September brings us a new album from Baltimore act Lower Dens, their first if four years. The band's Jana Hunter is calling "The Competition" LP a pop record, and judging from the darkened synth pop groove of first single "Young Republicans," i'd say he's correct. Check out the video for the song below and get the record from Ribbon Music.

John Maus - Episode
Last year, John Maus released the excellent "Screen Memories" LP and announced an upcoming vinyl box set featuring his entire discography along with an album of rarities and unheard material, appropriately titled "Addendum." I'm a sucker for Maus's synthy, lo-fi weirdness, so new music from the artist is always welcome news. Listen to "Episode" below, and get the album later this month on Ribbon Music.

John Maus - The Combine
He had hinted at new music on the way, and now we know that John Maus's new album "Screen Memories" will be out at the end of October on Ribbon Music. Hooray! Anyway, check out the lo-fi, psychedelic video for "The Combine" below, a dark and synthy song about getting chopped up by a combine harvester. Sweet.

Lower Dens
Here's the latest from Lower Dens, "To Die in LA," a synthy, dreamy take on the band's signature krautrock noodlings from their upcoming album, "Escape from Evil," due in March on Ribbon Music. Jana Hunter sounds as dour and heartbroken as usual. Listen below.
