Calibre

After that K-pop, why not settle things down with some ambient electronica from Belfast artist Calibre.  New album "Tricklemore Sea" is out now.  Get it here from Signature Recordings and listen to the hushed and hypnotic title track below.

Daily Jam - Golden

The whole "KPop Demon Hunters" thing is not my bag.  Not even slightly.  It's not my boys' thing either.  My wife, on the other hand, absolutely loves it.  All that being said, if i happen to hear "Golden" from the movie's protagonist K-pop trio Huntr/x, it will be in my head for days and days and days.  And now it can be in yours too.  Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Tokyo Shoegazer

Here's a little mix of post rock, post punk, and shoegaze from Japanese band Tokyo Shoegazer.  The group's new album "Remains" is out now.  Get it here and listen to "Wisteria" below.

Daily Jam - Untitled

Doing a precursory search for Areknuteknyterne, and i can't find much information on the band.  It appears they were a duo from Norway in the mid '80s, releasing a couple of cassettes of lo-fi death rock and post punk.  "Untitled" comes from a compilation cassette from 1986.  It kicks ass.  I could listen to this guitar riff all day long.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

NNHMN

Berlin's NNHMN make moody darkwave synth pop for gothy nightclubs and the black nails and lipstick set.  The band's upcoming "Opera of Lust & The Art of Sorrow II" LP is out in July (though it really feels more like an autumn kind of release).  Pre-order it here and listen to "Cold Like Steel" below.

Miracle

Zombi's Steve Moore and multi-instrumentalist Daniel O'Sullivan have teamed together again to bring us another round of synth pop as Miracle.  The duo's new "The Living Likeness of My Electric Daemon" LP is out in June from Relapse.  Pre-order it here and listen to the industrial-tinged "PVC Vest" below.

Lai/Lencastre/Reviriego

Here is some absolutely haunting, and kind of terrifying, new avant garde and improvisational jazz from the trio of Spanish artists Clara Lai (piano) and Alex Reviriego (electronics), and Portuguese artist Jose Lencastre (alto and tenor sax).  The album is "Instante," and it's a stark collection of visceral soundscapes.  Check out the album closing "Esencia," a creeping eulogy for the end of all things.  Listen below and pre-order the album here from Phonogram Unit.

The Empress

The Empress is the groove laden, library sounds homage project of Paul Elliot (Pleasurewood) and Paul Osborne (Project Gemini).  The duo's upcoming new album "Fortune Teller" feels like a fuzzy, mystical soundtrack to an Italian crime drama or giallo.  Check out "Switch Blade" below and pre-order the LP here from Library of the Occult.

Daily Jam - Hypnotisé

Working from home alone this morning.  Just me and the dog.  It's quiet and gray, the perfect time for some spacey, easy listening prog pop from French Canadian musician Gilles Valiquette.  I came across "Hypnotisé" the other night during a YouTube deep dive and really dug the sparse dreaminess of it all.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Vorhex Angel

Here's some new melancholy music from Massachusetts artist Vorhex Angel.  "Okie's Song I" is a mix of alt-country, Americana, and indie rock just begging to be played from the stereo of a pickup truck driving down a dusty highway into the ever expanding landscape.  Check it out below and pre-order the upcoming "Drain" LP here from Soul Selects.

Chanel Beads

Back in 2024, New York avant garde indie pop artist Chanel Beads released an album called "Your Day Will Come."  It is now 2026, and the Chanel Beads are set to release their new album also called "Your Day Will Come."  Check out the excellently titled "The Coward Forgets His Nightmare" below and pre-order the LP here from Jagjaguwar.

Miss Grit

Brooklyn electro-pop artist Miss Grit dropped her new "Under My Umbrella" album a couple weeks ago, and it plays like an airy, synthy dream.  Check out the gorgeous album opening "Tourist Mind" below and get the LP here from Mute.

Daily Jam - Velluto Nero M24

Here's a beautiful piece of music by Italian composer Alberto Baldan Bembo recorded for the soundtrack to the 1976 sexploitation flick "Velluto Nero," AKA "Smoot Velvet, Raw Silk," AKA "Black Velvet."  Listen to the dreamy and hypnotic "Velluto Nero M24" below, our Daily Jam.

