Daily Jam - Hey! Mr. Sky

Heading to Oklahoma today for my nieces' high school and college graduations.  Super stoked to be stuck in a minivan for 6+ hours.  But before i head out, here's some experimental folk from Jackie-O Motherfucker.  Listen to "Hey! Mr. Sky" below, our Daily Jam.

Strip Joint

Here's some very cool indie rock from Japanese band Strip Joint.  New tune "Mirage (Stranger's Dream)" pulls from American alt-rock and indie folk, along with elements of jazz, post rock, prog, and Japanese pop.  It's quite something.  Check it out below and pre-order the band's upcoming "Prayers in Spiral" LP here from KiliKiliVilla.

Manual

Danish artist Manual makes a chilled out mix of bedroom electronica and indie folk, kind of like a lot of the sounds we used to get in the early '00s...headphone music for afternoons in cafes or libraries.  Check out new tune "Iso" below and order the new "True Bypass" LP here from Darla Records.

Daily Jam - Got My Sunshine

I will always be a sucker for Slowdive, but during their break up years, a few members of the band made mellow indie folk as Mojave 3.  And that stuff was pretty cool too.  So here's a number from the band's third album "Excuses for Travellers."  Listen to "Got My Sunshine" below, our Daily Jam.

Geckøs

Geckøs is the collaborative project of noted indie artists M. Ward, Giant Sand member Howe Gelb, and Irish multi-instrumentalist McKowski.  The project was born from a chance encounter at a mutual friend's wedding that blossomed into a wonderful and cinematic mix of indie folk and Spanish music.  Get the self-titled LP here from Org Music and listen to the beautiful, album opening "Wedding Waltz" below.

Grass

Grass was a very short lived '00s psych folk supergroup of sorts, featuring members of Espers, Vetiver, and Brightblack Morning Light.  They recorded some tracks in 2006 that never saw the light of day...until now.  Almost two decades later, and the band's self-titled debut is ready for the masses this fall from Spiritual Pajamas.  Take a trip back to the indie-aughts with "Summer in the Wasteland" below and pre-order the LP here.

Woods

Here's a lovely new track from Woods.  Listen to "Goodnight" below and download "Goodnight b/w It Ain't Easy" here from Woodsist.

AVTT/PTTN (The Avett Brothers & Mike Patton)

Of all the collaborative music projects out there, i never in a million years would have paired indie folk country band The Avett Brothers with Mike Patton of all people.  Well, it happened, and the end product is the upcoming self-titled record from AVTT/PTTN.  First taste "Eternal Love" sounds much more in the wheelhouse of The Avett Brothers, but Patton's voice and presence make things feel a little off-kilter and strange.  I really want to hear what the rest of this thing sounds like.  Anyway, check out "Eternal Love" below and pre-order the album here from Ipecac.

Damian Jurado

Seattle based singer/songwriter Damien Jurado has been making music for almost three decades now.  A couple of years back he released an album called "Motorcycle Madness."  I suppose he was maybe unhappy with the way that record turned out because he came back to it with this year's "Motorcycle Madness ('25)," a completed version from the original mono recording featuring new mixes and instrumentation.  In my opinion, both versions are exceptional, just different, the original being more lo-fi.  Anyway, check out the excellent and dramatic "Bergamot ('25)" below and download the album here from Maraqopa Records (the vinyl is sold out).

Public Service Broadcasting

Public Service Broadcasting is a London based electronic-tinged alt-rock band whose new album "The Last Flight" is set to drop in October.  And they just released and absolute gem of a ballad from the record with "The South Atlantic" featuring lead vocals from This Is the Kit, the indie folk project of Kate Stables.  I'm going to be listening to this one on repeat for a little while today.  Check the video for the track out below and pre-order the LP here.
