STOMP TALK MODSTONE

Japanese shoegazers STOMP TALK MODSTONE just released some new music earlier this week with the "Summer '97" EP.  Check out the swirling haze and fuzz of the title track below and download the EP here.

Daily Jam - Junior Panthers

Posting about Canadian band Eric's Trip yesterday led me straight to Sloan.  Here's a track from their 1996 album "One Chord to Another."  Listen to "Junior Panthers" below, our Daily Jam.

White Fence

LA artist Tim Presley goes solo again with his White Fence project and new album "Orange."  Usual collaborator Ty Segall comes along for the ride behind the drumkit and the mixing board.  Check out the mellow and melancholy, garage psych-tinged, singer/songwriter vibe of "Unread Books" below and grab a copy of the LP here from Drag City.

The Mellons

Salt Lake City band The Mellons are back in June with a new album of throwback, kaleidoscopic psychedelic pop.  Check out new tune "Things Gone By" below and pre-order the forthcoming "The Mellons in Color" LP here from Earth Libraries.

Friko

I caught Chicago indie rock band Friko a couple of years ago at an instore performance at an Austin record shop during SXSW.  They had that '00s indie sound down pat back then, and have only perfected it more since then.  Get their new "Something Worth Waiting For" LP here from ATO and listen to "Seven Degrees" below.

Daily Jam - Stove

There are so very many bands and artists whose names crossed my ears during my pre-teen and teenage years only to fade away as i grew older, lost to time and barely remembered memories.  I've spent the last 25 years hunting them down.  Here's a lo-fi track from Canada's Eric's Trip, a name i assume is a nod to the Sonic Youth song, that i first heard as a cover by fellow Canadian power pop band Sloan.  Check out "Stove" below, our Daily Jam.

Sam Gendel & Sam Wilkes

LA experimental jazz artists Sam Gendel and Sam Wilkes just released their latest collaborative album "Unrelated," an airy, dreamy record of ambient new age and jazz.  Dig on the cinematic and lo-fi vibes of album opener "Rapworld" below and get the LP here from the duo.

Fr. Dionysios Tabakis

Fr. Dionysios Tabakis is a priest of the Greek Orthodox Church, serving at the Church of Panagitsa in Nafplio, the Nativity of the Theotokos.  He also wails on his electric guitar at home.  The result is a beautiful and mystic mix of psychedelia, drone, folk, devotional, and byzantine spirituality.  It kind of fucking rules, pardon my French.  Check out "Ἠλεκτρικαὶ Ὑμνωδίαι – Α΄ Ἑωθινὸν μὲ ἠλεκτρικὴν κιθάραν ἄνευ τάστων (perdesiz)" below and download the excellently titled "Paradise Metal" album here from Heat Crimes (the cassette is sold out).

Fauna

Here's some cool-as-shit new music from Swedish psych rock band Fauna.  The band's sound is grooving, danceable mix of Anatolian rock, Eastern psychedelia, and worldbeat.  Check out the fantastic "Dunans Torka" below and get the new "Taiga Trans" LP here from Glitterbeat Records.

Daily Jam - Strange Days

These days, i am well into my reevaluation of The Doors.  As a teen, i was, like a lot of other people, way way too reverential of the '60s LA band.  And then later, to counter that, i probably was too fast to completely write them off.  Hence the reevaluation.  Here's the title track from the group's sophomore album, a song i almost swapped with alternative metal band Prong's mid-'90s cover instead.  Listen to "Strange Days" below, our Daily Jam.

Curses

Over the last five years, Berlin based artist Luca Venezia, AKA Curses, has been releasing compilations of different music that shaped his life and art, dubbed "Next Wave Acid Punx."  The albums highlight all manner of electro-industrial-techno-madness.  The latest edition, "Trois," is due in June.  Check out the artist's own contribution to the series, "Crown of Ruin (Extended Mix)," below, and get all three volumes here from Eskimo Recordings.

The Haunted Youth

I wanted to catch Belgium's The Haunted Youth last month in Austin during SXSW, but it was not to be.  I had a lot less time to get out there than i usually do, and the festival's schedule was all wonky from years past.  Anyway, new album "Boys Cry Too" is out in couple of weeks.  Check out the wistful, shoegazey "Emo Song" below and pre-order the LP here from Play It Again Sam.

Sugar Horse

Here's some new music from the often uncategorizable Bristol band Sugar Horse.  The band's wild and cacophonous mix of black metal, alt-rock, noise, and prog rock can make the head spin in the best ways.  New album "Not a Sound in Heaven" is out now.  Get it here from Fat Dracula Records and listen to the doom-laden album closer "You Can't Say Dallas Doesn't Love You" below.

