Weird Nightmare

Weird Nightmare is the side project of METZ front man Alex Edkins, and he just dropped a fun cover of The Troggs' "Our Love Will Still Be There."  Check it out below and download it here from Sub Pop.

Daily Jam - Andromeda's Suffering

Sometimes i'll go back and listen to an album or an artist that i haven't listened to in a while, and am just completely blown away.  Alice Coltrane is one of those artists.  "Lord of Lords" is one of those albums.  Amazing spiritual, avant-garde orchestral jazz.  Listen to "Andromeda's Suffering" below, our Daily Jam.

Trhä

A lot of black metal incorporates dungeon synth into its sound these days, and the pairing of the two genres is really quite wonderful.  The latest from Trhä continues that trend.  Check out the raw and lo-fi "endlhënven" below and download the new "endlhëdëhaj qáshmëna ëlh vim innivte" album here for a dollar.

Daily Jam - Heartbreakin Man

I still love those first two My Morning Jacket albums.  Here's a track from the first one.  Listen to "Heartbreakin Man" below, our Daily Jam.

Zetra

New music from Zetra.  Always a good thing.  Check out "Hopeless Odyssey" below and download it here.

Pink Milk

Here's a wonderful new ballad about unrequited love from Swedish duo Pink Milk.  There's a lot of autumnal vibes on "River of Glass," and i am here for them.  Check it out below and download it here from the band.

Daily Jam - Without Stopping

Back to the salt mines.  Back to the salt mines.  Here's a practically oozing number from Bowery Electric to start your week with.  It's kinda shoegaze, kinda drone, kinda trip-hop, kinda slowcore.  Listen to "Without Stopping" below, our Daily Jam.

Connections

Here's some nice alt-rock from Columbus, Ohio's Connections.  There's a little bit of college rock, a little bit of lo-fi crunch, a little bit of jangle...cool stuff for a Sunday morning.  Check out "In Space" below and pre-order the band's upcoming album "Cool Change" here from Trouble In Mind.

Daily Jam - Exotika

I don't want to go back to work tomorrow.  I just want to hang out and listen to Chris and Cosey instead.  Starting now with "Exotika."  Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Klack

We got some new music from Wisconsin industrial electronic act Klack this week.  A new album is on the horizon, but they've given us a taste with the "Beat Unity" single.  Dig on those classic Wax Trax vibes.  Listen "Beat Unity (Beats Mix)" below and download here.

Daily Jam - Snow Brigade

Here's some '00s alt-rock from Danish band Mew for your Saturday.  Check out "Snow Brigade" below, our Daily Jam.

GLARE

Here's a new track from Texas shoegaze band GLARE, taken from a split with fellow sound makers All Under Heaven and Leaving Time.  Listen to "Sunny" below and download it here from Sunday Drive Records.

Friday Horror Trailer - The Werewolf Vs. Vampire Woman

Daily Jam - High Hopes

I don't really go for much Pink Floyd post Roger Waters, but i do have a soft spot for 1994's "The Division Bell."  Just a timing/place kind of thing i think.  Anyway, here's "High Hopes" on this blackest of Fridays for our Daily Jam.

Röyksopp

All the European electronic duos are coming back into my life.  Norway's Röyksopp are back with a 3-part album called "Profound Mysteries."  Listen to the chilled out "The Ladder" from the first part below, download all three here and order individual records or the 6LP collection here

Daily Jam - I'm Alive

It's Thanksgiving.  It's raining.  I just got the bird in the oven about 15 minutes ago, and i'm waiting for my mom and brother to arrive.  I'm also thinking about breaking my alcohol before noon rule.  Anyway, here's to keeping the day mellow, starting with some Australian surf folk from Peter Howe, taken from the 1971 film "Morning of the Earth."  Check out "I'm Alive" below, our Daily Jam.  Happy Thanksgiving.

Principles of Geometry

They've been leading up to it for months, and now French electronic duo Principles of Geometry have released their massive 3LP album "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ."  Check out the IDM vibes of "Tape Voices" below and order the record here from Tiger Sushi.

