October Horror Trailer - The Masque of The Red Death

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Monster Mash

I was looking around for something scary or classic to play out this Halloween season, and was having trouble deciding on something.  Screw it.  We're listening to "Monster Mash."  So here ya go, our Daily Jam.

RIP Sean Connery

There are too many iconic performances to even begin.  RIP to an absolute legend.  RIP Sean Connery.

Pye Corner Audio

Prolific as ever, Pye Corner Audio just released a new eerie track perfect for scoring any spooky, properly socially distanced festivities you may have planned for tonight.  Listen to "Just a Flesh Wound" below and get it here from the artist.

Cindy Cane

Here's a spooky post punk jam to carry with us into the night from Brooklyn's Cindy Cane.  Listen to "The Darkness" below, download it here from the artist, and put your costumes on.

October Horror Trailer - Dawn of the Dead

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Halloween Is Black as Night

Jackson C. Frank was a folk and blues artist who recorded one lone album in the '60s (produced by Paul Simon no less), and then kind of faded into obscurity.  Odds and ends of different recording sessions have popped up over time, and one of those songs is the brooding "Halloween Is Black as Night."  Check it out in all its October glory below, our Daily Jam.

Ela Minus

Brooklyn artist Ela Minus makes politically-tinged moody and icy electronic music, flourishes of pop and drone sometimes bubbling to the surface.  Check out the cool and churning "They Told Us It Was Hard, But They Were Wrong" below and get the "Acts of Rebellion" LP here from the artist.

October Horror Trailer - Rabid

Chelsea Wolfe - In Heaven

Can't get enough of our Daily Jam today?  Well, here's a wonderful cover of "In Heaven" from the always dependable, always dark and moody Chelsea Wolfe.  Check it out below.

Daily Jam (October Edition) - In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song)

Feeling some creepy David Lynch vibes today?  Here's the eerie "In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song)" from "Eraserhead" for our Daily Jam.

John Carpenter

Well, there's at least one thing i hope we can make it to the other side of 2020 for, and that's the new testament from J.C.  That's right, a new John Carpenter album.  Check out "Weeping Ghost" below and pre-order the "Lost Theme III: Alive After Death" LP here via Sacred Bones.

October Horror Trailer - Lord of Illusions

Daily Jam (October Edition) - A Nightmare on Elm Street (Main Title)

Aside from the obvious John Williams stuff like "Jaws" or "Star Wars" or "Indiana Jones," Charles Bernstein's electronic score for "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is the first soundtrack i remember being really taken with.  It's just so creepy and effective, and that main little melody stays in subconscious, just waiting for you to go to sleep...and dream.  Check out the main title below, our Daily Jam.

October Horror Trailer - Psycho III

Daily Jam (October Edition) - The Chiller

Here's some groovy '60s Halloween music from the Vic Plati Quintet.  Check out the swaying bop of "The Chiller" below, our Daily Jam.

The Paranoyds

Trippy LA alt-rock band The Paranoyds have a new 7" heading our way in a couple weeks, but the A-side is out just in time for Halloween.  Not a reference to the King novel or the Ramones song, as discernable from the correctly spelled "cemetery," the band's "Pet Cemetery" has spooky vibes for days and reverb and crunch to rattle your ears.  Check it out below and get the record here from Suicide Squeeze.

Zombi

Prog duo Zombi recently did a live score for a streaming, script reading event of "Night of the Living Dead" featuring the stars from both the '68 version and the '90 remake.  And they put some of the raw cuts up on Bandcamp.  They're great.  Check out "Evans City (Drum Take)" below and download the whole thing here from the band.

October Horror Trailer - Urban Legend

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Waltz in Black

Feeling some evil funhouse music this morning, so here's The Stranglers with "Waltz in Black," our Daily Jam.

After Dark 3

Johnny Jewel and Italians Do It Better are back with another compilation album, "After Dark 3."  These are always great and seem to come in 7 year intervals.  Check out the whole thing below (i'm particularly digging Orion's cover of Vivien Vee's "Higher" right now) and download it here for a dollar.  And keep your eyes on the label for a proper vinyl release in the future.

October Horror Trailer - May the Devil Take You

Daily Jam (October Edition) - HÃ¥rga, Collapsing

Ari Aster has the goods when getting his films scored, be it Colin Stetson's soundtrack for "Hereditary" or Bobby Krlic's (AKA The Haxan Cloak) for "Midsommar."  Both fantastic films.  Both fantastic scores.  But today we're focusing on the latter.  Here's "HÃ¥rga, Collapsing," our Daily Jam.

Hachiku

Australian bedroom pop artist Hachiku, one of those acts i would have definitely checked out in the long, long ago at SXSW, has a full length coming our way next month.  Pre-order the "I'll Probably Be Asleep" LP here from Milk! Records and listen to the title track below.

