Interpol

Interpol's 2002 debut album is an all timer for me, one of my favorite records ever, but they've never quite grabbed my attention with any subsequent release.  And i'm not saying that "This Mirror Weighs a Ton," the band's new LP, is anywhere near and dear to my heart as "Turn on the Bright Lights," it does at least have me paying attention again.  There's plenty of the band's early '00s post punk sound on the album, but they also branch out a little bit with moments of dreamy, albeit downcast, indie pop, like on "Iron City."  I'm going to have to give this one a few more listens.  As John Wick says, "Yeah, i'm thinking i'm back."  Listen below and get the LP here from Partisan Records.

Pentagrams of Discordia

With a name like Pentagrams of Discordia, i kind of expected dark and ominous tones, portent harbingers of doom and whatnot, but the French Guiana artist actually makes chilled out IDM with flashes of the cinematic and ambient waves.  Great stuff for centering yourself.  New album "Whispers About Radiance" is out now.  Grab it here from the artist and listen to the sprawling "Slowing of Evolution" below.

Oh man, not Dolly.  I don't know if i can think of another artist that inspired the kind of all around adoration that she did.  Metalheads and punk rockers held her in the highest regard, just like county music fans.  Religion, race, creed, political affiliation...it just did not matter.  Everyone loved her.  She was good people.  RIP Dolly Parton.

Silk Fence

buttechno & Triš

I wasn't expecting to writing about an artist called buttechno today, but here we are.  The German electronic artist and producer makes a very chill mix of trip-hop, ethereal electronica, and dub that feels like the whole world is just fading away.  New album "The Spirit" is a collaboration with Ukrainian artist Triš, and plays like some surreal dream.  Listen to "20 Flutes" below and get the album here.

Setting

Here's a trippy, sprawling new track from North Carolina post rock band Setting.  "Your Destiny Distresses Me" is a mix of spacey drone, barely there electronic hum, and improvisational jazz vibes for watching the sun go out.  Check it out below and download it here from the band.
