of the best live acts i've seen for two SXSW's in a row now is New England garage rock band Perennial. Pure, unbridled energy. The band's new "Perennial '65" EP is out next month. Check out the bouncy title track below and pre-order the album here from Ernest Jenning Record Co.

Every year at SXSW i end up catching some shows from artists i've never heard of and know nothing about. And i enjoy them. That's really what the whole thing is all about. Anyway, one of the acts i caught last week that i went in blind for was the pop stylings of Utah artist Maz. Synths, groovy beats, and dancing lay ahead.
