The Field

The Field.  Now that's a name i haven't thought about in a long, long time.  The Berlin-based electronic artist crafts dreamy, techno soundscapes for coffee shop mornings and quiet drives at night.  New album "Now You Exist" came out a couple weeks ago on Studio Barnhus.  Get the LP here and listen to the airy and chilled out "In Our Dreams" below.

Daily Jam - Sunset (Bird of Prey)

I kind of forget how ubiquitous the music of Fatboy Slim was at the turn of the century (it sounds weird to say that, but it is what it is).  So much so, that i pretty much memory hole all of it until i per chance hear a track.  And then it all comes flooding back like so much Christopher Walken dancing.  Anyway, my favorite was always the sleek and dreamy "Sunset (Bird of Prey)," that Jim Morrison sample just getting under my skin.  Check the track out below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Little Fluffy Clouds

“What were the skies like when you were young?”

Some weeks it’s harder to write than others. Some weeks I struggle for things to say. Some weeks it feels like grasping at proverbial straws to find anything even remotely poignant to write about all of these songs that I love so much, or at the very least to come up with some personal anecdote to convey my evergreen adulation thereof.

And you know, maybe that actually works in favor for The Orb’s “Little Fluffy Clouds,” the mind-frying jam from the English electronic duo’s 1991 album The Orb’s Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld.

I was probably in high school when I heard the song for the first time, early ‘90s club music being well beyond my grasp or interest when I was in middle school, but it really wasn’t until college that the song worked its way into my own personal heavy rotation, most likely the result of the then prevalent electronica scene that never quite became the next big thing and…um…chemicals.

30+ years on, the song is still a heaping cut of sonic goo, the fluttered synth effects massaging and buttering my brain while the Rickie Lee Jones vocal sample transports my psyche to some surreal desert landscape where the sky burns.

So yeah…chemicals.

Fort Romeau

Here's the latest from Berlin based electronic artist Fort Romeau.  "Be With U" floats with a chilled groove, a kind of after-hours, come-down house track.  Very mellow.  Very cool.  Check it out below and download it here from Cin Cin Records.

Braxe + Falcon + Panda Bear

French electronic duo Braxe + Falcon have teamed with Animal Collective's Panda Bear on their upcoming "Step By Step" EP.  The title track finds the trio channeling the most chilled out of yacht rock vibes for a perfect summer jam.  Check it out below and pre-order the 12" here from Smugglers Way.

Daily Jam - Love Theme from House

If you've never seen the 1977 Japanese film "House," or "Hausu," i implore you to check out that weirdness at your earliest convenience.  I don't even want to try to explain it, but it's wild.  And the soundtrack by Asei Kobayashi, Micky Yoshino and Godiego matches the film's vibes entirely, bits of jazz and pop, folk and blues, and more swirling like a kaleidoscope.  Check out classical pop of "Love Theme" below, our Daily Jam.

It's Sunday, and i'm trying to reconcile my love of football with my disdain for its internal politics that ostracizes its more socially political members and, you know, covers up that whole brain injury thing.  Anyway, here's some cinematic synth music from London's Om Unit.  "Out of the Shadows" has kind of a Vangelis feel to it, with some house beats on the back side.  Listen below and pre-order the "Self" LP here, from Cosmic Bridge Records.

Ode To The Explorers

Parsec is a new record label out of Italy that specializes in experimental, ambient, and deep house electronic music.  Their introductory EP, "Ode To The Explorers" features four artists i had never heard of (Berserk, VDG, Ablaze, and buMMer respectively) who offer up some tunes inspired by the Apollo 11 mission.  Listen below.

Ross From Friends

Here's a chilled, little R&B-ish house jam from Ross From Friends called "Talk to Me, You'll Understand" from the upcoming "You'll Understand" EP from Lobster Theremin.  It's too bad it's not actually David Schwimmer making this music, as that would make me giggle.  Listen below and get the 12" here.