Daily Jam - Another Rainy Night (Without You)

Queensrÿche's "Empire" will forever transport me back to the 6th grade.  It, along with a handful of other records from that era, both good and bad, basically serve as a goddamn time machine going straight back to 11-year old me.  Here's a tack from it.  Listen to "Another Rainy Night (Without You)" below, our Daily Jam.

Rauncher

Things get weird and noisy on "Designer Ghosts II," the latest track from Athens, Georgia industrial duo Rauncher.  Check out the ominous tune below and pre-order the band's upcoming, self-titled album here from Primordial Void.

FACS

Chicago post punk band FACS just dropped a great new moody track on their split 7" tour single with Australian punk band Chimers.  Listen to "Parallel Lives" below and get the record here from 12XU.

Daily Jam - Girl, Why'd You Run Away

Here's a poppy punk song from Reggie and The Full Effect that i've always liked.  Listen to "Girl, Why'd You Run Away" below, our Daily Jam.

Forever Pavot & Melchior

About to head out to a book store opening, but before i leave, here's some weird kosmische electronic music from French artists Forever Pavot and Melchior.  Listen to "Reality (La Boum)" below and grab the "La Boum / TinTin" 7" here from Born Bad Records.

Manual

Danish artist Manual makes a chilled out mix of bedroom electronica and indie folk, kind of like a lot of the sounds we used to get in the early '00s...headphone music for afternoons in cafes or libraries.  Check out new tune "Iso" below and order the new "True Bypass" LP here from Darla Records.

Prism Shores

Here's some fuzzy, jangly indie rock from Montreal band Prism Shores.  The group just released their new "Softest Attack" LP earlier this month, and it's chock full of fun little nuggets.  Check out album opener "Kids Gloves" below and snag a copy of the LP here from Meritorio Records.

Daily Jam - Don't Want to Know if You Are Lonely

I am admittedly not well versed in the sounds and discography of OG Minneapolis indie rock band Hüsker Dü, or really Bob Mould's future endeavors both solo and with Sugar.  But they are cool.  Here's a track from their first major label effort in 1986.  Listen to "Don't Want to Know if You Are Lonely" below, our Daily Jam.

Beck - Ride Lonesome

Beck released a new song earlier this week with the lush and wistful "Ride Lonesome," a track that would easily slide right in with the vibes of 2002's "Sea Change" or 2014's "Morning Phase."  Check out the video for the track below.

Failure & Hayley Williams

Failure's new album "Location Lost" is out today.  The vinyl is already sold out, but you can download the album from the band here.  In the meanwhile, listen to "The Rising Skyline" featuring Paramore's Hayley Williams below.

Robber Robber

Here's some cool and crunchy, and kind of off-kilter alt-rock from Vermont band Robber Robber.  The band released their new full-length album "Two Wheels Move the Soul" earlier this month.  Listen to the excellent "Pieces" below and grab the LP here from Fire Talk.

Lauren Lakis

I caught Austin's Lauren Lakis last month during SXSW, and now the alt-rock artist has a new album heading our way on May 8th.  Listen to the melancholy, and very '90s sounding, "There" below and pre-order the upcoming "Deadlights" LP here from RidingEasy Records.

Friday Horror Trailer - Ringu

Daily Jam - One Armed Scissor

It's going to sound weird saying this, but here's a track from the turn of the century.  Yeah.  Makes you feel fucking ancient doesn't it?  Listen to At The Drive-In and "One Armed Scissor" below, our Daily Jam.

Jay Royale

Baltimore rapper Jay Royale just dropped new album "Woes of the Creator" a few days ago.  It's old school and killer.  Check out "Chips from the Goldschlager" featuring Jae Skeese below and download the album here.

Daily Jam - Black Mass

Man, today was long.  I'm just now getting home from work.  Time to unwind with some early '70s analog synthesizer experiments from Lucifer (Mort Garson), eat some Chinese takeout, and switch back and forth between the NFL draft and the NBA playoffs.  Then, passing out.  Listen to "Black Mass" below, our Daily Jam.

Teen Suicide

For some reason, i have it in my head that Portland lo-fi indie rock band Teen Suicide were going to break up or change their name or something.  Being that i'm posting right now about their brand new "Nude Descending Staircase, Headless" LP, i suppose that's not the case.  I must be tripping.  Anyway, check out "Idiot" below and snag a copy of the album here from Run For Cover Records.

