And we've got ourselves some brand new music from LA psych and garage rock band Hooveriii.  New tune "Westside Pavilion of Dreams" plays like an arena rock anthem, so be sure to mix it into your weekend plans.  Check it out below and pre-order the upcoming "Manhunter" album here or here (vinyl) from The Reverberation Appreciation Society and Levitation.

Friday Horror Trailer - Stanley

Daily Jam - The Spark that Bled

The Flaming Lips' 1999 album "The Soft Bulletin" has always moved me, it's loose story of scientists trying to save the world but ultimately failing as a metaphor for losing a loved one to illness striking a particular nerve in my heart soul, even before my father died from cancer.  Despite the heavy content, there are plenty of moments of levity and quirkiness, this being a Flaming Lips record after all, that by contrast make the sadder moments all the more devastating.  To me at least.  One of those is shift in tone towards the end of "The Spark that Bled" with Wayne Coyne lamenting that "in reality there was no reaction."  That line kills me.  Every time.  Going on a quarter of a century now.  Check it out for yourself below, our Daily Jam.

Backxwash

Easily one of my favorite rap artists to emerge over the last decade, Canada's Backxwash raps with a kind of inner turmoil, angst, and almost utter despair that is totally unmatched.  Her delivery is angry and urgent, as it should be, coming from dark places and possibly even darker futures, mixing in elements of heavy metal, industrial, post rock, and drone for the complete effect.  New album "Only Dust Remains" is out next month.  Pre-order it here and listen to the excellent new single "9th Heaven" below.

Satomimagae

Japanese artist Satomimagae just announced her upcoming new album "Taba," heading our way in April.  New single "Many" is a gentle and wistful piece of electronic folk, the sounds of watching the universe from your bedroom window.  Check it out below and pre-order the new LP here from RVNG Intl.

Léonie Pernet

Here's some new electro-pop from Paris based artist Léonie Pernet.  Dig on the dancey, moody synths of "Paris-Brazzaville" below and download the new single here from InFine.

Daily Jam - Good Day Today

Since his passing last month, i've decided to watch as much of the complete filmography of David Lynch as i can find: shorts, films, TV, commercials, videos, concerts, etc.  Guess i should probably listen to his musical releases as well.  Here's the electronic single "Good Day Today" from 2010.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Pyramids

Weird.  I just posted an old track from Denton band Pyramids a couple of days ago and pined that i did not know if they were even together anymore.  And now lo and behold, they just announced a new album, their first in a decade, with the upcoming "Pythagoras" LP on The Flenser.  A combination of noise rock, black metal, shoegaze, post rock, and electronic pop, first single "Fools Gold (Mi Vida Ha Ido Pa Altras)" plays like a hazy dream, sunrays blurring behind a vast ocean, pinks and blues.  Check it out below and pre-order the album here.

Sungaze

Cincinnati band Sungaze have been kicking it around for a few years, infusing a little bit of dusty Americana into their particular brand of shoegaze pop.  New track "House on the Hill" dropped yesterday, and it's lovely.  Check it out below and download it here from the band.

Mint Tea

Here's some lush and airy dreampop from Moscow band Mint Tea.  New tune "Spring Is Coming Soon" plays like a proclamation to its title, the sun rising and fields of green grass.  Check it out below and download it here from the band.

Daily Jam - Laughing Stock

Grandaddy is one of those bands that will always be tied to certain point in my life...in this case it's college and working as a deejay for the college radio station.  Here's a track from their 1997 album "Under the Western Freeway."  Listen to "Laughing Stock" below, our Daily Jam.

Ora Cogan

Here's some strange and dreamy, synth and string laden psych folk from Ora Cogan.  New tune "LUCILE" sounds like some kind of ethereal hallucination, walking through an enchanted forest in a dream.  Check it out below and pre-order the "Bury Me" EP on 7" here from the artist.

Model/Actriz

Looks like we've got new music heading our way in May from Brooklyn industrial-tinged post punk band Model/Actriz.  These guys stole the show a couple of years back at SXSW, putting on an energetic live show worthy of the hype it received around Austin.  Check out new tune "Cinderella" below and pre-order the upcoming "Pirouette" LP here from True Panther.

Daily Jam - Soon

It's time for some My Bloody Valentine.  We might not deserve it, but we certainly need it.  Here's "Soon," our Daily Jam.

MERVE

MERVE is Merve Daşdemir, former member and singer of the excellent Dutch-Turkish psych and Anatolian rock band Altin Gün.  Her debut solo effort is the funky, disco-tinged synth pop nugget "Platonik."  Check it out below and download it here.

NINA

NINA is the solo project of Nina Cristante of UK post punk band bar italia.  The artist's latest is the positively divine and sultry "Till the Devil Gets Bored."  It sounds like something that might play during last call at a seedy road house or honky tonk.  Dig on it below and download it here from the artist.

Heavy Meddo

I feel it's only right to post about the other side of that split 7" with Queen Serene, so here's Heavy Meddo.  The Bill Baird (Sound Team) fronted project makes grooving, motorik, krautrock-tinged psych magic on "La Mer."  Check it out below and get that record here.