The Creem

Ratatat's Mike Stroud and Islands' Nick Thorburn have joined forces and become The Creem.  The duo have a indie rock meets throwback '70s pop rock sound going for them that's pretty infectious.  Pre-order the "A Taste of Cherry" LP here and listen to "Taste of Cherry" below.

Lalalar

Get ready to groove with some new music from Istanbul's Lalalar.  The band's blend of Turkish psychedelia, Anatolian rock, disco, funk, and pop are all there on "Bi Bok Anlamadim," and we're all the better for it.  Check it out below and pre-order the forthcoming 7" here from Les Disques Bongo Joe.

Storefront Church

LA artist Storefront Church makes avant garde alt-rock that pulls from noise rock, electro-pop, death rock, and punk.  Check out new song "Still Lying" below and download it here.

LINGUA IGNOTA

Experimental artist LINGUA IGNOTA just released a collection of demos, instrumentals, field recordings, sketches, etc. that were written and recorded from 2019-2021.  Check out the intense and haunting piano ballad "Man Is Like a Spring Flower" demo below and download the "Sinner Get Ready // Fragments" album here from the artist.

Daily Jam - Depression

I mentioned a couple weeks ago that i've been going down some music rabbit holes on YouTube, discovering all kinds of cool old tunes.  Here's an organ heavy garage rock track from the '60s from The Specters.  Listen to "Depression" below, our Daily Jam.

Jumprope

I got to got see Tripping Daisy last night, scratching off a major miss from my high school / college days.  They were great.  Opening for them was the lovely Houston garage pop band Jumprope.  Here they are covering Enya.  Listen to "Only Time" below and download it here.

Daily Jam - Camel Walk

Let's get twangy this Sunday afternoon with a little psychobilly rock from Southern Culture on the Skids.  Listen to "Camel Walk" below, our Daily Jam.

Holy Motors

Estonian alt-rock group Holy Motors dropped a twangy and reverby new track earlier this week with "Heaven's Night."  It sounds like watching a sunset in the desert.  Check it out below and download it here from Wharf Cat Records.

Daily Jam - I'm a Bum

Here's a little nugget from Berlin based beat and garage rock band The Gloomys.  Check out "I'm a Bum" below, our Daily Jam.

Cate Kennan

Things get a little surreal and hazy on "Devil's Hour," a new track from California artist Cate Kennan's upcoming album "Shadows."  Dreamy, spectral vibes abound.  Check it out below and pre-order the LP here from Kranky.

Squid guitarist Anton Pearson flies solo on his upcoming "Driving Through Belgium" LP, a collection of avant garde tracks wading through the sounds of drone and ambient music.  Check out "Tintinnabulation I" below and pre-order the album here from World of Echo.

Friday Horror Trailer - Frostbiter: Wrath of The Wendigo

Daily Jam - Wolves, Lower

I recently finished reading Peter Ames Carlin's R.E.M. biography, "The Name of This Band Is R.E.M."  I've been mainlining the band's catalog ever since.  Here's a track from their first EP.  Listen to "Wolves, Lower" below, our Daily Jam.

STOMP TALK MODSTONE

Japanese shoegazers STOMP TALK MODSTONE just released some new music earlier this week with the "Summer '97" EP.  Check out the swirling haze and fuzz of the title track below and download the EP here.

Posting about Canadian band Eric's Trip yesterday led me straight to Sloan.  Here's a track from their 1996 album "One Chord to Another."  Listen to "Junior Panthers" below, our Daily Jam.

White Fence

LA artist Tim Presley goes solo again with his White Fence project and new album "Orange."  Usual collaborator Ty Segall comes along for the ride behind the drumkit and the mixing board.  Check out the mellow and melancholy, garage psych-tinged, singer/songwriter vibe of "Unread Books" below and grab a copy of the LP here from Drag City.

The Mellons

Salt Lake City band The Mellons are back in June with a new album of throwback, kaleidoscopic psychedelic pop.  Check out new tune "Things Gone By" below and pre-order the forthcoming "The Mellons in Color" LP here from Earth Libraries.

Friko

I caught Chicago indie rock band Friko a couple of years ago at an instore performance at an Austin record shop during SXSW.  They had that '00s indie sound down pat back then, and have only perfected it more since then.  Get their new "Something Worth Waiting For" LP here from ATO and listen to "Seven Degrees" below.

