The Thorn

Here's a haunting new psych folk track from UK band The Thorn (FKA Large Plants), a rework of traditional French ballad "La Pernette."  Listen below and download it here from the artist.

Magic Circle

Magic Circle is the project of Arkansas artist Jeffery Scott Greer.  Recording at home on a Tascam 4-track cassette recorder (hey, i used to have one of those), Greer makes throwback psychedelic rock on new album "The Thinning Veil Between Worlds," with the lo-fi quality of the recording giving everything a vintage '60s feel, like the soundtrack from some Satan-worshipping biker movie.  Dig on the album opening "Hóstblot" below and pay what you want for the download here.

Midweek Circle

Stumbled upon some great new music from Edinburgh band Midweek Circle while bumming around on Bandcamp the other night.  The group makes throwback pop with elements of folk, kosmische psychedelia, and plenty of analog synthesizers that feels like it's being broadcast from some mysterious valley in Great Britain.  Check out "In the Wind" below and grab the "Macramé For Beginners" cassette here from the band.

Silk Fence

Silk Fence is the New York based, experimental instrumental trio of Arian Shafiee (Guerilla Toss), Booker Stardrum (SML), and Justin Frye (PC Worship).  Together, they pull from jazz, post rock, ambient, neo-classical, psychedelia, and more to craft sprawling soundscapes of soothing textures and propulsive grooves.  Check out "(A)RT" below and pre-order the band's upcoming self-titled LP here from Sophomore Lounge.

Why Bother?

Iowa band Why Bother? have a very cool synth/psych/garage rock/post-punk fusion thing going on for them, and i am here for it.  New album "Beyond Step One" dropped earlier this month, and it's a total banger with weird, surreal, spoken word pieces strewn throughout.  I don't think anything else sounds quite like it.  Grab it here from Feel It Records and listen to "Come Undone" below.

Yoo Doo Right

Montreal cosmic explorers Yoo Doo Right are back with a new album of interstellar-psychedelia to shake our eardrums and expand our minds.  Check out new tune "Doldrums, Doldrums, Eviler than the Devil" below and pre-order the upcoming "Build and Rest by the Shepherd's Light" LP here from Mothland.

Daily Jam - Ta Det Lugnt

I remember how blown away i was the first time i heard Swedish psych rock band Dungen over 20 years ago.  Truth be told, listening to 2004's "Ta Det Lugnt," i'm still blown away.  Just an amazing piece of work.  Listen along with me, will you?  Here's the title track, our Daily Jam.

Kraus

Not to be confused with the Dallas based alt-rock band of the same name, New Zealand artist Kraus makes experimental, psych-tinged electronica.  New album "Water Music" feels tailor made for some kind of educational film.  Check out "Princess from the Moon" below and pre-order the cassette here.

Daily Jam - Space Mantra

It's time to get transcendental with some rhythmic noise from post rock/space rock band F/i.  Dig on the sounds of "Space Mantra" below, our Daily Jam.

Mondoriviera

For years LA based record label Not Not Fun has been the place to go for weird and warbled sounds, dubby, underwater psychedelia, new age, and pop for the masses.  And they're still killing it.  The latest comes from Italian artist Mondoriviera and his new "La Laguna Dei Bei Sogni" cassette.  Dig on the hazy, lo-fi mutant pop of "Fikisan" below and grab the album here.

The Drin

The excellent Cincinnati band The Drin dropped a great new single back in May with the release of "The Pigs of Silver Linings," and they follow that up with the announcement of their upcoming and epic new album "I Lost My Way for Centuries."  First taste "Haven't Live It Yet" takes the band's lo-fi post punk sound and infuses it with a kind of dubby and chugging, krautrock-tinged psychedelic flair.  Really, really cool stuff.  This one just jumped to the top of my anticipated fall releases.  Dig on the track below and pre-order the LP here from Feel It Records.
