Pyrex

And now for some good, old fashioned noisy hardcore punk from New York trio Pyrex.  Listen to the blistering "Slugman" below and get the "Slugman" 7" here from La Vida Es Un Discos.  Good night everybody.

Daily Jam - Lines

There are currently a half dozen 12-year old boys making all kinds of noise upstairs for a birthday party sleepover.  Maybe you know this and may you don't, but 12-year old boys are...real weird.  Anyway, i'm just gonna listen to some music from The Walker Brothers while i reconsider some choices tonight.  Listen to "Lines" below, our Daily Jam.

Sungaze

Here's a new one from Cincinnati alt-rock band Sungaze.  Shoegaze and grunge swirl and smash together on new single "Shadows" to wonderful and echoed effect.  Check the track out below and download it here from the band.

Kitten Paws

Here's some nice and crunchy lo-fi shoegaze from Sweden's Kitten Paws.  Dig on the fuzz of "Ett Poem" below and download the new "I Rymden Kan Ingen Hora Din Fuzz" EP here.

Friday Horror Trailer - Houseboat Horror

Daily Jam - Around & Around

Sometimes, i believe that Japanese bands aping western style music genres actually sound more like the genre their emulating than the American or British bands that inspired them.  Kind of like how caricatured drawings look more like a person than they actually do.  Case in point is the psych pop-tinged garage rock sounds of '60s Japanese band The Spiders.  Check out the raucous "Around & Around" below for the proof in the proverbial pudding, our Daily Jam.

Sparks

Somehow i had no idea that we were getting a new album from Sparks this month.  I guess i really shouldn't have been surprised as the legendary Brothers Mael have been releasing albums steadily since 1972.  Over 50 years later, and they haven't lost a step.  New album "MAD!" is out now.  Listen to "A Little Bit of Light Banter" below and snag the LP here from Transgressive.

Safe Mind

Safe Mind is the side project of Boy Harsher member Augustus Muller with Lucy (Cooper B. Handy).  Upcoming new album "Cutting the Stone" is a nice little piece of electronic pop, dreamy throwback guitar tones, and sweet, sugary synths.  Listen to "Standing on Air" below and pre-order the LP here from Nude Club Records.

they are gutting a body of water

I saw Philly band they are gutting a body of water last year at SXSW, and while their penchant for setting up on the floor in front of the stage and playing with their backs to the audience was annoying and off-putting (come on guys, this shit was played out 40 years ago), there was no mistaking the band's unique sound, a blend of lo-fi bedroom pop, shoegaze, noise, and more.  They just dropped new tune "American Food" a few days ago.  Check it out below and download it here from ATO.

Wombo

Louisville, Kentucky trio Wombo make post-punk-tinged indie rock, the kind that gets many a pop music writer salivating.  Their sound is, in my opinion, not half bad.  New album "Danger in Fives" is out in August.  Pre-order the LP here from Fire Talk and listen to the title track below, one of those tunes that will resurface in your mind again and again.

The Diasonics

Bring on the library funk grooves with the latest release from Moscow group The Diasonics.  The "Ornithology" LP drops in August.  Pre-order it here from Record Kicks and listen to the Eastern disco bump of "Oriole" below.

W. Cullen Hart & Andrew Rieger

Way back at the turn of the century (nothing to see here, just feeling old), fellow Elephant 6 members Will Cullen Hart (Olivia Tremor Control) and Andrew Rieger (Elf Power) were roommates and recorded a one-off EP called "Leap Through Poisoned Air" that's finally seeing the light of day some 25 years later.  It's a perfect combination of the two artists' lo-fi psychedelic pop sounds.  Pay tribute to the late, great Cullen Hart by listening to "Treasures in the Magic Hole" below and pre-order the upcoming 10" release here or here from Orange Twin Records.

Daily Jam - Which Side Are You On, Colonel?

Here's a fairly obscure track from the great indie rock band Quasi.  "Which Side Are You On, Colonel?" was featured on the weird and wonderful compilation concept album "Colonel Jeffrey Pumpernickel" from the early '00s that included contributions from a bunch of great artists.  Check the track out below, our Daily Jam.

Slow Crush

Belgian heavy shoegaze band Slow Crush are back with more eardrum rattling reverb to blast our brains across the cosmic heavens.  New album "Thirst" is out in August.  Get it here from Pure Noise Records and listen to the gorgeous title track below.

Sugar For The Pill

Athens, Greece coming at us with the dreamy shoegaze jams from alt-rock 5-piece Sugar For The Pill.  The band's new album "LUV" is out now.  Order the LP here and listen to the lush and beautiful title track below.

WOW

Italian band WOW makes a weird and wonderful mix of world music, ambient drone, and psychedelia all with a cinematic flourish.  New album "Rosa di Luce" is out next month on Maple Death Records.  Pre-order the LP here and listen to somber and exotic "Le Montagne e Noi" below.

