Why Bother?

Iowa band Why Bother? have a very cool synth/psych/garage rock/post-punk fusion thing going on for them, and i am here for it.  New album "Beyond Step One" dropped earlier this month, and it's a total banger with weird, surreal, spoken word pieces strewn throughout.  I don't think anything else sounds quite like it.  Grab it here from Feel It Records and listen to "Come Undone" below.

The Drin

The excellent Cincinnati band The Drin dropped a great new single back in May with the release of "The Pigs of Silver Linings," and they follow that up with the announcement of their upcoming and epic new album "I Lost My Way for Centuries."  First taste "Haven't Live It Yet" takes the band's lo-fi post punk sound and infuses it with a kind of dubby and chugging, krautrock-tinged psychedelic flair.  Really, really cool stuff.  This one just jumped to the top of my anticipated fall releases.  Dig on the track below and pre-order the LP here from Feel It Records.

The Cowboys

I'm going to just go ahead and say it: Bloomington, Indiana's The Cowboys are probably the best rock n' roll band in the country.  I think we're about six albums in so far, and the band's upcoming new album "Captain Easy's Downfall" pretty much solidifies my opinion on this.  Their sound's got bits of college rock, jangle pop, power pop, glam, and just good old fashioned rock and/or roll pulsing through its aural veins.  Check out "Little Baby Birds" below and get the LP here from Feel It Records.

Suitor

Cleveland quintet Suitor bring the catchy post punk noise with their new album "Saw You Out with the Weeds."  This one feels like one of those timeless rock albums that you could fit into pretty much any era of the last 50 years.  Check out "Factory" below and grab the LP here from Feel It Records.

Optic Sink

On the upcoming new album "Lucky Number," Memphis trio Optic Sink make a groovy and catchy mix of minimal synth pop and post punk.  "Construction" sounds effortless cool, and for some reason, makes me want to smoke a cigarette.  Check it out below and pre-order the LP here from Feel It Records.

The Drin

Cincinnati post-punk band The Drin dropped a great new track earlier this year with "Tigers Cage" along with a message to keep an eye out for a new album sometime this year.  That time is upon us now with the upcoming "Elude the Torch" LP out at the end of this month.  And there was much rejoicing.  Check out the kind of mellow, chugging title track below and pre-order the album here from Feel It Records.

Corker

I really seem to dig on everything coming out of the Cincinnati post punk scene these days.  And the band Corker just released a dark and raucous rager with new album "Falser Truths."  Check out the album opening "The Cold Air" below and get the LP here from Feel It Records.

Disintegration

Waste Man

New York by way of New Orleans punk band Waste Man dropped a new self-titled EP of weird, jagged noise last week, and i am stuck on the steady meandering of closing track "White Horse."  It plays like a kind of comedown music after waking up and not knowing where you are.  Check it out below and pay what you want for the whole EP here.

I've written in the past about how cool i think it is that Cincinnati has burgeoning post punk scene.  Everything about that sits right with me.  I just love it.  Anyway, one of the bands from said scene, The Drin, have a new record out later this month.  Check out the propulsive and noisy "Venom" below and pre-order the band's "Today My Friend You Drunk the Venom" LP here from Feel It Records.

Crime of Passing

There's a burgeoning post punk scene happening in Cincinnati right now that's making me want to give the city a visit and explore, even with the spaghetti noodles in chili thing they've got going on there.  Anyway, the 5-piece band Crime of Passing have a cold and raucous sound that feels like it comes straight from the life blood of the music we've adored for decades now.  Check out "Tender Fixation" below and pre-order the upcoming self-titled album here from Feel It Records.

Good Looking Son

Keith Harman, the lead singer of the excellent band The Cowboys, ventures out on his own with the new excellent solo project Good Looking Son.  The dude has songwriting chops for days, as evidenced by his work with The Cowboys, and that continues here.  Check out "The Neighbor Girl" below, and pre-order the upcoming "Fantasy Weekend" here from Feel It Records.

Qlowski

The summer months are bringing us new music from London band Qlowski, this time around a full-length LP called "Quale Futuro?"  The band fuses post-punk with elements of noise rock, psych, and bubblegum pop to create a dark, but sugary sound.  Check out "A Woman" below and pre-order the record here from Feel It Record if you're in North America and here from Maple Death Records for anywhere else.
