Main Era
Boston band Main Era somehow manage to melt together every alternative rock subgenre from the last 40 years into one on their latest release, "IV of Wands." It's all there: grunge, shoegaze, post punk, post rock, slowcore, emo, screamo, math rock, etc., etc., etc. I believe i just found what i'll be jamming for the rest of the day. Check out "Double Dragon" below and snag a copy of the album on cassette or CD here from Disposable America.
Shapes Like People
UK husband and wife duo Shapes Like People are set to release a new album of shoegaze and jangle-tinged dreampop with the upcoming "Under the Rainbow." The record has an old school college radio vibe to it that gives me all the warm fuzzies. Listen to "Find Me There" below and pre-order the LP here from the band.
Daily Jam - Roland
Interpol's debut album "Turn on the Bright Lights" is one of those records that always astounds me as to how old it currently is. Like right now, it came out almost 24 years ago. Holy shit! Anyway, i still think it's an outstanding album start to finish. Here's a track from it. Listen to "Roland" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Heaven
It's freezing weather here in Central Texas for the next 48 hours or so, so i'm at home, bundled up, drinking coffee, watching college basketball, and pretty much doing a million other things to briefly distract myself from the state of things. Here's some music by The Psychedelic Furs to further the distraction. Listen to "Heaven" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Mr. November
It's probably not a popular opinion, by i think, that for the most part, the music of indie rock darlings The National is unbearably boring. That being said, they do have a couple of tracks that manage to get me to change my mind. Here's one of those non-boring ones. Listen to "Mr. November" below, our Daily Jam.

Magic Castles
Yesterday i posted some great and angry new hardcore punk out of Minneapolis. Today, i'm posting something a little more sweeping and dreamy for those days when the nazis are finally all gone. Check out "Abandoned Mansions" from psych pop band Magic Castles below and pre-order their upcoming new album "Realized" here from Fuzz Club Records.
Daily Jam - The Aeroplane Flies High (Turns Left, Looks Right)
I've probably said it before, but i'm not really that big on Smashing Pumpkins and never have been. There's also something about Billy Corgan that makes me want to punch him the face...continuously. That being said, there are still plenty of songs by the band that i have an affinity for. One of those is an excellent B-side from the "Mellon Collie" era, the practically oozing "The Aeroplane Flies High (Turns Left, Looks Right." Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Giallo
There's a lot of horrible shit going on in Minneapolis and the surrounding area right now. It's only right that some appropriately pissed off music is coming out of the city as well. Check out the latest from hardcore punk band Giallo from their upcoming new album "Tenebrarum." Listen to "Sleepwalking" below and pre-order the record here from the Convulse Records.
Daily Jam - Letom Redrum
French electronic duo Principles of Geometry's debut album finally got a vinyl release late last year. Here's hoping their sophomore effort "Lazare" gets the same. Here's a very Carpenter-esque track from that second record. Listen to "Letom Redrum" below, our Daily Jam.

The Cataract Pools
The sources from which i learn about or hear new music are vast and varied, and one of them is from this cat on Bluesky who seems to sniff out great shoegaze like some kind of reverb sensitive bloodhound. And so i'm spending a few minutes of my Sunday listening to the dreamy, ethereal sounds of St. Petersburg, Florida artist The Cataract Pools and the lush new track "Mirror of Truth." Wonderful stuff. Check it out below and download it here from the artist.
The Giraffe Told Me in My Dream
The wonderful and excellent named Taiwanese shoegaze band The Giraffe Told Me in My Dream just dropped a gorgeous new track yesterday with "æ•£æ¥." The song, whose title translates to "Stroll," sounds like a mix between My Bloody Valentine and something like This Mortal Coil, the combination of layered, reverbed guitars and dreamy synths playing together like symphonic heaven to the ears. Dig on the track below and download it here from the band.
Daily Jam - #3
In this humble blogger's opinion, there may not be a better Sunday morning album than Aphex Twin's "Selected Ambient Works Volume II," with the untitled track "#3" in particular giving my mind, body, an soul a certain feeling of Zen. Listen to the track below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Home Sweet Home
Some days it's hard to write this blog. There's just too much awful shit going on out there to feel anything good about writing an inconsequential music blog. But then i think that one of the reasons i compulsively post stuff here is the same reason i listen to music the way i do...to escape the harsh realities of life for just a brief moment or two. So i'll keep posting even as skies continue to darken, hoping for that silver lining to eventually break through the storm clouds. Here's some escapism, for me at least as the track takes me back to being a kid, from Motley Crue. Listen to "Home Sweet Home" below, our Daily Jam.
And in the event i haven't said it enough: Fuck ICE!

I really, really have to be in the right kind of mood to listen to ska, or ska-tinged punk, or ska-tinged anything for that matter. But i can dig on it every once in a blue moon. I guess today is that day because here's some ska-tinged punk from Rancid. Listen to "Time Bomb" below, our Daily Jam.

Pullman
Pullman was a collaborative post rock/slowcore band featuring members of Tortoise and Codeine among others. Did i say was? Because i meant is. The band is set to release their first new material in 25 years at the end of the week with their new album "III." Check out the breezy, meditative and yearning sounds of "Weightless" below and get the LP here from Western Vinyl.
Daily Jam - Time Trap
Last year, i finally got to see Built To Spill play live. They were great, but not perfect. Not perfect because they didn't play "Time Trap" from 1999's "Keep It Like a Secret." Maybe next time. In the meantime, let's listen below, our Daily Jam.
