The Mellons

Here's some absolutely glorious psych pop from Utah band The Mellons.  The Brian Wilson love runs deep on "Hello Sun," a track just exploding in sound.  Check it out below and pre-order the band's upcoming debut "Introducing...The Mellons" here from Earth Libraries.

Daily Jam - On a White Lake, Near a Green Mountain

I've got to travel for work later this afternoon.  I'm not excited about that at all, though a few hours of roadway and music might be nice.  Here's an old track from M83.  Listen to "On a White Lake, Near a Green Mountain" below, our Daily Jam.

Goon

Here's some new music from LA's Goon.  It's a little shoegaze, a little grunge, a little psychedelic, grooving alt-rock to soothe the soul.  Check out "Angelnumber 1210" below and get the "Hour of Green Evening" LP here from the band.

Daily Jam - Godless

So unbelievably tired today.  I just can't get moving.  Maybe The Dandy Warhols can help.  Here's "Godless," our Daily Jam.

Fera

I find that a lot of dark ambient music can either feel cold and icy or hot and steamy.  It's pretty cool when it can go either way.  Italian artist Fera makes industrial and techno-laced dark ambient music that does just that, perfect droning sounds for the ice age or the sweltering heat.  Check out "Tempio Nella Bocca" below and get the "Corpo Senza Carne" album here from Maple Death Records.

Friday Horror Trailer - Mosquito

Daily Jam - Jerome

Jim Sullivan was a singer/songwriter from southern California who made psych-tinged, folky, Americana in the '60s and '70s.  He disappeared without a trace in New Mexico in 1975.  Here's a track from his 1969 debut.  Listen to "Jerome" below, our Daily Jam.

Fucked Up

After last year's absolutely epic and massive "Year of the Horse," you'd maybe think that the long running Canadian hard core punks of Fucked Up might take a little break.  Nope.  Instead, the band has a new EP heading our way in October with "Oberon."  Check out that awesome cover art above and then listen to the equally awesome "Strix" below.  And pre-order the download here or the vinyl here from Tankcrimes.

Daily Jam - Raining Blood

A few years back, i caught a performance from Dead Cross, the supergroup featuring Mike Patton and Slayer's Dave Lombardo.  And during the encore, they started to play the opening to Slayer's "Raining Blood."  The crowd when fucking crazy.  And then the band stopped and said "Just kidding," and then played a different song, took a bow, and left the stage.  It was pretty goddamn funny.  Anyway, here's "Raining Blood" for real, our Daily Jam.

Matthew Halsall

Whelp, it's off to the salt mines for me.  Guess the only thing i can do to calm the spirit is listen to some cool jazz.  Here's some new work from UK artist Matthew Halsall.  New album "The Temple Within" is out next month on Gondwana Records.  Get it here and listen to the title track below.

Daily Jam - Wicked

Digging on a little Ice Cube this morning.  Here's "Wicked," our Daily Jam.

Dave Phillips

The Institute for Incoherent Cinematography is a Swiss project that pairs composers and musicians with old silent films to hear what kind of live soundtracks emerge.  The latest is from experimental composer Dave Phillips with his very ominous and creepy new score for Luis Buñuel's and Salvador Dalí's "Un Chien Andalou."  Check it out below and get it here.

Daily Jam - Beware

Death Grips' whole discography goes pretty hard, and kickstarting the whole thing off with an unsettling Charlie Manson sample really set the tone.  Hooked me instantly at least.  Anyway, here's "Beware" with said sample, our Daily Jam.

Blondshell

LA's Sabrina Teitelbaum has dropped a couple of wonderful alt-pop tracks this summer under the moniker of Blondshell.  The latest is the short and sweet "Kiss City."  Check it out below and get it here.

Monster Rally

LA artist Monster Rally is back with a new album of exotica, psych, and surf tinged instrumentals to soundtrack cocktails by the pool.  Get the "Botanica Dream" LP here and listen to the album opening "Golden Shores" below.

VIQ

We are in the dead of summer right now, and it's hot.  Let's do our best to cool down with some summer vibes from French artist VIQ.  Hazy chillwave tones abound.  Check out "Driving Forever" below and get the new "Waiting for the Dawn" album here from Stratford Ct.

