Holy Motors

Here's a new track from North Carolina based experimental duo Tacoma Park.  I hear a lot of different things on "Untied," a mix of ambient country music, Americana, new age, krautrock, and a little bit of kosmische psychedelia.  It's cool and floaty.  Check it out below and pre-order the band's upcoming "Baltimore" LP here from Centripetal Force.

Matthew Geary

The Far Sound

Jim Jarmusch & Anika

Writer/director/musician Jim Jarmusch has a new movie heading our way in December with "Father Mother Sister Brother."  For the film's soundtrack, the artist teamed with Berlin-based post punk artist Anika.  Check out the tranquil, ambient Americana vibes of "Jetlag" from the score below and pre-order the LP here from Sacred Bones.

Chat Pile & Hayden Pedigo

In musical pairings i wasn't expecting to hear today, Oklahoma City noise rock/black metal/screamo band Chat Pile have teamed up with Amarillo folk and country artist Hayden Pedigo for the upcoming new album "In the Earth Again."  New tune "Radioactive Dreams" finds the artists exercising a more atmospheric sound of eerie, foreboding doom.  It's very cool.  Check it out below and pre-order the LP here from The Flenser.

AVTT/PTTN (The Avett Brothers & Mike Patton)

Of all the collaborative music projects out there, i never in a million years would have paired indie folk country band The Avett Brothers with Mike Patton of all people.  Well, it happened, and the end product is the upcoming self-titled record from AVTT/PTTN.  First taste "Eternal Love" sounds much more in the wheelhouse of The Avett Brothers, but Patton's voice and presence make things feel a little off-kilter and strange.  I really want to hear what the rest of this thing sounds like.  Anyway, check out "Eternal Love" below and pre-order the album here from Ipecac.

Luke Schneider

Nashville-based pedal steel guitarist Luke Schneider paints sonic vistas with his particular brand of ambient Americana, like staring into the wilderness or watching the mountains meet the night sky.  New album "For Dancing in Quiet Light" is out later this month on Leaving Records.  Pre-order it here and listen to the cosmic and meditative title track below.

Daniel Bachman

Trying to catch up on a lot of work today and listening to various new music while doing so.  Here's a new one from experimental composer Daniel Bachman.  "Untitled/Dreamweapon" is the artist's interpretation of a recording originally performed by Angus MacLise and Tony Conrad in 1968.  Dig on the droney ambience, noise, and folk Americana below and download it here.

Alien Eyelid

Hailing from Houston, Texas, Alien Eyelid make a kind of cosmic Americana steeped in the sounds of alt-country and psych-folk playing to the misfits and drunks at the honkytonk at the edge of the universe.  The band's new album "Vinegar Hill" is out in September.  Pre-order it here and listen to the stellar title track below.

Joseph Allred

Boston guitarist Joseph Allred has been making music for a number of years now, releasing over 20 albums in that time, and somehow, it all feels like it was leading to the upcoming new album "Old Time Fantasias" which drops this Friday.  The album feels huge (even at just 7 tracks), incorporating elements of folk, country, blues, ragtime, pop, ambient soundscapes, and so much more to create a kind of cinematic instrumental Americana, a soundtrack to life.  Check out the wonderful and swaying "Moon Dance" below and order the new LP here from Scissor Tail Records.
