Sunnbrella

Here's some techno, industrial, and shoegaze-laced pop rock from UK band Sunnbrella.  New album "Gutter Angel" is out next month.  Pre-order it here from Music Website and listen to "Have Your Say" below.

Dead Bandit

Chicago instrumental duo Dead Bandit quietly released their new self-titled album of ambient-tinged post rock last week.  With all the SXSW stuff going on, it kind of flew under the radar.  Listen to "Lucien's Bitters" below and get the LP here from Quindi Records.

Angelo Moore and The Brand New Step

The last show i caught for this year's SXSW was kind of by accident.  I was at local brewery ABGB (Austin Beer Garden Brewing) to catch Australian punk band Delivery and ended up at the indoor stage watching San Francisco funk and soul band Angelo Moore and The Brand New Step.  I kept thinking that the lead singer looked familiar, and it finally dawned on me that he was the lead singer and saxophonist for '80s-'90s ska-punk band Fishbone.  Far out.  Anyway, they had the whole place shaking.  Listen to the groovy, spacey "Los Angeles" below, a cut from new album "Perceptions," and buy the record from the band here.

Perennial

One of the best live acts i've seen for two SXSW's in a row now is New England garage rock band Perennial.  Pure, unbridled energy.  The band's new "Perennial '65" EP is out next month.  Check out the bouncy title track below and pre-order the album here from Ernest Jenning Record Co.

Daily Jam - Sing a Song for You

Feeling like some Tim Buckley this morning.  Here's the closing track from my favorite Buckley record.  Listen to "Sing a Song for You" below, our Daily Jam.

Black Lips

I really should get my ass to work, so i'll leave you for the day with a fun and excellent new track from long-running garage rock band Black Lips.  "Satan (I'm Tired of You)" is a country-fried garage explosion of Bible Belt sermons and punk rock sneering.  Check it out below and download it, along with B-side "The One," here from Fire Records.

NINA & Orazio

Fresh off her solo outing "Till the Devil Gets Bored" from last month, Bar Italia member Nina Cristante is back with new EP "Discordia," this time around paired up with fellow musician Orazio Argentero.  Alternative vibes abound.  Listen to the title track below and download the EP here.

Beak>

Before Geoff Barrow's impending departure from the band, UK krautrock and prog indebted trio Beak> just dropped their score to the documentary film "State of Silence."  Check out the ominous, tense, and ultimately harrowing opening track "SOS 1" below and download the whole thing here.

Dead Mint

Time for some moody, reverb-heavy licks from Nottingham stoner and death rock-tinged psych band Dead Mint.  The band's new self-titled album dropped last month, and it's a slow-chugging brain-melter.  Listen to album opening "Songlines" below and grab the LP here from the band.

Maz

Every year at SXSW i end up catching some shows from artists i've never heard of and know nothing about.  And i enjoy them.  That's really what the whole thing is all about.  Anyway, one of the acts i caught last week that i went in blind for was the pop stylings of Utah artist Maz.  Synths, groovy beats, and dancing lay ahead.  Check out "Kiss Kiss Boom" below and pre-order the "NPC" EP here from Winspear.