Daily Jam - Big Boring Wedding

Looking back, discovering Guided By Voices in high school was a game changer.  Here's they are with "Big Boring Wedding," our Daily Jam.

Modern Stars

Here's some psychedelic space rock from Italian band Modern Stars to get you floating in the right direction this morning.  Listen to "Starlight" below and get the band's "Space Trips for the Masses" LP here.

Daily Jam - Wusses

Monroe Mustang was one of the first local bands i heard when i moved to Austin back in 1997.  I was instantly hooked on their particular brand of lo-fi alt-rock.  Check out "Wusses" below, our Daily Jam.

Velveteen

That classic shoegaze sound is never going anywhere.  I love that.  Even now, some kid is hearing the layered guitar and ethereal reverb of My Bloody Valentine or Slowdive or Lush for the first time, and then creating their own swirl and noise.  Check out UK band Velveteen's "If You Could" below and get the new "Empty Crush" LP here from Shelflife Records.

Daily Jam - Livin' on the Edge

I was at the grocery store the other day, and they were playing Aerosmith's "Livin' on the Edge" over their PA system.  Aside from the fact that it's depressing that popular music from teenage years is now the backdrop muzak for grocery stores, i was pleasantly surprised that "Livin' on the Edge" totally slaps.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Death Valley Girls

February brings us a new album from the great LA garage rock band Death Valley Girls.  Check out new tune "What Are the Odds" below and pre-order the upcoming "Islands in the Sky" LP here from Suicide Squeeze.

Daily Jam - Your Endless Dream

Here's a track from one of my favorite albums of 2008.  Check out the melancholy quasi-spaghetti western sounds of "Your Endless Dream" by Get Well Soon, our Daily Jam.

Ivan The Tolerable

UK artist Ivan The Tolerable has a new record out of jazz, psych, and other assorted weirdness.  Check out the practically oozing "The Prince of Wits" below and order "The Aleph" LP here from Echodelick Records.

Daily Jam - Elephant Gun

It's cold and rainy here today, and i'm about to start prepping some chili for dinner tonight, slow-cooking it for the next 7 or 8 hours.  Anyway, here's Beirut with "Elephant Gun," our Daily Jam.

Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross

I was unaware that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross were providing the score for Luca Guadagnino's new vampire/love story/road movie "Bones and All," but here we are.  These two knock it out of the park on every single film score they make, and there's no reason to think this one will be any different.  Check out "(You Made It Feel Like) Home" below and download the whole soundtrack here from The Null Corporation.

Friday Horror Trailer - FleshEater

Daily Jam - Bobo Germaine

Every now and then i'll hear some old song for the first time, but it will feel like maybe i've known it all along.  I haven't, but it feels that way.  Anyway, that's the vibe i got when hearing the funk, world, and soul sounds of "Bobo Germaine" by Zirihi Bony Castro for the first time earlier this year.  Like it's always been there.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

SUSS

Here's a piece of cold and depressed ambient country music from New York's SUSS.  The band has been dropping EP's since late last year that will all be compiled on their upcoming, self-titled album next month.  Listen to "Winter Was Hard" below and pre-order the record here from Northern Spy.

Daily Jam - Sleep a Million Years

California artist Kathy Heideman released one album of folk and country back in the '70s and then faded into obscurity.  Naturally, the good folks at Numero Group sniffed it out a few decades later and re-released it back into the wild.  Here's a wonderful track from it to help move us towards the end of the week.  Listen to "Sleep a Million Years" below, our Daily Jam.

Cigarettes After Sex

New York band Cigarettes After Sex dropped a new track yesterday.  Check out the hazy and melancholy (aren't they all?) "Pistol" below and download it here from Partisan Records.

Someday i may have to do a "Daily Jam (Problematic Artist Week)" to test the waters around these parts.  Speaking of, here's Red House Painters with "Song for a Blue Guitar," our Daily Jam.

