Friday Horror Trailer - Remote Control

Daily Jam - Sunrise

I've been doing some deep dives on YouTube lately, sifting through a veritable tsunami of obscure albums and singles from all over the world in various genres.  And the last few days have proved overwhelmingly fruitful with dozens of awesome songs coming across my eardrums to my utter delight.  Like this cool mix of psychedelia and easy listening soft rock from the Japanese group Inoue Takayuki Band.  Dig on the tranquil, melancholy sounds of "Sunrise" below, our Daily Jam.

Massive Attack & Tom Waits

I don't know about the rest of you, but i certainly wasn't expecting to hear a collaboration between Massive Attack and Tom Waits this morning.  But it's here, and it's really damn good.  "Boots on the Ground" simmers with equal parts anguish and anger, a visceral sneer and middle finger to the powers that be, and the first new work from either artist in quite a long while.  Check the track out below and get it here from Play It Again Sam.

Boards of Canada

With seemingly zero fanfare or notice today, electronic duo Boards of Canada dropped a new track this morning called "Tape 05."  And folks, it's beautiful.  Ambient waves and gentle strokes of sound to soothe you inner soul.  I've listened to it four or five times in a row now.  Check it out below and be on the lookout for what is hopefully their first new album in 13 years.

Heavy Meddo

Here's some new alt-rock from Austin band Heavy Meddo.  "Hairpiece Horseman" has a cool, lo-fi thing going on that's catchy as hell and kinda sends me back to being a teenager.  Check it out below and download it here from the band.

Daily Jam - I Celebrate Myself

I love how so many notorious Italian movies are accompanied by the lush and gorgeous film scores.  Joe D'Amato's eroti-gore entry "Emanuelle in America" fits that bill perfectly with a wonderful soundtrack from composer Nico Fidenco.  Check out the lyrical version of the film's theme song, also called "I Celebrate Myself," as performed by Italian prog band Harmonium.  Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Angine de Poitrine

Quebec band Angine de Poitrine is making a lot of noise right now.  I've been seeing their stuff pop up all over the place online, so i decided to check out the hype myself...and holy shit!  The group's got an angular post punk thing going on, but with elements of math rock, psychedelia, and so much more in the mix.  It's wild.  Listen to "Fabienk" below and try not to wiggle.  You can download the new "Vol. II" album here and pre-order an upcoming vinyl release from Levitation here.

A Somber Funeral

I love it when you hear a band name and immediately know what you're about to get into.  With Germany's A Somber Funeral, my guess was either dark and gloomy dungeon synth or noisy, lo-fi black metal.  Turns out it's both!  Check out "Maybe She's Dreaming" featuring Winterherz below and grab the "Since You Left These Shores" LP here from Silent Watcher Records.

Daily Jam - Golgotha Tenement Blues

Over 30 years later, and the soundtrack to "The Crow" still whips.  I was 15 when it came out, and it's stayed with me since.  Here's Machines of Loving Grace's contribution.  Listen to "Golgotha Tenement Blues" below, our Daily Jam.

The Laughing Chimes

Before Ohio band The Laughing Chimes released last year's fantastic "Whispers in the Speech Machine" LP, they were working on something a little lighter and janglier than that album turned out being.  That work is seeing the light of day next month with the impending release of "Behind Your Blue Fields," a collection of songs and demos that just didn't fit the first time around.  Check out the wonderfully poppy title track below and pre-order the cassette here from Slumberland.

Cremation Lily

Here's some eerie and ethereal new music from UK artist Cremation Lily.  "Coastal Ghost I" plays like alien static from some lost world, a dreamy sonic vista.  Check it out below and snag one of the last few copies of the "Coastal Ghosts" cassingle here from the artist.

Daily Jam - Maritime (Mike Patton Remix)

Another busy day, and it's not over yet, and i'm already exhausted.  Here's Mike Patton's excellent remix of the ISIS track "Maritime" to get me over the hill.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Cathedral Bells

It's kind of a gloomy Monday morning here in Central Texas.  Here's some appropriately moody music to go along with it.  LA band Cathedral Bells just dropped their new album "Parallel Dreams" last week.  Grab the LP here from Artoffact Records and dig on the dreamy mix of synth pop and shoegaze that is album opener "Crashing Out."

Daily Jam - So Much Water

Tacoma Radar was a Scottish slowcore band that put out a couple of records in the early '00s that for whatever reason completely missed my notice.  But the good folks at Numero Group reissued the band's work last year, and i'm diving head in now.  Check out the lovely "So Much Water" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Le Sacre du Printemps

A little over a decade ago, the Brian Jonestown Massacre released "Musique de Film Imagine," an imaginary soundtrack in homage and tribute to the French directors and films of the '50s and '60s.  It's excellent and certainly fits right into my wheelhouse.  Check out the Asia Argento assisted "Le Sacre du Printemps" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Thru and Thru

I got to let my Louisiana boy flag fly today, spending the afternoon at a friend's crawfish boil.  And now i'm fat and happy, maybe a little drunk, and my lips and fingertips are still burning a little bit from all the spice.  As it should be.  Anyway, let me celebrate the afternoon with some awesome and weird music (that's also 15!!! years old) from Gang Gang Dance.  Listen to "Thru and Thru" below, our Daily Jam.