Queen Serene

Here's some jangly garage rock from Austin band Queen Serene.  New single "Glitter Disco" is a fuzzy little earworm that plays perfectly on a sunny day.  Listen to it below and grab the split 7" with fellow Austin band Heavy Meddo here.

Daily Jam - Through My Eyes

I used to discover a lot of old music through movie soundtracks, like learning about '60s UK garage and psych rock band The Creation through Wes Anderson's "Rushmore" and its use of the band's "Making Time."  That song is rad, and it turns out most of the band's output follows suit.  Here's a cut from their debut album.  Listen to "Through My Eyes" below, our Daily Jam.

Cigarettes For Breakfast

Here's some excellent new shoegaze from Philly band Cigarettes For Breakfast.  The band's new album "Slow Motion" just dropped on Friday.  Get it here and listen to "Numb the Pain" below.

Daily Jam - E-Bow the Letter

I go through phases constantly where i'll get really into the back catalog of a band or artist: a Led Zeppelin era, a Prince era, a T. Rex era, etc.  And i believe i am starting to get into my R.E.M. era.  It wouldn't be the first time.  Here's a cut from the band's fantastic 1996 album "New Adventures in Hi-Fi" featuring the wonderful Patti Smith on backing vocals.  Listen to "E-Bow the Letter" below, our Daily Jam.

Masma Dream World

I'm about to go to a 3rd grade flag football game, and this probably isn't the kind of thing i should be listening to to pump anyone else.  But i'm utterly entranced by the strange and exotic tones of Masma Dream World.  Subdues and droning synths play along side echoey chanted vocals and plenty of dark ambience.  It feels like it's conjuring something from deep within the bowels of the earth or the outer stretches of the universe.  Endless.  Listen to "Please Come to Me" below and pre-order the LP of same name here from The Control Group / Valley of Search.

Daily Jam - Runnin' with the Devil

To me, "Runnin' with the Devil," the opening track of Van Halen's debut album, plays like a mission statement...or at least a mission statement for the David Lee Roth era...the best era.  Listen to it below, our Daily Jam.

Ghost Bath

Been a fan of Ghost Bath since 2015's "Moonlover," and the black metal band just announced new record "Rose Thorn Necklace" this morning.  Hooray!  Check out the title track below and pre-order the album here or here (vinyl) from Nuclear Blast.

Friday Horror Trailer - Day of the Dead

Daily Jam - Digitalis

It's Friday.  It feels like a good time for some proggy synths.  Here's Zombi with "Digitalis," our Daily Jam.

White Beast

Here's a crunchy new track from Virginia band White Beast.  "Servant" has a kind of stoner metal meets proto-grunge vibe for the inner dirtbag inside you.  Give it a listen below and download it here from the band.

Daily Jam - Little Dipper

You gotta love those spacey guitar tones of Hum.  They manage to sound a little shoegaze, a little grunge, and a little space rock all at the same time.  Here's "Little Dipper," our Daily Jam.

Maria Somerville

This morning, Irish artist Maria Somerville announced her upcoming new album "Luster," much to the delight of yours truly.  I'm a big fan of the hushed drone and folk of 2019's "All My People," and the added dreamy synth atmospherics preset on new tune "Garden" hit just right.  Check the track out below and pre-order the LP here from 4AD.

Ruth Radelet, Adam Miller, and Nat Walker

I'm not really big on video games.  Sure, i played my fair share growing up, from arcades to Atari to Nintendo, Sega, Playstation, XBox, and beyond.  But it's never really been my thing.  If there's something else to do, i'll choose that instead every time.  Also, over the last decade, i've come to abhor the kind of people who refer to themselves as gamers.  I find there to be more toxicity in that particular brand of fandom than pretty much anywhere else.  Incel nation and whatnot.

All that aside, there's something to be said for the soundtracks that have come out of video games since...forever really.  The old 8-bit Nintendo music (which i love by the way) gave way to ambient music and synth wave (which i also love), on to actual scores and soundtracks to rival any film at your local cineplex.

Which brings us to a game called "Lost Records: Bloom & Rage" and it's accompanying soundtrack featuring alt-rock group Nora Kelly Band, electronic artist Milk & Bone, and former Chromatics members Ruth Radelet, Adam Miller, and Nat Walker making music together again for the first time since the band's dissolvement.

Until listening, i kind of forgot how much i missed the dreamy synth pop of Chromatics, but "Dreamers," "The Wild Unknown," and "A Place Like Home" bring it all back.  It's wistful and lovely.

Check out all three new tunes from the trio below and download them here or pre-order the vinyl here from Kid Katana Records.

Pink Must

Brooklyn duo Mari Maurice Rubio and Lynn Avery are Pink Must.  The band's debut self-titled album of weird bedroom alt-rock is out later this month.  Pre-order it here from 15 Love and listen to the quite wonderful track "Karaoke of the Bends" below.

