John Carpenter

August brings us new music from John Carpenter with the forthcoming release of "Cathedral."  And not just that, the album serves as a soundtrack of sorts to a new graphic novel of same name, based on a dream Carpenter had in 2024.  It's probably the closest thing we'll get to a new John Carpenter movie, so consider us stoked.  Check out "Lord of the Underground" below and pre-order here from Sacred Bones.

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Myers' House

On some Halloweens, there's a house at the end of my block whose resident dresses as Michael Myers and slowly follows the trick-or-treaters down the street while playing tracks from the soundtrack on his stereo.  I love it.  The kids love it.  And the whole thing is maybe the funniest when he just stands by the big bush in his front yard and stares.  All the while, John Carpenter's "Myers' House" plays.  I hope he revives it tomorrow night.  In the meanwhile, listen to the track below, our Daily Jam.

While i very much wish we could get some more films out of legendary artist John Carpenter, i have to also admit that this second phase of his career where he smokes weed, plays video games, and makes music with his son Cody Carpenter and his godson Daniel Davies is pretty goddamn cool.  And the trio just keeps on churning it out too.  Their latest is the upcoming "Lost Themes IV: Noir," a collection of tunes inspired by the sights and sounds of film noir.  Listen to the fantastic and moody album opening "My Name Is Death" below and pre-order the record here from Sacred Bones.

John Carpenter - Christine

As we're entering a new Hollywood Stephen King Renaissance, or so it seems, cemented by how freaking great "It" was, i expect that the rest of the horror nerds and i will go and revisit all those King properties we grew up before the onslaught of new films and remakes.  So, it's only fitting that for John Carpenter's upcoming album, "Anthology (Movie Themes 1974-1998)," he gets back behind the camera for the first time in seven years to direct a video for his theme for "Christine."  It's kind of a quick, re-imagining of the original film, and it makes me long for the man to make more films.  And while that's probably not going to happen, at least we've got this.  Watch below and get the album in October on Sacred Bones.
