American Motors

New Age Healers

Seattle band New Age Healers have a kind of classic alternative rock vibe going for them, bits and pieces of space rock, shoegaze, neo-psychedelia, and grunge coming together in a hazy sonic stew.  Check out "Ultra" below and grab the band's new "Blowing Smoke Through the Choir" LP here.

Olympia, Washington band Waves Crashing have an old school '90s alt-rock and grunge thing going for them, the kind of sound i would have been dubbing onto mixtapes in 10th grade.  New album "In the Blur" is out now.  Get it here from the band and listen to "Feel the Glow" below.

Oklahoma City metal band Chat Pile are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands these days, their mix of black metal, emo, and grunge, along with their penchant for experimentation, just vibing with me in all the right ways.  September sees the release of new album "Who Loves the Sun."  Pre-order the LP here from The Flenser and listen to the crunchy "Deep Blue" below.

Liz Cooper

Vermont's Liz Cooper makes cool alternative rock that nods back to grunge, post punk, trip-hop, space rock, and more.  I wouldn't call it throwback rock necessarily, but she certainly wears her influences on her sleeve.  Check out the wonderful ballad "Loss of Signal" below and download the artist's new "New Day" album, featuring some positively charming cover art, here.  You can also pre-order the physical release here from the artist.

Cashier

I caught Lafayette, Louisiana's Cashier last year on a whim during SXSW, and really dug their old school alt-rock sound.  The group has a new EP out next week, just in time for their triumphant return to Austin for this year's festival.  Pre-order "The Weight" here from Julia's War Recordings and listen to crunchy title track below.

Les Arcanes

French band Les Arcanes make grungy, shoegaze-tinted alt-rock that feels just right for a Friday evening before a gaggle of 9 and 10-year old boys descend upon your house.  Or maybe that's just me and my youngest's impending sleepover.  Shudder.  Anyhoo, check out "HMK" below and snag the "D.D.P." cassette here from Stellar Frequencies.

Oklahoma hardcore punk/black metal/screamo band hybrid dropped a new 7" on Friday that i missed out on whilst working all weekend.  The A-side is a beast and the B-side is a cover of an old Nirvana song.  Check out both "Masks" and the "Sifting" cover below and download them here from Sub Pop (the vinyl is already sold out).

Main Era

Boston band Main Era somehow manage to melt together every alternative rock subgenre from the last 40 years into one on their latest release, "IV of Wands."  It's all there: grunge, shoegaze, post punk, post rock, slowcore, emo, screamo, math rock, etc., etc., etc.  I believe i just found what i'll be jamming for the rest of the day.  Check out "Double Dragon" below and snag a copy of the album on cassette or CD here from Disposable America.