Daily Jam - Caffeine

Everything is about to be busy, busy, busy.  So i can't think of a better way to bet myself going than by listening to some Faith No More.  Here's "Caffeine," our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Just to Get Us Off

Here's some chug and churn from '80s underground psychedelic space rock band F/i.  Coming straight out of Wisconsin, "Just to Get Us Off" sounds like flying headfirst into the sun.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Godzilla

My work schedule is going to be very full and intense for the next three weeks, so i'm prepping my mind, body, and soul with a long weekend.  And while these days, long weekends mainly consist of swimming with my kids and then a couple of beers and a movie, let's pretend we're driving around town aimlessly, up to no good, slamming cans of cheap beer, getting green, and listening to things like Blue Öyster Cult.  Here's "Godzilla," our Daily Jam.

Friday Horror Trailer - The Convent

Daily Jam - Significant Other

I was moving some stuff around the other day and came across my CD copy of Steven Wilson's 2008 album "Insurgentes."  So i popped on the stereo and listened the whole way through.  I had completely forgotten how great it is, wonderful, proggy alt-rock.  Here's a highlight from the record, "Significant Other," our Daily Jam.

Gloria de Oliveira & Dean Hurley

Regular David Lynch audio collaborator Dean Hurley has a new album on the horizon, this time paired with German-Brazilian visual artist and musician Gloria de Oliveira.  New song "All Flowers in Time" plays like a daydream, all ethereal and floating textures.  It's quite beautiful.  Check it out below and pre-order the "Oceans of Time" LP here from Sacred Bones.

Daily Jam - Tangerine

And now for a little Canadian '90s alt-rock.  Listen to "Tangerine" by Moist below, our Daily Jam.

Girls in Synthesis

Here's some noisy, throbbing post punk from UK band Girls in Synthesis.  The group has an album on the horizon called "The Rest Is Distraction," but to hold us over until then, they've released new single "Watch With Mother."  Check the track out below and order the 7" here.

Daily Jam - Never Come Down

UK alt-rock band Drugstore were only a blip on the radar in the US, the Thom Yorke assisted "El  Presidente" garnering the attention they received.  I think i'm one of the few folks here on this side of the pond that actually picked up the album and loved it too.  It's a solid '90s alt-rock record, and probably deserved some reevaluation.  Anyway, here's "Never Come Down," our Daily Jam.

Dead Cross

I was unaware we were getting a new record from hardcore supergroup Dead Cross this fall.  What wonderful news.  Let Mike Patton, Dave Lombardo, and the gang smack you in the jaw with "Reign of Error" below and pre-order "II" here from Ipecac.

Daily Jam - Red House

A band that never got the attention it really should have is Shudder To Think.  They remained relatively obscure for the entirety of their run, but that led to their fans being wholly protective of them.  They're adored in certain circles, as it should be.  Here's "Red House" from 1991, our Daily Jam.

Henning Zinoviev & Floating Candles

I really do love the concept of the missing soundtrack, where someone somehow discovers missing film reels in an old warehouse or storage unit somewhere, gets the audio cleaned up, and then releases the sounds into the world.  It's fun, even if it is all bullshit.  The latest comes to us from the wonderful label Library of the Occult with the supposed acid-drenched score for a film called "Die Nude for Satan" by Henning Zinoviev & Floating Candles.  I can find no evidence of a film called "Die Nude for Satan," though there is a 1974 Italian flick called "Nude for Satan."  Anyway, fun gimmicks aside, the music is pretty cool.  Check out "Die Nude for Satan Opening Scene" below and get the record here.

Daily Jam - Pseudo Bread

Let's start the week with a little mayhem from the long running Japanese band Boris.  Check out the frenetic crunch of "Pseudo Bread" below, our Daily Jam.

Kolumbo

Keyboardist Frank LoCrasto has been on the scene for a while, playing with the likes of Cass McCombs and Fruit Bats, but has now ventured solo as Kolumbo.  New album "Gung Ho" is out now and features an intoxicating and dreamy mix of exotica, library jazz, and pop psych.  Listen to "Imperial Bikers MC" below and get the album here from Calico Discos.

Daily Jam - Shame on Me

It's been 13 years since Philly artist Amanda Blank released her only album, "I Love You."  Yeah, there've been a few singles here and there the last few years, but nothing major.  Someone should do something about that.  In the meantime, dig on the electro-dance-pop of "Shame on Me" below, our Daily Jam.

Birds in Row

Here's a noisy blast of hardcore punk and emo from French band Birds in Row.  "Water Wings" is the kind of thing i would have banged around to 20+ years ago, a melodic and aggressive piece raw emotion.  Check it out below and pre-order the "Gris Klein" LP here from Red Creek.

