Mac DeMarco - I'll Be Home for Christmas

It's just two more days until Christmas.  Wild.  Here's Mac DeMarco doing a very Mac DeMarco version of Bing Crosby's "I'll Be Home for Christmas."  Check out the video below.

Mac DeMarco - One More Love Song

Who would have ever thought that beneath the irreverent, goofball exterior, there laid a somber, blue heart within Mac DeMarco?  New single "One More Love Song," from the artist's latest album "This Old Dog," is a wonderful ballad full of yearning and regret, and late night contemplation.  Watch the video below and get the record next week from Captured Tracks.

Mac DeMarco - This Old Dog

May is bringing us a new album from Mac DeMarco.  Title track "This Old Dog" sounds a little less quirky and whimsical than previous output from the artist, carrying a weary vibe.  Listen below and get the record from Captured Tracks.

Mac DeMarco - Passing Out Pieces

Irreverent lo-fi goofball Mac DeMarco has a new album of slurred pop songs due in April from Captured Tracks.  The addition of some synth to the zoned out mix is pretty intoxicating.  Listen to "Passing Out Pieces" from the upcoming "Salad Days" below.

Fun Fun Fun Fest 8: Day 1 pics

Oh Fun Fun Fun Fest, the fest that's so fun, they're literally giving a Twinkies away.  Day 1 was chilly and awesome with some notable highlights being the ridiculous covers medley performed by Mac DeMarco (snarky, snarky, snarky), Thee Oh Sees proving consistently that they are the best live band in the county, Johnny Marr performing some Smiths classics, Bill Callahan opening his set with a cover of "White Light, White Heat," and the aforementioned free Twinkies.  Check out some pics below.

Mac DeMarco

As is wont to occur upon occasion, i totally missed the bus on some awesome music last year.  Case in point, the wonderful album "2" by Mac DeMarco.  It wasn't until seeing his last week during SXSW that i realized what an egregious error i had made.  Trippy, folky jams that sound like Dean Ween tuning guitars for Ariel Pink, DeMarco's stuff has that "getting high with woodland creatures" feel that not too many people can produce.  At times he ventures into stoned Tom Petty territory, but it totally works.  Listen to "Ode to Viceroy" below and get the record from Captured Tracks.

SXSW day 1 pics

And we're off.  I drank too much today.  Free beer + hanging out with one of my oldest friends in the world generally gets us both in trouble.  We did manage to catch some great music though, courtesy of Consequence of Sound.  Check out the pics below.

In the evening, we caught a little bit of a different show that was supposed to include a performance from Jandek, but he cancelled last minute, which made me a sad panda.  The synth-goth of Troller made up for it though.
