Manual

Danish artist Manual makes a chilled out mix of bedroom electronica and indie folk, kind of like a lot of the sounds we used to get in the early '00s...headphone music for afternoons in cafes or libraries.  Check out new tune "Iso" below and order the new "True Bypass" LP here from Darla Records.

Hannah Sandoz

Here's some strange and ghostly lo-fi folk from Chicago artist Hannah Sandoz taken from last year's "MF / HS" split EP with Mirror Fish.  Float away in the eerie and ethereal hiss of "All of God" below and get the cassette here from Snart Snart Records.

Dagmar Zuniga

New York artist Dagmar Zuniga makes a kind of spectral, lo-fi folk full of ghosts and tape hiss.  New album "in filth your mystery is kingdom / far smile peasant in yellow music" sounds like something beamed in from another dimension, radio waves just barely audible on old transistor radios.  Absolutely beautiful and haunting stuff.  Check out "Plenty for All the Masses" below and grab the album here from AD 93.

One Wax Wing

Okay boys and girls, let's dig on some bedroom electronica from Austin's One Wax Wing, the electronic side project of Grand Ephemeris's Jason Harrison.  "Let Slip" feels kind of like a mix of the crate-digging trip-hop sounds of the late '90s, the indie electro-folk vibes of the early '00s, and the chillwave blitz of the early '10s, at once wholly familiar and brand new.  Check out the album opening "Crate Diggers Local 227" below and download the whole EP here from the artist.

Full disclosure, i am friends with the artist.

Lone Distance Driver & Omilgop

Meekness is not weakness.  Earlier this year, South Korean artist Omilgop released the excellent "Funeral," a slowcore-tinged, lo-fi, bedroom rock opus.  He follows that up with an equally excellent collaborative effort, "Our Unsung Memories," with San Diego artist Lone Distance Driver.  "Sunset Memory" plays like something i would have played to death when i was a teenager, underground alt-rock to soothe the soul.  Check it out below and download the album here.

The Gabys

Lo-fi band The Gabys are back with a new EP of wonderful little ditties.  The new self-titled EP is not quite as fuzzy as 2022's also-self-titled EP, this time around letting the songs play like bedroom homages to the Velvet Underground.  Check out "Cursed" below and get the 7" here from Fruits & Flowers.

Jonnine

I'm not quite sure how to describe the music of Australian artist Jonnine.  Her sounds are something akin to music for ghosts, bits and pieces of different instruments and vocals floating in the ether, occasionally coming together, but more often than not just feeling like the skeletal remains of something that used to be, or the beginning of something new and different.  It's equal parts haunting and mesmerizing.  Check out "Southside Girl" below, download the new album of same name here, and order the LP here from Modern Love.

body / negative Covers Elliott Smith and Tim Buckley

Fresh off of last year's excellent "everett" LP, LA artist body / negative just dropped two wonderful stripped down and lo-fi covers of Elliott Smith's "Twilight" and Tim Buckley's "Song to the Siren."  Check them both out below and download them here from Track Number Records.

body / negative

My wife took the boys and their friends over to the Lego store and for the moment, my house is quiet.  It's just me and the dog, and the gently sounds of LA artist Andy Schiaffino and their project body / negative.  New album "everett" is out next month and features production from Midwife and mastering from Slowdive's Simon Scott.  Pre-order the album here from Track Number Records and listen to the ambient piano tones of "Sleepy" below.

they are gutting a body of water

The first thing that piqued my interest about Philly band they are gutting a body of water was the strange band name: they are gutting a body of water.  The second thing was their warbled and lo-fi mix of shoegaze and dreampop.  Check out "Violence II" below.  It gets right to the edge of sounding like sonic inebriation, and then pulls it back just in time.  New album "Lucky Styles" drops next month.  Pre-order it here for a dollar.

Nyxy Nyx

Here's some cool and quirky bedroom pop from Nyxy Nyx.  "I could write a luv song" pulls from '90s alt-rock, shoegaze, and lo-fi boredom.  I certainly would have listened to this as a teenager, and i'm listening to it now.  Check it out below and download "Thee 3rd Album" here from Strange Mono.

Old Moon

Next month brings us new music from New Hampshire bedroom pop artist Old Moon.  On "Cities of the Plain," the artist combines elements of shoegaze, dreampop, jangle pop, and post punk into a lo-fi haze, the perfect kind of fuzz to start a new season to.  Check out "Soma" below and pre-order the record here.

Los Lucha

Glasgow band Los Lucha are back with their second cassette release during this never ending pandemic, appropriately titled "Tape 2."  Lo-fi bedroom psych pop vibes abound with some shades of shoegaze hissing in the back, this time around a little rawer than last year's self-titled effort, but all the nods to artists like Galaxie 500, The Velvet Underground, and Bedhead are still there.  Gonna pour a cup of coffee and sit with this one for a little while.  Check out "Slowly Clean" below and get the tape here from the band.