Daily Jam - Don't Let Him Come Back

Here's a classic from the late, great Jay Reatard.  Listen to "Don't Let Him Come Back" below, our Daily Jam.

Gazella

Summer is here, so here's some blissed out and dreamy synth pop from Barcelona's Gazella and their new album "Vias."  Listen to wistful "Volver" below and get the LP here from Foehn Records.

Daily Jam - (I Don't Want to Go to) Chelsea

The first day back to work after a long weekend is always busy as hell.  I'm only now getting a chance to post some music online.  Here's a cut from Elvis Costello.  Listen to "(I Don't Want to Go to) Chelsea" below, our Daily Jam.

Sorry...

Beginning with a sample of Winona Ryder, "Your Smile Is Killing Me," the first single from Athens, Greece artist Sorry...'s upcoming album "Fragile," sets the proverbial tone of what is to follow.  The track is a mix of gothy death rock, black metal vocal wailing, post punk, and an overall lo-fi aesthetic that feels raw and anguished.  Or to put things more bluntly, it fucking rules.  Check the track out below and pre-order the album here from the artist.

Night Tapes

Estonian dreampop trio Night Tapes are set to drop their new album "Portals//Polarities" in September on Nettwerk.  Listen to the dancey, dreamy "Television" below and pre-order the album here.

Kutiman

Here's some new, chilled out, Eastern, cinematic grooves from multi-instrumentalist, producer, and orchestra leader Kutiman.  Upcoming new EP "Dreams in Aspamia" is out in July.  Pre-order it here from Kartel Music Group and listen to "So Long Stay Safe" below.

The Natural Yogurt Band

And here we have some new library sounds from UK outfit The Natural Yogurt Band.  Dig on the blend of jazz, funk, soul, and psych of new tune "Rufus" below and pre-order the group's upcoming new album "PARASOL" here from Sonor Music Editions.

Menow

I saw Japanese duo Menow described as slowcore acid folk.  That description certainly piqued my interest, but i don't know if i really hear that in earnest.  On new single "月の約束 (Tsukinoyakusoku)," i hear more of a Japanese pop meets lo-fi bedroom indie rock thing going on.  Either way, it's fucking great.  Listen to the track below and snag the new "白 ~haku ~ " 7" here from Galaxy Train.

Turtle Skull

Sydney, Australia's Turtle Skull brings the stoner vibes and doom pop on their new psychedelic "Being Here" album.  Somehow or another, the band manages to smash together sunshine harmonies and doom riffs.  Dig on the album opening title track below and get the LP here from Art As Catharsis.

Chairs

Here's a dreamy and hazy new track from Athens, Georgia band Chairs taken from their new split single with fellow dream purveyors Miracle House.  Listen to the instrumental "Ruins" below and download the single here from Primordial Void.

Sun Parker

Last month, Ontario artist Sun Parker released the beautiful track "Swan," which has managed to work its way into my psyche over the last few weeks.  This week, the artist follows it up with "The Lock," another hushed and soothing bit of acoustic haze.  Dig on the track below and download it here.

The Laughing Chimes - High Beams (Dead End Mix)

Earlier this year, Athens, Ohio band The Laughing Chimes released one of my favorite records of the year with "Whispers in the Speech Machine."  This week, they dropped an alternate mix of one of the tracks from that album.  I might prefer this version, which plays more like a noisy post punk track than the jangle pop of the original.  Listen to "High Beams (Dead End Mix)" below and download it here from Slumberland Records.

Daily Jam - Don't Look Back in Anger

As far as '90s Britpop is concerned, i was always Team Blur...or Team Pulp...or Team Suede.  Outside of 1994's "Definitely Maybe," Oasis just never really did it for me.  I didn't dislike them or anything.  They were still better than probably 90% of other popular music out there.  I just preferred the other 3 (these 4 bands being the proverbial "Big 4" of Britpop).  It is hard not to like "Don't Look Back in Anger" though.  So here it is, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - The Whole Shebang

I kind of wish we'd have a good glam rock revival like was flirted with in the late '90s.  I want what "Velvet Goldmine" promised.  Anyway, here's LA alt-rock band Grant Lee Buffalo channeling that 1970s glam pop aesthetic to wondrous effect on "The Whole Shebang."  Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Radio Cure

Hitting the road shortly to head north to the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area for a horror convention.  If all goes to plan, i should be meeting both Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton this afternoon.  In the meantime, here's a track from Wilco's much loved "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot."  Listen to "Radio Cure" below, our Daily Jam.

Natalie Bergman

Chicago artist Natalie Bergman makes a wonderful style of indie pop that pulls from singer/songwriter folk, '60s R&B, psych pop, soul, and country.  Her new album "My Home Is Not in this World" is out in July.  Pre-order the LP here from Third Man Records and watch the video for "Dance" below.

Friday Horror Trailer - Demonia

Daily Jam - Devil Heart

I've still got 6 hours of work ahead of me, but let's kick off this 3-day weekend with some good old Doug Sahm.  Listen to the Texas artist's "Devil Heart" below, a bluesy, country-rock honky-tonk stomper, and our Daily Jam.