Julia, Julia

Julia Kugel, one of the founding members of the raucous garage rock group The Coathangers, is venturing out on a new solo project called Julia, Julia.  The new project finds the artist in dreamier, hazier, trippier waters going by the gorgeous and hypnotic new single "Fever in My Heart."  Check that song out below and pre-order the upcoming "Derealization" LP here from Suicide Squeeze.

Daily Jam - Love to Fly

Time to get down with some freaky, discoid mutants and the funks sounds of the JP Massiera produced Venus Gang.   Check out the sensual, cosmic vibes of "Love to Fly" below, our Daily Jam.

Lawn

Here's a cool mix of indie rock and post punk from New Orleans band Lawn.  New EP "Bigger Sprout" just dropped today.  Get it here from Born Yesterday Records and listen to "Sweet" below.

Friday Horror Trailer - Final Destination 2

Daily Jam - Blinding Lights

It's kind of cool to see what songs my kids (9 and 6) find on their own that the like.  The sounds of Post Malone and Lil Nas X have certainly filled my house the last couple of years, but at the moment they're really into The Weeknd's 2020 track "Blinding Lights."  And now i am too.  Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Thursday, July 14, 2022

Sloan

Hey, hey, hey, it's some new music from Sloan.  Dig on that Canadian power pop.  Listen to "Spend the Day" below and pre-order the upcoming "Steady" LP here from Yep Roc Records.

Kutiman

Israeli artist Kutiman is set to release his new album "Open" this fall, and on the first single, we find a groovy and catchy mix of psych, funk, soul, and just a little bit of smooth yacht rock.  Check out "My Everything" featuring Dekel below and pre-order the album here from the artist.

Daily Jam - I Am the Antichrist to You

Kishi Bashi's "I Am the Antichrist to You" is about a decade old now, but i never heard it until its use on "Rick and Morty" last season.  And at first, i thought it was a Bon Iver song.  Anyway, it's moving and lovely, and you should listen below, our Daily Jam.

Teen Suicide

For some reason i was under the impression that Philly band Teen Suicide were now defunct, but it turns out i was mistaken.  And i'm damn glad i was, because the group's particular brand of lo-fi alt-rock and fuzz can be just what the doctor ordered.  Listen to new tune "Get High, Breathe Underwater (#3)" below and pre-order the upcoming "Honeybee Table at The Butterfly Feast" here from Run For Cover.

Archers of Loaf

Good news everyone!  October brings us a brand new album from seminal '90s alt-rock band Archers of Loaf.  Check out the soaring and practically anthemic "In the Surface Noise" below and pre-order the "Reason in Decline" LP here from Merge.

Daily Jam - Asleep from Day

It's so damn hot here, i can barely bring myself to move.  I just sweat and sweat and stick to everything.  It's hard to stay awake.  Here's "Asleep from Day" by the Chemical Brothers featuring an assist from the lovely Hope Sandoval on vocals.  Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Holy Fawn

September brings us a new album of swirling post rock, shoegaze, and ambience from Arizona's Holy Fawn.  Check out the gorgeous "Death Is A Relief" below and pre-order the "Dimensional Bleed" LP here from Wax Bodega.

Daily Jam - It's Over

I still think that Filter's "Short Bus" is one of better albums to come out during the alt-rock heyday of the mid '90s.  That's the hill i'm planting my flag on.  Here's the band with "It's Over," our Daily Jam.

Caterina Barbieri

With the exception of a 3-day weekend i've coming up at the end of July, my vacation time is pretty much wrapped up for the summer.  And now, my busy season at work begins.  The next 3 months are going to be hectic.  So lets preemptively calm my nerves with some new and experimental electronic music from Milan's Caterina Barbieri.  Dig on the ambient and drone tones of "Knot of Spirit (Synth Version)" below and get the "Spirit Exit" LP here from Light-Years.

Daily Jam - Toy Soldiers

It might be a little cheesy, but i am a defender of Martika's late '80s pop hit "Toy Soldiers," and you should be too.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Ain't that Lonely Yet

I am not much of a fan of modern country music from the last 30+ years, but i make a wholehearted exception for the work of Dwight Yoakam.  He was always a little too rock n' roll for country radio and a little too country for rock radio, and it suits him perfectly.  Here's "Ain't that Lonely Yet," a track i'm led to believe is about Sharon Stone, and our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - The Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver

Here's a wonderful track from the perennially underrated British band Elbow.  Listen to "The Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver" below, our Daily Jam.
