Daily Jam - Your Love

Is there anybody out there that doesn't like the song "Your Love" by The Outfield?  If there is, i probably don't want to know you.  It's basically a perfect pop song.  Let's all listen below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - I'm Only Sleeping

While i hold firm in my conviction that "A Day in the Life" is the best Beatles song, "Revolver" is probably the best Beatles album.  Here's a track from it.  Listen to "I'm Only Sleeping" below, our Daily Jam.

The Cowboys

I'm going to just go ahead and say it: Bloomington, Indiana's The Cowboys are probably the best rock n' roll band in the country.  I think we're about six albums in so far, and the band's upcoming new album "Captain Easy's Downfall" pretty much solidifies my opinion on this.  Their sound's got bits of college rock, jangle pop, power pop, glam, and just good old fashioned rock and/or roll pulsing through its aural veins.  Check out "Little Baby Birds" below and get the LP here from Feel It Records.

Haylie Davis

Gonna finish the day soon and go out to dinner with the family to celebrate my oldest son's birthday.  He is now a teenager.  Where did all the time go?  Here's some appropriately wistful throwback pop music from LA singer/songwriter Haylie Davis to listen to while i ponder the passage of time.  Pre-order the upcoming "Wandering Star" LP here from Fire Records and listen to lovely title track below.

The Creem

Ratatat's Mike Stroud and Islands' Nick Thorburn have joined forces and become The Creem.  The duo have a indie rock meets throwback '70s pop rock sound going for them that's pretty infectious.  Pre-order the "A Taste of Cherry" LP here and listen to "Taste of Cherry" below.

Daily Jam - Junk

I watched the McCartney documentary a few weeks ago, and it's made me go back and check out a lot of the artist's post-Beatles work.  One song i've always liked is the sweet and melancholy "Junk" from the first solo record.  Listen to it below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - The Crying Game

Like a lot of people my age, my cultural entry point for English pop star Dave Berry's "The Crying Game," was Neil Jordan's 1992 film of the same name, Boy George's cover for the film, and all the parody references that followed.  It wasn't until i was an adult that i went back and listened to that original version of the tune.  It's a good one.  Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Lay Your Hands on Me

Bon Jovi's "New Jersey" was one of my favorite albums when i was in grade school.  I think i was in the 4th grade.  It still rocks.  Here's the album opening "Lay Your Hands on Me," our Daily Jam.

Mod Lang

Let's end 2025 with some power pop from the appropriately named, Big Star-inspired Detroit band Mod Lang and their debut 7" release "TV Star" b/w "3+1."  Dig on the excellent A-side below and get the record here from Just Add Water Records.

Daily Jam - Real

Canadian artist and violist Lily Haydn combines elements of classical music and alt-rock to make something that kind of sounds like it would have done gangbusters at Lilith Fair.  I'm not sure if she ever played that festival, but if not, she should have.  Anyway, check out a track from her 1997 debut.  Listen to "Real" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam (Cheese Week) - We Built This City

Let's bring Cheese Week to a close with perhaps the cheesiest song ever made.  I totally get why so many people think Starship's "We Built This City" is crap.  I do.  Especially when you consider what the band had been back in the '60s and '70s.  The whole thing reeked of selling out.  But i was 6 when i heard it.  And i thought it ruled.  I don't have quite the enthusiasm for it i did back in 1st grade, but i'll let it ride if i hear on the radio.  Listen below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam (Cheese Week) - Oh Sherrie

The majority of dumb, embarrassing songs i like came out in the '80s.  Because that's when i was a kid.  Because that's before i knew any better.  Because back then we just like what we like.  So here's me just liking what i like with some corny solo pop rock from Journey's Steve Perry.  Listen to "Oh Sherrie" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Spooky

Here's a classic from Classics IV.  "Spooky" was originally an instrumental written by Mike Sharpe and Harry Middlebrooks Jr.  Classics IV's version has the distinction of being the first with lyrics, written by James Cobb and Buddy Buie.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Lines

There are currently a half dozen 12-year old boys making all kinds of noise upstairs for a birthday party sleepover.  Maybe you know this and may you don't, but 12-year old boys are...real weird.  Anyway, i'm just gonna listen to some music from The Walker Brothers while i reconsider some choices tonight.  Listen to "Lines" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam - Icare

A month ago, i took the day off from work for my birthday and went on a record store crawl around Austin, hitting up half a dozen different stores around town.  One of the records i came home with was a 7" from French psych-tinged pop rock band Labyrinthe.  Check out the very cool, organ-laden B-side "Icare" below, our Daily Jam.  Long live physical media!