Younger Brother

Here's some chill, electronic pop from UK duo Younger Brother that kind of sounds like it would have fit in nicely on one of the "Chillout Sessions" compilation CD's the Ministry of Sound used to release back in the late '90s/early '00s.  Cool stuff to wind an afternoon down to.  Listen to "I Belong to Nowhere" below and pre-order the upcoming "Mutually Assured Distraction" LP here from TwistedMusicUk.

Here's some new avant garde electronica and new age from New York's Discovery Zone.  "Library Copy Do Not Remove" was originally written and performed for an immersive multimedia art project for the historic Zeiss GroB Planetarium globe in Berlin.  Now it's coming to your stereo.  Check out the sparse and bubbling "Dusk" below and pre-order the LP here from RVNG Intl.

Just Mustard Remixed by Daniel Avery

Irish post punk band Just Mustard just released a new Daniel Avery remix of "Endless Deathless," a standout from last year's "We Were Just Here" LP.  The remix has a '90s electronica feel to it that's really taking me back.  Dig on it below and download here from Partisan Records.

I watched the McCartney documentary a few weeks ago, and it's made me go back and check out a lot of the artist's post-Beatles work.  One song i've always liked is the sweet and melancholy "Junk" from the first solo record.  Listen to it below, our Daily Jam.

Studio Kosmische

I sometimes think i need to start meditating.  Maybe it could alleviate some of the stress i get from the daily grind of working, parenting, home-ownership, and the impending end of the world.  And i can start with the experimental sounds of Studio Kosmische.  The duo's new album, "Electronic Meditation for Inner Space Travel," features sax from Russian artist Ivan Bursov and travels in the sounds of smooth and funky psychedelia, free form jazz, and new age ambience.  Perfect stuff for locating that inner peace.  Check out "In Search of Magick" below and get the LP here from Dreamlord Recordings.

Daily Jam - Blooded and Blossom-Blown

With as much as i love shoegaze music, for whatever reason, i completely dropped the ball on Michigan duo lovesliescrushing.  They've been releasing music since the early '90, and somehow i just missed them...for years...decades even.  Anyway, here's a lovely track from their ethereal 1997 album "Xuvetyn."  Listen to "Blooded and Blossom-Blown" below, our Daily Jam.

Blak Saagan

Here is some strange and excellent new music from Venetian composer Blak Saagan.  Upcoming new album "Un Sequestro Lungo 10.000 Anni" is a massive, 108-minute, 3-disc concept album full of dark ambient electronics, industrial music, and experimental noise described as a soundtrack to a "dystopian city through flashes of futuristic fourth world visions, warehouse 80s rave-ups, meditative trance and dark rumblings."  For the release, the artist paired with Iranian illustrator Majid Bita to create an accompanying book of art.  This whole thing sounds pretty damn rad.  Listen to "Benzocrazia" below and pre-order it all here from Maple Death.

she's green

The lovely Minneapolis dreampop/shoegaze band she's green dropped a beautiful new track for our listening pleasure a couple of days ago.  "Paper Thin" will be on the upcoming full-length album "Swallowtail" in July.  Keep an eye out here for that album's release, listen to the single below, and download it here.

Herb Lore

Here's some stark and gray psych folk from Brooklyn project Herb Lore.  New album "Mysticism" came together during the artist's trips through the Pacific Northwest and Canada's eastern coast.  The album is a sprawling mix of folk, drone, field recordings, and hypnotic tones, a search for some kind of greater inner tranquility.  Check out "Interrupted Meditation" below and grab the cassette here from Inner Islands.

Daniel Romano's Outfit

Steeped in the sounds of the '70s comes Daniel Romano's Outfit.  The Welland, Ontario based band fuses power pop with bits of psychedelia, country, folk, and good old fashioned rock n' roll.  Grab the new "Preservers of the Pearl" LP here from You've Changed Records and listen to the horn-fueled title track below.

Daily Jam - Drums for Peace

Like a lot of weekends, we were just about to head out to my 10-year old's soccer game...and then the storm came.  It's raining cats and dogs here, and apparently the whole field is under water, thunder and lighting, high winds and dark skies.  So, it was cancelled.  Nothing to do now i guess except to sit back and listen to the jazz fusion sounds of LA jazz pianist Hampton Hawes.  Here's a track from his 1972 album "Universe."  Listen to "Drums for Peace" below, our Daily Jam.
