Deerhoof
New music from San Francisco based band Deerhoof is always interesting. They somehow manage to try out all new kinds of sounds while still sounding completely like themselves. New album "Noble and Godlike in Ruin" is out next month, and the band describes it as "a grotesque in two acts." Hmm. We'll have to hear what that's all about. In the meantime, check out the album closing "Immigrant Songs" below and pre-order the LP here from Joyful Noise Recordings.

Dumb Numbers
Dumb Numbers is the noise rock project of LA artist Adam Harding. His latest release, which dropped today, is a spooky cover of a spooky song, "In Heaven" from David Lynch's "Eraserhead." The track features an assist from Dale Crover and Thor Harris. Check it out below and download it here from Joyful Noise Recordings.

Thor Harris
Austin's Thor Harris made a name for himself drumming for Swans and shit-posting online about Nazis and the best way to punch them. When he's not doing those things, he makes all manner of experimental music. His latest is the upcoming "Doom Dub II," which finds him channeling dub reggae into ghostly ruminations with the aid of artists like Adam Harding, Zola Jesus, Marissa Nadler, and more. Check out the Zola Jesus, Craig Ross, and Dorian Wood assisted "Day 447 of Quarantine" below and pre-order the album here from Joyful Noise.

The Folk Implosion
We're getting even more frequencies from the '90s today with the first new music from The Folk Implosion in nearly 20 years. The duo of Lou Barlow and John Davis began recording again during the pandemic remotely from different states finally ending with new EP "Feel It If You Feel It." A full-length is in the works, but in the meantime, listen to "Don't Give It Away" below and order the 12" here from Joyful Noise.

Sound of Ceres
A decade back or so, i remember getting into a band called Candy Claws who made a kind of dreamy, shoegaze-tinged psych pop. They dropped off my radar years ago, but it's members, Ryan and K Hover, still make music together, now as Sound of Ceres. There's still plenty of dreamy psych going around, but with an added, almost kosmische-tinged and cinematic flare. Check out "Arm of Golden Flame" below and pre-order the upcoming "Emerald Sea" LP here from Joyful Noise.

Springtime
There is an absurd amount of new music making its way into my ears this morning, which is as it should be and usually is during the spring. Maybe it's the lead up to SXSW, or maybe it's just the forces that be doing something cool for my birthday. At any rate, it is much appreciated. And so we have the new "Night Raver" EP from Australian band Springtime, an avant garde mix of noise, psychedelia, jazz, and more. Check out the sprawling "The Names of the Plague" below and download the EP here from Joyful Noise.

Kidbug
Here's a '90s alt-rock throwback jam from the kinda indie rock supergroup Kidbug. Featuring members of Best Coast, Eerie Wanda, and the always formidable Thor Harris of Swans, the band channels all those crunchy old sounds and feelings i grew up loving. Check out "Lovesick" below and get the self-titled album here via Joyful Noise.

Marijuana Deathsquads - The World Beyond
I caught a performance from Minneapolis noise band Marijuana Deathsquads many years ago at SXSW as part of showcase of Minneapolis artists that culminated in a performance from Gayngs, a kind of Minneapolis supergroup that featured essentially every single performer that was there that night. They were great. They were noisy. They totally dropped off my radar after that, but now have a new benefit single out for the One Tree Planted organization. Check out their weird and murky cover of Swamp Dogg's "The World Beyond," and get it here from Joyful Noise. All of the proceeds go to the charity.

Dale Crover
Melvins drummer Dale Crover just released a solo record, something that kind of feels like it was 30 years in the making. "The Fickle Finger of Fate" finds the artist swerving all over the place across 20 tracks and 30+ minutes, but feels the most at home on the grungier punk tracks. Listen to "Big Uns" below and cop the record from Joyful Noise.
