Brian Ellis

San Diego pop artist Brian Ellis just released a possible contender for album of the upcoming summer, albeit a strange one, with his breezy, funky, and smooth soft rock opus "Lifetime Supply."  I can practically feel the sand between my toes, the sun and wind on my face, and the fruity cocktail in my hand listening to it.  Dig on the dreamy throwback pop of album closer "Blurred" below and get the LP here from CQQL Records.

Psychic Mirrors

Miami yacht rock band Psychic Mirrors just released a new version of their 2017 track "Charlene," updating it into the more full-bodied, funkier disco jam "Charlene II."  Shake and groove to it below and get the 12" single here from Amnisia.

Tupperwave

I'm still a novice when it comes to the musical genre of vaporwave, but sometimes the heart wants what it wants.  The sound is something akin to taking those early chillwave records from the late '00s and distilling them down to just warbled synths and vibes.  There are hints of mall music, muzak, library sounds, yacht rock, commercials, and bits of half-remembered sounds that all play together in some kind of fever dream.  Australian artist Tupperwave serves that up in spades on his latest album "Grocery Store Sunset."  The album dropped earlier this year but is now available on vinyl.  Get it here from My Pet Flamingo and listen to "My Lucky Stars" below.

Canada's Men I Trust dropped a new track a couple days back, and it fits right in that sonic space somewhere between yacht rock, vaporwave, chillwave, and R&B, the kind of song to listen to with closed eyes and the sun on your face.  Check out "Hard to Let Go" below and download it here.

Braxe + Falcon + Panda Bear

French electronic duo Braxe + Falcon have teamed with Animal Collective's Panda Bear on their upcoming "Step By Step" EP.  The title track finds the trio channeling the most chilled out of yacht rock vibes for a perfect summer jam.  Check it out below and pre-order the 12" here from Smugglers Way.

Zombi & Friends

Pittsburgh synth and prog duo Zombi are back with a new album, though this time it's a covers record, and they've brought some friends along to provide the vocals.  Hear the band cover everyone from Dionne Warwick to Neil Diamond and beyond, featuring assists from members of The Sword, Trans Am, and more.  It plays like a stoner's yacht rock album.  Check out the cover of the Alan Parsons Project's "Sirius/Eye in The Sky" below and get the "Zombi & Friends, Vol 1" LP here from Relapse.

Australian disco pop artist Donny Benet released "Mr. Experience" back in May, and it probably would have been the big goofy summer record around these parts if not for...well, you know.  Anyway, summer's winding down (my oldest is already back in school, remotely at least), so i'm gonna try to remedy that as much as possible.  Check out the yacht funk vibes of the title track below and get the album here from Remote Control.

Men I Trust

Montreal's Men I Trust have been putting out a string of singles over the last couple of years, dreamy little nuggets of pop.  And i made a note to myself to keep a lookout for a proper new full length from the group.  Then i saw that they had one coming our way.  Then i forgot.  But now it's here.  The band's new double album, "Oncle Jazz," compiles many of those previously released singles, though re-recorded for the album, as well as a whole slew of new ones.  Check out the new album version of "Numb" below, a hummy, hazy mix of bedroom dreampop, yacht rock, and R&B, and order the record from the band here.

A little over 10 years ago, i finally got around to listening to Beach Boy Dennis Wilson's 1977 solo album "Pacific Ocean Blue" when it received the deluxe reissue treatment.  It soon became one of my favorite records.  And still is.  I even wrote about it once.  Anyway, here's the wonderful album opener "River Song," our Daily Jam.