Julien Wilson

Australian saxophonist Julien Wilson makes spacey, improvised, and atmospheric jazz that hits your brain like radio waves broadcast to you from...somewhere.  Music for ambient spaces.  New album "Mutations" is out now.  Get it here from Lionsharecords, and listen to the wandering and mysterious "There Wasn't a Race" below.

Daily Jam - Saviour Piece

Here's a piece of '00s electro pop that's always put a little bit of sway in my step.  Listen to "Saviour Piece" by Snap Ant below, our Daily Jam.

FVNERALS

It's actually been cold the last couple of days (for Central Texas anyway), and it looks like it's going to stay that way for the next week or so.  That calls for some appropriate music.  How about some German atmospheric doom metal about the void and the silence of extinction?  Yeah, that will do.  And so we have "Let the Earth Be Silent," the upcoming new album from FVNERALS.  Check out the ominous "For Horror Eats the Light" below and pre-order the record here from Prophecy Productions.

Daily Jam - So This Is It

Here's a track from the gone but not forgotten Austin alt-rock duo Slow Reader to kick start our week.  Listen to "So This Is It" below, our Daily Jam.

Fever Ray

When we got new music from Fever Ray a couple weeks ago, i wondered if it was an indication of a new record on the way, and it turns out that it was.  "Radical Romantics" comes out in March.  Listen to our second taste of the album with "Carbon Dioxide" below and pre-order the record here from Mute.

CS + Kreme

In the '00s, i was a big fan of Australian band Devastations.  They've been broken up for over a decade now, but i do my best to keep track of the former members and their current projects.  One of those former members is Conrad Standish, currently making strange music with fellow Aussie Sam Karmel as the experimental duo CS + Kreme.  It's hard to really pin down the sound the duo create, a hypnotic mix of electronic, folk, drone, ambient, and more.  New album "Orange" is out now.  Get it here from The Trilogy Tapes and listen to "Would You Like a Vampire" featuring vocals from UK folk singer Bridget St John below.

Shirley Hurt

Cure those Sunday morning blues with the Sunday morning folk sounds of Toronto's Shirley Hurt.  The artist's self-titled album comes out next month.  Get it here from Telephone Explosion Records and listen to "Empty Hands" below.

Fleur

Here's some throwback '60s psychedelia and French Ye-Ye girl pop from Dutch artist Fleur.  "Chanson d'automne" sounds like a dusty old record picked up on a whim in a record store on a cloudy day.  Just lovely.  Check it out below and get the artist's "Bouquet Champetre" LP here.

City of Industry

Seattle hardcore punk band City of Industry just dropped their latest album ""Spiritual West" on Friday.  The album is a mix of noisy, abrasive riffs, guttural vocals, and strange moments of ethereal ambience.  Check out "Dissociation" below and get the album here.

Daily Jam (Covers Week) - Golden Hair

Ending this week of cover songs with Slowdive's airy and ethereal version of Syd Barrett's "Golden Hair."  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Friday Horror Trailer - Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde

Sault

Last week, the mysterious and prolific UK outfit Sault dropped five new albums for free download if you could crack the password.  A simple Google search took care of that.  And now this week, they're all available for vinyl pre-order.  All five have their own distinct sound and flavor, but are all worth your time.  "Untitled (God)" carries on the gospel, funk, soul, and hip-hop of the previous two "Untitled" albums, while "AIIR" continues the Sun-Ra inspired cosmic jazz of this year's prior release "AIR."  "Earth" brings in the African tones and beats, and "11" sequences itself behind the group's previous numeric releases.  Finally, we have "Today & Tomorrow" which brings in some lo-fi psych blues riffs and children's vocals a la the Langley Schools Music Project.  Just phenomenal stuff all around.  I spent a bit of money yesterday.  Anyway, give them all a listen, check out "Heal the World" below, and pre-order everything here from Forever Living Originals.

Daily Jam (Covers Week) - Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow

I love Francoise Hardy, and pretty much have ever since first hearing her on an Air B-side 25 years ago.  Here's her cover of The Shirelles' "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow," our Daily Jam.