Golomb Remixed by Sonic Boom

Earlier this month, Columbus, Ohio trio Golomb dropped their new "The Beat Goes On and On and On" EP, a companion to last year's "The Beat Goes On" LP.  It features a few alternate takes, remixes, and more, including this wonderful mix of "Be Here Now (Feels So Good)" by Sonic Boom (of Spacemen 3 and Spectrum fame).  Check it out below and grab the 12" here from No Quarter.

Mac Blackout

Experimental Chicago-based artist Mac Blackout utilizes elements of no-wave, jazz, noise, and more in his sonic explorations, and on the upcoming two-volume "Cycling" release, he finds himself wading the waters of analog electronic music.  Check out Saxophone accompanied "Cycle 1" below and pre-order the albums here.

Rare DM

New York electro-pop artist Rare DM has a full length album heading our way in May, and it's a brooding mix of dark dancefloor jams and electronic downers.  Check out new track "Honey" below and pre-order the "Attention" album here from the artist.

Smerz

Norwegian alt-pop duo Smerz are back next month with their new "Easy" EP.  Check out the R&B flavored "Spring Summer" below and pre-order the album here from Escho.

Daily Jam - Summer (Priority Version)

I vividly remember hearing Scottish band Mogwai for the first time when i was freshman in college, listening to the band's "Young Team" album in my dorm room.  I was blown away.  It was pretty much my first foray into the whole post rock thing.  From the album, here's "Summer (Priority Version)," our Daily Jam.

Jae Matthews

Get those darkwave vibes pulsing with some new music from Boy Harsher vocalist Jae Matthews.  Listen to the excellent electro-pop jam "Man on the Beat" below and download it here from Heartworm Press (the 12" single is already sold out).

Fight Bite

Man, it's been a while since we last heard from Austin based dreampop band Fight Bite.  Over 10 years by my estimation.  But they're back this month with a new album of synthy daydreams.  Check out the lovely new track "4 Seconds" below and download the duo's new "Party" album here.

Daily Jam - Billy Bones

Here's a trip-hoppy track from Peter Hook side project Monaco.  Listen to "Billy Bones" below, our Daily Jam.

Damos Room

Exploring around Bandcamp a little bit this morning and came across the dark and mysterious music of UK group Damos Room.  New album "All Shall Go" is a strange mix of drone, dub, rap, and noise that feels ritualistic at times.  It's eerie stuff, kind of unnerving, but also hypnotic.  Check out the title track below and get the LP here from Long Gone.

Oneohtrix Point Never

Here's a dubby and glitchy new jam from Oneohtrix Point Never.  This guy has created an absolutely massive body of work over the last 20 years, constantly morphing and evolving, but always sounding like Oneohtrix Point Never.  Good stuff.  Listen to new tune "Dim Stars" below and download it here from Warp.

Black Milk

Here's some new music from Detroit rapper Black Milk.  The artist's new album "Ceremonial" is out next month.  Pre-order it here from Computer Ugly and listen to the funky, electro-rock-tinged "Crash Test Dummy" below.

Haunted House Party

The excellent Haunted House Party is back today with new album of dusty beats and scratchy samples, this time around in a particularly green mood.  Enjoy the instrumental hip-hop of  "Afterlife's Most Blunted" below and get the "Haunted Highs" LP here from Strange Daisy.

BCMC

June brings us new ambient folk music from Chicago duo BCMC.  "Kaleidosmoke" kind of sounds like looking out your window on a rainy day, gray skies and droplets against the glass.  Dig on the soundscape below and pre-order the forthcoming "Stash" LP here from Drag City.

Daily Jam - It's No Good

I am very tired this morning.  I suppose a weekend of doing stuff, watching NBA playoff games, and thunderstorms can do that to a person.  Anyway, starting my week off with some Depeche Mode, as the gods intended.  Listen to "It's No Good" below, our Daily Jam.

Mistaedre

I just spent the last 30 minutes battling a web app with a very unfriendly user interface.  Serenity now.  Here's a mix of dungeon synth and library new age music to soothe my nerves.  Check out "Dark Beneath the Clouds" from electronic artist Mistaedre's new album "Wanderer in Exile" below and get the cassette here from Per Musica Ad Astra.

Daily Jam - The Same Deep Water as You

Nothing like a little music from The Cure on a Sunday morning.  Try not to despair and listen to "The Same Deep Water as You" below, our Daily Jam.

Kathryn Mohr

Here's some cool new indie rock from California artist Kathryn Mohr.  New album "Carve" is out now on The Flenser.  Get it here and listen to the strange and murky "Property" below.
