Jonathan Bree

Oh man, i had no idea this was a thing.  Dallas R&B artist and all around hip chick Erykah Badu is dropping a new album with hip-hop producer extraordinaire The Alchemist.  Hell yeah.  And it features guest appearances from Earl Sweatshirt, Westside Gunn, Kamasi Washington, and more.  Check out the groovy "Witch Doctor" below and grab the "Before the World Blows" LP here from Young.

Bricknasty

One of the artists that i meant to check out during SXSW is Dublin's experimental R&B, hip-hop, and neo-soul artist Bricknasty.  Typically during the fest i try to see some stuff outside of my normal wheelhouse, but it was not to be this year with this particular artist.  The timing just never worked.  Anyway, digging into his "Blacks Law" album from last October, and it's a weird, sometimes glitchy, sometimes smooth and soulful affair.  Check out a combination of all of that on "Bombs" below and download the album here from FAMM.

Q Lazzarus

Later this year, we are getting a documentary film about the life and music of the late great Diane Luckey, better known as Q Lazzarus.  In conjunction with the film release, the good folks at Sacred Bones Records are set to release the companion soundtrack to "Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus," the most complete collection of the artist's music ever heard.  Outside of "Goodbye Horses" and a few snippets of demo tracks here and there, these tunes will be new to us all.  One such track is the complete cover of the Talking Heads' "Heaven."  Check it out below and pre-order the LP here.
