Daily Jam - Soulympics
Italian band Zu make a mix of prog, metal, jazz, and math rock. Naturally they teamed with Mike Patton for track or two. Here's a cut from the band and the man from 2009's "Carboniferous" LP. Listen to "Soulympics" below, our Daily Jam.

Angine de Poitrine
Quebec band Angine de Poitrine is making a lot of noise right now. I've been seeing their stuff pop up all over the place online, so i decided to check out the hype myself...and holy shit! The group's got an angular post punk thing going on, but with elements of math rock, psychedelia, and so much more in the mix. It's wild. Listen to "Fabienk" below and try not to wiggle. You can download the new "Vol. II" album here and pre-order an upcoming vinyl release from Levitation here.

Horse Lords
Quirky Baltimore band Horse Lords are back in June with a new album of their weird, angular, and frenetic mix of math rock, post punk, and experimental sounds. Check out new track "Brain of the Firm" below and pre-order the upcoming "Demand to Be Taken to Heaven Alive!" LP here from RVNG Intl.

Daily Jam - Too Late or Too Dead
The all too short lived St. Louis band 90 Day Men released three albums of mathy, avant garde post rock in the '00s culminating in their sound defining swan song "Panda Park." I miss them. Here's a track from that last album. Listen to "Too Late or Too Dead" below, our Daily Jam.

Main Era
Boston band Main Era somehow manage to melt together every alternative rock subgenre from the last 40 years into one on their latest release, "IV of Wands." It's all there: grunge, shoegaze, post punk, post rock, slowcore, emo, screamo, math rock, etc., etc., etc. I believe i just found what i'll be jamming for the rest of the day. Check out "Double Dragon" below and snag a copy of the album on cassette or CD here from Disposable America.

Extra Life
Here's an odd new track from New York band Extra Life. "Diagonal Power" starts off like a cinematic proclamation, horns trumpeting the arrival of royalty or diplomats, and then throws in elements of prog rock, math rock, and post punk over its 12-minute run. Check it out below and pre-order the band's upcoming new album "Secular Works, Vol. 2" here from Charlie Looker.

Black Midi
Back in the days of live concerts and such, frenetic post-punk band Black Midi were one of the bands that knocked my proverbial socks off during SXSW 2019. And they're now prepping their sophomore album "Cavalcade" for release in May. Check out the weird and wild "John L" below and pre-order the digital version here and the LP here via Rough Trade.

Black Midi - Jingle Bell Rock
UK experimental post punk band Black Midi recorded a couple of Christmas songs. Weird, i know. Anyway, it's to raise funds to help out a venue the guys play at across the pond. Check out the kind of faithful rendition of "Jingle Bell Rock" below and get the jams here.

Horse Lords
It's hard to describe experimental Baltimore band Horse Lords' sound. It's at time microtonal drone, and at others it's angular, mathy punk, along with flourishes of jazz, prog rock, and all around avant garde weirdness. New album "The Common Task" is out now on Northern Spy. Get it here and listen to the sprawling album closer "Integral Accident" below.

Daily Jam - Nailed to the Blank Spot
I remember when i was in high school, teaching myself how to play the guitar, that all the writers in the guitar magazines i would read would just rave and rave about the dudes in Chavez. The band's kind of proggy, kind of mathy, kind of proto-post rock and noisy take on alt-rock got all the aplomb from those guitar nerds, so naturally i checked it out too. They were right. Listen to the punchy "Nailed to the Blank Spot" below, our Daily Jam.

Black Midi - Talking Heads
And we've got another new single from UK band Black Midi out for our aural consumption. The appropriately titled "Talking Heads," a spastic and nervy little number feels maybe a little bit inspired by David Byrne and company, and it should be seeing a 12" release next month with the recently released "Crow's Perch" via Rough Trade. Listen below.

Daily Jam - bmbmbm
I've been a little obsessed with these guys since seeing them perform at SXSW last month, and devouring any and every little piece of music they leak out there...of which there is not much. Anyway, Black Midi's "bmbmbm" was the first single they put out last year, and it's a hypnotic mix of math rock and post punk with occasional blasts of noise. Their drummer, Morgan Simpson, is amazing, and lead singer Geordie Greep's weird affectations when he says the word "purpose" will stick in your head all day. Your Daily Jam...

Black Midi - Crow's Perch
This morning brings us a new jam from UK band, and SXSW darlings, Black Midi. "Crow's Perch" falls in line with the band's almost indescribable mix of post punk, math rock, funk, tension, and spaced out weirdness. Watch the video below and go get the single here via Rough Trade.

Black Midi
I was fortunate enough to catch Black Midi today at SXSW, a UK band with a shitload of hype behind them that proved to be completely warranted. The band does a kind of post punk/math rock thing with vocals reminiscent of The Fall's Mark E. Smith or maybe a more menacing Fred Schneider of The B-52s. Angular, noisy, chaotic, and complex changing time signatures paired with a natural aloofness means we're going to see a lot of ink on these guys over the next few months. Their online presence is minimal at best, but it seems they've signed with Rough Trade, so that may be changing in the near future. Listen to new track "Speedway" along with few remixes of it below, and certainly catch a live performance if you can.

David Boring
One of the "new to me" artists i'm very much looking forward to seeing this year at SXSW is Hong Kong's David Boring. The artist makes a messy, noisy hybrid blast of noise rock, math rock, post punk, and hardcore. It can be ear shredding, but also quite lovely. Listen to "Victims" below and get it here from the artist via Sweaty and Cramped.

FACS
I got turned on to Chicago experimental rock outfit FACS a year or so ago at the cheerleading from producer John Congleton. And Congleton knows his stuff. The band fuses elements of post rock, math rock, shoegaze, industrial, and noise to create a mess of sound that can be both jarring and hypnotic at the same time. Listen to "In Time" below and pre-order March's Congleton-produced "Lifelike" LP here from Trouble In Mind.

Daughters
Rhode Island punk band Daughters have a new album of screeching, off kilter noise and hardcore post punk melodies headed our way in October on the always interesting Ipecac Records. "You Won't Get What You Want" sounds like some moody combination of noise and math rock, a dark flow of material to put us all on edge. Listen to "Satan in the Wait" below and pre-order the record here.
