David's Town

In conjunction with their new LP "David Comes To Life," to be released in June, Fucked Up are also dropping a fake compilation of bands that are supposed to inhabit the world of their rock opera. Guest singers galore play with the band as they recreate a lot of the punk scene from the 70's and 80's. Get it on Record Store Day. Hooray!

Holy Other

Mancunian producer Holy Other is set to release "With U," a 12" EP in June. We loved, loved, loved the dark, cold jam "Yr Love" that came out last year, and it's included on the EP. Haunting, ethereal, see-your-breath-cold electronica...good and sad the way it's supposed to be. Check it out from Tri Angle.

Destroyer pics

Here's some pics from last night's Destroyer show. Great, fun show keeping with the smooth "Kaputt" vibe of a "Romancing The Stone" soundtrack. Good times. I even saw Bejar crack a smile, although as i was later informed, it was only because someone in the crowd called him God.

Flaming Lips and Neon Indian 12"

The new 12" from The Flaming Lips and Neon Indian came out. And i don't have it. And that's bullshit.

David Comes To Life

Fucked Up's concept rock opera, "David Comes To Life," comes out in June from Matador. Look for singles and a "Town Comp" of fictional bands from the album's universe to come out over the next couple of months. Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!

"It's about a guy, David, who works at a light bulb factory. He falls in love with this activist. She subsequently dies during an accident. You never really find out what the accident is because we couldn't think of it [laughs]. Then David's on trial. There's this prosecutor who was secretly in love with the activist but is also aware that he's in a play. Then it gets really heady and drugged-out."

I cannot wait for this.

Sega urinal game

The mad scientists at Sega (i was surprised they're still around too) are creating urinal video games in Japan. There's one that measures how much you pee and records it like a high score and another that allows you to wash graffiti off a wall with a hose. Take that earthquake/tsunami!

Thurston Moore

Thurston Moore is set to release a new solo LP called "Demolished Thoughts" on May 24th from Matador Records. Beck produced the album, and it sounds really beautiful. Go here to download the first song, "Benediction."

Mess With Texas pics

Mess With Texas was in many ways this year, a fucking mess. Due to some last minute change, Odd Future played on a different stage than had been advertised. People freaked. In the surge to get to the main stage, people brought down a fence and started to flow over the line of port-a-potties. The area got swarmed so quickly, that we had to make security feel bad enough to let us leave through the emergency exit. We then promptly re-entered the park through the main entrance. Hazaa. Anyway, here are some pics from the day:
