Daily Jam - The Hunchback

It's been a spell since i've jammed some Kurt Vile around here, so here's a cut from "The Hunchback" EP he made with The Violators back in 2009.  Listen to the title track below, our Daily Jam.

Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile

I've got to be in the right mood to listen to Kurt Vile (though i do think he's great), and i've never really given Courtney Barnett much thought to be honest, but the two artists have made a record together, and from the first single, "Over Everything," it seems like a pairing that's long overdue.  The song is folky, spacey, stoner kind of jam, and i've got to admit i'm pretty into it.  Watch the persona-swapped video below and get the album from Milk! Records in October.

Kurt and Courtney...far out.

Hope Sandoval and The Warm Inventions and Kurt Vile

Mazzy Star singer Hope Sandoval has a new record coming out in November with her other band, The Warm Inventions.  The chanteuse's dreamy and dusty sound gets dreamier and dustier with first single "Let Me Get There," featuring some duet vocals from Kurt Vile.  It's a nice a hazy joint, and you can watch the video below.  And get the record from Tendril Tales.

Fun Fun Fun Fest 8: Day 1 pics

Oh Fun Fun Fun Fest, the fest that's so fun, they're literally giving a Twinkies away.  Day 1 was chilly and awesome with some notable highlights being the ridiculous covers medley performed by Mac DeMarco (snarky, snarky, snarky), Thee Oh Sees proving consistently that they are the best live band in the county, Johnny Marr performing some Smiths classics, Bill Callahan opening his set with a cover of "White Light, White Heat," and the aforementioned free Twinkies.  Check out some pics below.

Kurt Vile & Sore Eros

Years ago, Robert Robinson of Sore Eros was a member of Kurt Vile's Violators.  A lo-fi and mellow recording of the two performing a song called "Serum" has surfaced and will appear on the upcoming "Jamaica Plain" EP on Care in the Community Recordings.  Listen below.

Steve Gunn

Guitar virtuoso and member of Kurt Vile's Violators Steve Gunn has a new solo offering out this month.  "Time Off" is a swirling mix of guitars and drums, a set of pop/folk songs that feel more like jazz than anything else.  Remarkably calming work.  Listen to "Water Wheel" below and get the album from Paradise of Bachelors.

Kurt Vile

Check out the video for "Never Run Away" from the always dependable Kurt Vile's new album "Wakin on a Pretty Daze."  Dreamy, sun-drenched, sometimes folky guitar rock.  Nice stuff.  In the video, Vile receives a little help from his daughter.  Get the album from Matador.