Carrellee

And now for some moody synth pop from Madison, Wisconsin's Carrellee.  The artist's new self-titled album is out in May.  Pre-order the LP here and listen to the slinky, dreamy "Your Touch Kills Me" below.

Set Dressing

Mandy, Indiana member Scott Fair is going solo for a bit with new project Set Dressing.  Our first taste is the ominous and haunting instrumental "Class Valedictorian."  Give it a listen below and download it here from Fire Talk.

Triathalon

May brings us new music from New York shoegaze-tinged alt-rock band Triathalon.  Pre-order the "Funeral Music" LP here from Lex Records and listen to "RIP" below.

Cindy Cane

Here's some new lo-fi darkwave synth pop and death rock from New York's Cindy Cane.  Caught the artist a couple of times 6 years ago and SXSW and they put on a great show.  Here's hoping for another Central Texas appearance before too long.  Listen to "Hearts on Fire" below and download it here.

Malevil

I came across French duo Malevil a couple of weeks ago with their homage/tribute to Angelo Badalamenti "Le Sel."  The duo's new track "Les Plaies" traverses in more of an electronic vein, but keeps the cinematic vibe and grandeur.  Check it out below and pre-order the upcoming "Tue L'amour" album here from Stellar Frequencies and Urgence Disk.

Akira Galaxy

Fresh off of here recent cover of The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony," LA dreampop artist Akira Galaxy is back with glittery new single "Hit the Ground."  Check it out below and download it here from Bright Antenna Records.

BIG|BRAVE

Montreal band BIG|BRAVE make a mix of metal and Americana that is uniquely their own.  On new album "OST," the trio drops all of that for something much more improvisational and avant garde.  The whole thing plays out like some kind of minimalist film score that's both foreboding and surreal.  Listen to "innominate Nº ii" below and pre-order the upcoming LP here from Thrill Jockey.

Daily Jam - Sleds

I don't know if Denton band Pyramids are around anymore (their last release was in 2015), but i still love their 2008 self-titled effort.  Here's the noisy yet serene and beautiful "Sleds."  Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Sophia Djebel Rose

And now for the desolate, dark folk sounds of French artist Sophia Djebel Rose.  New album "Sécheresse" blends elements of folk, drone, dark ambient, and metal into a stark, moody, yet cinematic opus.  Check out "Pareille au Torrent" below and get the LP here from the artist.

Daily Jam - Here, There and Everywhere

Here's a classic from The Beatles.  Listen to "Here, There and Everywhere" below, our Daily Jam.

copperplate

I feel like springtime music should be forthcoming, and maybe that's because it's cool and bright and sunny outside right now.  And while we've got some gloom and sub-freezing temperatures heading our way in the next 48 hours, i'm going to dig on the springtime vibes of Georgia artist copperplate.  Listen to the hazy dreampop of "Homing Instinct" below and pre-order the upcoming self-titled album here or here (vinyl).

Daily Jam - The City Life

I am a sucker for Italian soundtrack music from the '60s and 70's, so here's a psych tinged folk pop track from Italian composer Piero Umiliani's score to the 1969 film "Angeli Bianchi....Angeli Neri," AKA "Witchcraft '70."  Listen to "The City Life" below, our Daily Jam.

Sticking with the lo-fi vibes and weird and warbled bedroom pop this afternoon with the latest from New York artist Winter & Hooky.  Listen to "Horseshoe" below and snag the "Water Season" EP cassette here from Julia's War Recordings.

Nowhere Flower

Nowhere Flower is the project of Portland artist and multi-instrumentalist Lila Jarzombek.  New album "Heat Dome" is out next month.  Pre-order it here from Digital Regress and dig on the warbled lo-fi bedroom pop of the title track below.

Daily Jam - The Message

Cymande's 1972 self-titled album has been on my "to-attain list" for a long while, but as of yet, i have been unable to find one in decent enough shape for a price i'm willing to pay.  But someday.  Someday these funky rhythms will spin on my turntable.  Listen to "The Message" below, our Daily Jam.

The Altons

I know Valentine's Day was yesterday, but here's some slinky throwback soul, R&B, and doo-wop from California band The Altons to slow dance to.  Listen to "Where Did She Go?" below and pick up the brand spanking new album "Heartache in Room 14" here from Penrose Records.

Daily Jam - Twiggy Twiggy

When i was in high school, i don't think i was ready for the far out and retro pop sounds of Japanese band Pizzicato Five.  I'm ready now.  Here's the frenetic "Twiggy Twiggy," our Daily Jam.

The Discussion

Back to the USA with some good, old-fashioned gothy darkwave from LA artist The Discussion.  Check out the dark and pulsing "Blue Light" below and pre-order the upcoming "All the Pretty Flowers" LP here from Artoffact Records.

Rude Films

Seemingly all about the UK artists this afternoon.  Manchester band Rude Films combine elements of post punk, slowcore alt-rock, and maybe a little shoegaze and grunge to craft a moody, noisy vibe that you just want to get lost in for a little while.  Check out "Blood on the Tracks" below and pre-order the upcoming self-titled album here from the band.