Daily Jam - Stove

There are so very many bands and artists whose names crossed my ears during my pre-teen and teenage years only to fade away as i grew older, lost to time and barely remembered memories.  I've spent the last 25 years hunting them down.  Here's a lo-fi track from Canada's Eric's Trip, a name i assume is a nod to the Sonic Youth song, that i first heard as a cover by fellow Canadian power pop band Sloan.  Check out "Stove" below, our Daily Jam.

Sam Gendel & Sam Wilkes

LA experimental jazz artists Sam Gendel and Sam Wilkes just released their latest collaborative album "Unrelated," an airy, dreamy record of ambient new age and jazz.  Dig on the cinematic and lo-fi vibes of album opener "Rapworld" below and get the LP here from the duo.

Fr. Dionysios Tabakis

Fr. Dionysios Tabakis is a priest of the Greek Orthodox Church, serving at the Church of Panagitsa in Nafplio, the Nativity of the Theotokos.  He also wails on his electric guitar at home.  The result is a beautiful and mystic mix of psychedelia, drone, folk, devotional, and byzantine spirituality.  It kind of fucking rules, pardon my French.  Check out "Ἠλεκτρικαὶ Ὑμνωδίαι – Α΄ Ἑωθινὸν μὲ ἠλεκτρικὴν κιθάραν ἄνευ τάστων (perdesiz)" below and download the excellently titled "Paradise Metal" album here from Heat Crimes (the cassette is sold out).

Fauna

Here's some cool-as-shit new music from Swedish psych rock band Fauna.  The band's sound is grooving, danceable mix of Anatolian rock, Eastern psychedelia, and worldbeat.  Check out the fantastic "Dunans Torka" below and get the new "Taiga Trans" LP here from Glitterbeat Records.

Daily Jam - Strange Days

These days, i am well into my reevaluation of The Doors.  As a teen, i was, like a lot of other people, way way too reverential of the '60s LA band.  And then later, to counter that, i probably was too fast to completely write them off.  Hence the reevaluation.  Here's the title track from the group's sophomore album, a song i almost swapped with alternative metal band Prong's mid-'90s cover instead.  Listen to "Strange Days" below, our Daily Jam.

Curses

Over the last five years, Berlin based artist Luca Venezia, AKA Curses, has been releasing compilations of different music that shaped his life and art, dubbed "Next Wave Acid Punx."  The albums highlight all manner of electro-industrial-techno-madness.  The latest edition, "Trois," is due in June.  Check out the artist's own contribution to the series, "Crown of Ruin (Extended Mix)," below, and get all three volumes here from Eskimo Recordings.

The Haunted Youth

I wanted to catch Belgium's The Haunted Youth last month in Austin during SXSW, but it was not to be.  I had a lot less time to get out there than i usually do, and the festival's schedule was all wonky from years past.  Anyway, new album "Boys Cry Too" is out in couple of weeks.  Check out the wistful, shoegazey "Emo Song" below and pre-order the LP here from Play It Again Sam.

Sugar Horse

Here's some new music from the often uncategorizable Bristol band Sugar Horse.  The band's wild and cacophonous mix of black metal, alt-rock, noise, and prog rock can make the head spin in the best ways.  New album "Not a Sound in Heaven" is out now.  Get it here from Fat Dracula Records and listen to the doom-laden album closer "You Can't Say Dallas Doesn't Love You" below.

Daily Jam - Another Rainy Night (Without You)

Queensrÿche's "Empire" will forever transport me back to the 6th grade.  It, along with a handful of other records from that era, both good and bad, basically serve as a goddamn time machine going straight back to 11-year old me.  Here's a tack from it.  Listen to "Another Rainy Night (Without You)" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Girl, Why'd You Run Away

Here's a poppy punk song from Reggie and The Full Effect that i've always liked.  Listen to "Girl, Why'd You Run Away" below, our Daily Jam.

Forever Pavot & Melchior

About to head out to a book store opening, but before i leave, here's some weird kosmische electronic music from French artists Forever Pavot and Melchior.  Listen to "Reality (La Boum)" below and grab the "La Boum / TinTin" 7" here from Born Bad Records.

Manual

Danish artist Manual makes a chilled out mix of bedroom electronica and indie folk, kind of like a lot of the sounds we used to get in the early '00s...headphone music for afternoons in cafes or libraries.  Check out new tune "Iso" below and order the new "True Bypass" LP here from Darla Records.
