Haylie Davis

Here's a nice, soothing slice of soft rock-tinged cosmic Americana from LA artist Haylie Davis.  "Country Boy" plays like some kind of AM radio daydream, have remembered bits of melancholy pop and nostalgia-tinted sounds.  Check it out below and download it here from Fire Records.

Daily Jam (October Edition) - You Call It a Graveyard (I Call It Home)

The Coffinshakers are a Swedish country and rockabilly band steeped in the kind of spooky imagery and energy you used to see in many a California garage and surf rock band in the '60s.  Here's a cut from the band's 1999 debut album "We Are the Undead."  Listen to "You Call It a Graveyard (I Call It Home)" below, our Daily Jam.

AVTT/PTTN (The Avett Brothers & Mike Patton)

Of all the collaborative music projects out there, i never in a million years would have paired indie folk country band The Avett Brothers with Mike Patton of all people.  Well, it happened, and the end product is the upcoming self-titled record from AVTT/PTTN.  First taste "Eternal Love" sounds much more in the wheelhouse of The Avett Brothers, but Patton's voice and presence make things feel a little off-kilter and strange.  I really want to hear what the rest of this thing sounds like.  Anyway, check out "Eternal Love" below and pre-order the album here from Ipecac.

Alien Eyelid

Hailing from Houston, Texas, Alien Eyelid make a kind of cosmic Americana steeped in the sounds of alt-country and psych-folk playing to the misfits and drunks at the honkytonk at the edge of the universe.  The band's new album "Vinegar Hill" is out in September.  Pre-order it here and listen to the stellar title track below.

Joseph Allred

Boston guitarist Joseph Allred has been making music for a number of years now, releasing over 20 albums in that time, and somehow, it all feels like it was leading to the upcoming new album "Old Time Fantasias" which drops this Friday.  The album feels huge (even at just 7 tracks), incorporating elements of folk, country, blues, ragtime, pop, ambient soundscapes, and so much more to create a kind of cinematic instrumental Americana, a soundtrack to life.  Check out the wonderful and swaying "Moon Dance" below and order the new LP here from Scissor Tail Records.

Natalie Bergman

Chicago artist Natalie Bergman makes a wonderful style of indie pop that pulls from singer/songwriter folk, '60s R&B, psych pop, soul, and country.  Her new album "My Home Is Not in this World" is out in July.  Pre-order the LP here from Third Man Records and watch the video for "Dance" below.

Black Lips

Fresh off of March's country stomp jammer "Satan (I'm Tired of You)," long running Atlanta garage rock band the Black Lips are back with another new tune with "Wild One."  The track combines western vibes with old spacey synth sounds and outlaw pastiche.  It kicks ass.  Check it out below and download it here from Fire Records.

Bonnie Dobson & The Hanging Stars

UK band The Hanging Stars make a lovely mix of psych, folk, alt-country, and Americana, the kind of thing you would expect to arise from the southwestern canyons of the US.  Their upcoming new album "Dreams" finds the band paired with '60s/'70s Canadian singer/songwriter and psych folk artist Bonnie Dobson.  Check out new song "Baby's Got the Blues" below and pre-order the LP here from Loose.

The Royal Arctic Institute

On Monday, all the absolute worst people you know are going to be high-fiving each other and spewing hate at everyone who doesn't think or look just like them.  I think this somber, minor-key interpretation of Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" by New York ambient country trio SUSS should soundtrack the whole affair perfectly.  Listen below and download it here from Northern Spy Records.

Liam Grant

Boston, Massachusetts guitarist Liam Grant makes an almost ambient style of Americana and guitar folk, lo-fi fuzz and 12-string acoustic reverberations that feel like quiet calls to heaven.  New song "Insult to Injury" sounds like the kind of thing that should accompany a film about the plains, people working the land, and the nature all around.  Get lost in it below and pre-order the upcoming "Prodigal Son" LP here from VHF.