October Horror Trailer - Absurd

Daily Jam (October Edition) - To Know and To Hide

The Body often make terrifying music that could fit perfectly into a horror movie atmosphere, a sound pretty much captured perfectly by their 2016 single "To Know and To Hide."  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Annie

Norwegian pop artist Annie just released her first album in a decade with this month's "Dark Hearts."  The album was reportedly recorded in a haunted house, and poltergeists or spectral visions or not, the whole thing plays like a nostalgic dream.  Check out "The Streets Where I Belong" below and get the album here (vinyl already sold out).

October Horror Trailer - The Town that Dreaded Sundown

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Theme from The Omen (Ave Satani)

Nothing like Jerry Goldsmith's score from "The Omen" to get things in the Halloween spirit around here.  Here's the theme from the film, "Ave Satani," our Daily Jam.

October Horror Trailer - Rituals

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Tonight She Comes

While i did not care for the movie, Polish film score composer and synth wave artist Wojciech Golczewski's score for "Tonight She Comes" is really great.  Check out the title track below, our Daily Jam.

Clouds Taste Satanic - Funeral for a Friend

"Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" is hands down my favorite Elton John song, the instrumental first half dirge speaking directly to my soul.  So i was quite delighted to find that New York instrumental stoner metal band Clouds Taste Satanic are kicking off their "Satanic Singles Series" with a cover of that first half dirge.  And they're pretty faithful to the original too.  Check it out below and get the 7" here from the band.  The B-side is a version of "Also Sprach Zarathustra."  I'm interested to see where they go with future singles in the series.

The Cowboys

A band that has been making itself one of my favorites the last couple years is Bloomington, Indiana's The Cowboys.  Their blend of psych pop, garage rock, and old rock n' roll is the aural bubblegum i've been looking for.  Their latest is this week's "Lovers in Marble" EP which finds them channeling The Kinks, The Velvet Underground, and more.  Check out "Saintlike Said" below and get the cassette here from Feel It Records.

October Horror Trailer - Popcorn

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Dawn of the Dead

And now it's time for some Goblin.  Here's the Italian prog rock legends' theme from "Dawn of the Dead," our Daily Jam.

Lebanon Hanover

I did not know that there was new music from Germany's darkwave duo Lebanon Hanover heading our way this year, so it came as a surprise to see that a new album dropped today.  Check out "The Last Thing" below and order the "Sci-Fi Sky" LP here from the band.

October Horror Trailer - Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Don't Fear the Reaper

Movies having slowed down and moody covers of pop songs is kind of par for the course these days, but the first one that i can think of was used in "Scream," the haunting acoustic take on "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Gus.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Salem

With all the activity from the group in the last few weeks, it was probably inevitable that a new record from Salem was on the horizon, and now they've announced it with "Fires in Heaven" dropping on October 30th for stream and download.  In true Salem fashion, the pre-order for the vinyl has already sold out.  Sigh.  Anyway, pretty stoked for the record.  Check out new track "Red River" below and find the album here.

October Horror Trailer - Destroyer

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Don't Shake Me Lucifer

Good ol' Roky Erickson.  Moving to Austin, you're basically issued at least one album from his catalog along with some Willie Nelson.  And that suits me just fine.  Here's "Don't Shake Me Lucifer," our Daily Jam.

Delphine Coma

October sure is season for moody, gothy death rock.  So here's some new moody, gothy death rock from Texas duo Delphine Coma.  The two very obviously listened to Sisters of Mercy growing up, as should we all.  Check out "Dissolve" below and get the upcoming "Tortuosa" LP here from SwissDarkNights on Halloween of course.

October Horror Trailer - Creature from the Black Lagoon

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Beware

Somewhere in internet-land the other day, i saw someone suggest that artists should start recording Halloween novelty songs again.  That's a sentiment i could not agree with more.  Bring back the Halloween novelty song!  Here's one from 1962 from Bill Buchanan.  Listen to "Beware" below, our Daily Jam.

First

Exploring around Bandcamp the other day, and i stumbled across the self-titled album from Belgian band First.  I checked out the album opening track "Restless," and was pretty much sold within the first minute, an icy and moody mix of darkwave synth and post punk with just the right amount of goth dramatics and electronic flair.  Instant purchase.  Check the track out below, and pre-order the album here from Sentimental Records, dropping next month.

Under Tears

Under Tears is the project of Berlin artist Julie Chance, making stripped down, lo-fi and dreamy folk music.  Check out the wonderfully melancholy "Good Drying Weather" below and download the track from the artist here.

October Horror Trailer - Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Ghost Town

Listen to the spooky groove of The Specials' "Ghost Town," below, our Daily Jam.

Julie Byrne & Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - Love's Refrain

A few years back, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma released the beautiful "Love's Refrain," an dreamy instrumental track that was used to profound effect on last year's "Knife + Heart."  It makes its way into rotation pretty regularly around these parts, and now we've got a new lyrical version courtesy of folk artist Julie Byrne.  Byrne leaves the song intact and adds her soothing vocals to create a wonderful new take on the track.  Check it out below and get it here from Looking Glass.

October Horror Trailer - Wolfen
