Geckøs is the collaborative project of noted indie artists M. Ward, Giant Sand member Howe Gelb, and Irish multi-instrumentalist McKowski. The project was born from a chance encounter at a mutual friend's wedding that blossomed into a wonderful and cinematic mix of indie folk and Spanish music. I recently came across an excellent mixtape of modern Spanish pop music called "Papasquiaro" put together by the fine folks at Club Fonograma. The mix features an array of different sounds and textures, from electronic beats to hip-hop, psych to folk, to more traditional sounding ballads.