Deary

UK shoegazey dreampop (or is it dreampoppy shoegaze?) duo Deary dropped a new tune today, along with a pre-order for their upcoming "I Still Think About You / No Ordinary Love" 7".  As per usual with Deary, the record was already sold out by the time i saw the announcement this morning at 5:30AM.  That's just the way it goes i guess.  Anyway, that B-side is indeed a cover of the Sade song, but for the meanwhile, check out the A-side below and pre-order the download here from Sonic Cathedral.

Golomb

I caught a set from Ohio trio Golomb back in March during SXSW and really dug the band's old school, noisy alt-rock sound.  New album "The Beat Goes On" drops in July.  Pre-order it here from No Quarter and listen to first single "Real Power" below.

Lightheaded

Here's some sweet, bubblegum, lo-fi jangle pop from Jersey band Lightheaded and their upcoming new album "Thinking, Dreaming, Scheming!"  Listen to the brief but wonderful bedroom pop of "The View from Your Room" below and pre-order the LP here from Slumberland Records.

Daily Jam - The Championship

Every morning, i wake up and doom scroll for a few minutes online to a veritable mountain of bad news and endless horrible shit.  Why do i do this to my mental health you ask?  I have no idea.  But it's taking its toll, and somedays, only listening to something full of love, hope, and joy, like The Polyphonic Spree, can shake me from doom scrolling's accompanying doom spiral, if only for a few moments.  Today is that day.  Listen to "The Championship" below, our Daily Jam.

düül suns

New York's düül suns have a really cool proggy psych vibe going on new single "Jealousy," and i am here for it.  Dig on the track below and download it here.

Web Web

Germany's Web Web go old school krautrock and spacey psychedelia on their new album "Plexus Plexus," and right from the opening seconds too.  Smear your brain across the cosmos with album intro "Apotheosis" below and get it here from Compost Records.

Daphne's Demise

On new EP "The Heart Is a Garden," Canadian artist Daphne's Demise makes a sweet and melancholy mix of hazy pop, alt-country, and psychedelia.  Listen to the excellent "Canyon of Love" below and download the whole EP here from the artist.

Romance

I'm not quite sure how to describe the music of UK artist Romance's upcoming new album "Love Is Colder than Death."  Experimental?  Ambient?  Minimalist?  Yes, it's all of these things, but going by opening track "Too Much Love," it sounds like the soundtrack to some Lynchian nightmare, and kind of ambient Noir that's both haunting and entrancing.  Check it out below and pre-order the download here from ECSTATIC (the vinyl is already sold out).

DIIV

Earlier this week, indie band DIIV dropped fantastic new track "Return of Youth."  I remember seeing these guys over a decade ago when they looked like kids and were still calling themselves just regular old Dive.  It's wild which artists are still making music together all these years later.  Listen to the new tune below and download it here from Fantasy Records.

Daily Jam - That's When I Reach for My Revolver

I'm sure i'm not the only one, especially for people my age, but i came to Boston punk band Mission of Burma by way of Moby and his cover of the band's "That's When I Reach for My Revolver."  And i'm glad i did...so...thanks Moby.  Listen to the original version of the tune below, our Daily Jam.

Black Lips

Fresh off of March's country stomp jammer "Satan (I'm Tired of You)," long running Atlanta garage rock band the Black Lips are back with another new tune with "Wild One."  The track combines western vibes with old spacey synth sounds and outlaw pastiche.  It kicks ass.  Check it out below and download it here from Fire Records.

Matt Jencik & Midwife

Colorado-based artist Midwife keeps busy prolific with a seemingly constant string of releases both on her own and collaborative.  The latest collaboration is with Matt Jencik of Don Caballero fame, and "Delete Key," our first taste of the upcoming "Never Die" LP, is a moody, droning dream.  Check it out below and pre-order the album here from Relapse.

Winter

Formerly LA-based pop rock artist Winter heads east for the debut of her upcoming new album "Adult Romantix."  Now residing in New York, the artist's blend of alt-rock and dreampop remains intact, sweet sonic candy for the daydream set.  Listen to the rocking new track "Just Like a Flower" below and pre-order the album here from Winspear.

Suede

It's kinda wild to think that the original run of Suede (or The London Suede if ya nasty) ran for 5 albums, and now in September, the reunited version will hit its 5th release as well.  They still got it.  Pre-order "Antidepressants" here and listen to first single "Disintegrate" below.

Daily Jam - Hazel

Here's an awesome track from the short-lived '90s Swedish emo band Far Apart.  Listen to "Hazel" below, our Daily Jam.

Swimming Bell

On the new "Somnia" EP, New York artist Swimming Bell (Katie Schottland) makes a dreamy mix of folk and soft rock that she describes as "the feeling of sinking into water, where everything is softened and suspended."  Right on.  Dig on the chilled out vibes of "Meet My Shadow" below and get the cassette here.
